Ralph Lauren’s American Western is a luxury watch collection built around Western imagery, with engraved metal cases, tooled calfskin and both pocket-watch and wristwatch designs. In a 15 May 2023 hands-on review, Fergus Nash of Time+Tide Watches describes the collection as an artistic interpretation of cowboy and frontier style rather than a strict historical reproduction. The review details four distinct forms and reports historical Australian prices, but it does not establish current prices or availability.
What makes the collection Western?
Nash traces Ralph Lauren’s interest in the look to the Polo Western range introduced in 1978, and says the American Western watch collection was created in 2018 in connection with the company’s 50th anniversary of making clothes beyond neckties. These background details are reported by the review, rather than independently verified company history.
The design joins decorative watchmaking with frontier references. Cases in sterling silver or 18k rose gold are hand engraved by an artisan in New York and given an antiquated finish. The calfskin straps are hand-tooled in Texas and burnished in Italy; their floral patterns echo the case engraving. Nash describes the result as “rugged elegance,” a phrase the review attributes to Ralph Lauren without naming a speaker.
The cream-colored dials and Breguet hands carry the theme into the watch face. On the skeleton model, the movement is exposed and its plates and bridges receive decorative treatment. Rather than reproduce a historical Western watch, the collection turns Western motifs into a contemporary luxury design.

How the four watches differ
The review describes two 50 mm pocket watches and two 45 mm round wristwatches. The pocket-watch references were limited editions of 50 pieces. The specifications and movement attributions below are as reported in the 15 May 2023 review.

Pocket watches: two different case designs
The silver Pocket Watch uses a hunter case, whose lid flips open to reveal the dial. The rose-gold version is open-faced and displays floral engraving on its case. Both are 50 mm and share the RL98295 movement and reported 46-hour power reserve.

Round wristwatches: conventional dial or skeleton
Both round models measure 45 mm and use wire-lug styling. The standard Round pairs a cream dial and Breguet hands with the RL514 movement; the review reports a 40-hour reserve. The Round Skeleton reveals its movement and decorates the plates and bridges, with the RL1967 movement and a reported 46-hour reserve.
The round models’ 20 mm quick-release spring bars suggest a route to changing straps, but the review does not establish compatibility with any particular replacement strap. Confirm fit for the exact reference before buying an accessory.

What the 2023 review reported about price and ordering
Nash reported that the watches were made to order and advised contacting a local Ralph Lauren store. The review listed these Australian-dollar prices in May 2023:
- 45 mm rose-gold Western Round: A$63,500.
- 45 mm sterling-silver Western Round Skeleton: A$68,500.
- 50 mm rose-gold Pocket Watch: A$70,000.
