What is new in Gen 2?
Up to 3K video recording
The biggest camera upgrade is support for video capture of up to 3K Ultra HD. The Indian product listing specifies a maximum of 2203 × 2938 pixels at 30fps, with recordings described as lasting up to three minutes. Meta also highlights ultrawide HDR and improved capture quality.
That does not mean every recording, export or social-media upload will remain in 3K. A phone, editing app or social platform may downscale the file, and the selected capture mode, available storage and thermal conditions can affect the result. Hyperlapse and slow-motion modes were announced as software updates and should not automatically be treated as launch-day features.

The Indian specification should also be kept separate from broader global claims. Meta’s global announcement discusses higher frame-rate capture in some contexts, but the Indian product page specifically lists 3K at 30fps. Buyers should check the mode shown in the Meta AI app rather than assume that every resolution supports every frame rate.
Longer battery life
Meta advertises up to eight hours of typical use on a full charge, charging to 50% in 20 minutes and up to 48 additional hours from the charging case. These are “up to” figures, not a guarantee of eight hours of continuous video recording and AI use.

Actual endurance depends on recording, calls, audio volume, AI activity, wireless conditions, settings and temperature. Continuous camera use, weak connectivity and very hot or cold conditions can reduce runtime significantly.

Meta AI in Hindi
Meta says Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 supports full Hindi interaction. Users can speak to Meta AI in Hindi for questions, photography and video commands, media controls, calls, messages and other hands-free assistant actions. Meta says the Hindi rollout uses tools from Indian AI company Sarvam.
To look for the Hindi setting, open:
Meta AI app → Device Settings → Meta AI → Language and Voice → Hindi
The exact labels may change as the app is updated. If Hindi does not appear, update the Meta AI app, pair the glasses, install any available firmware update and check the language menu again. Restarting or re-pairing the glasses may help; if the option remains unavailable, account, region or staged-rollout eligibility may be involved.

“Full Hindi interaction” should not be read as a promise that every AI feature, translation mode, third-party integration or form of Hinglish recognition will work perfectly in Hindi. Hindi conversation is also different from Hindi optical-character recognition and real-time translation. Feature availability can depend on the account, region, app version and firmware.
More details about the Hindi rollout are available in Meta’s India feature announcement.
What does UPI support actually mean?
UPI is the feature most likely to be overstated in launch coverage. Meta announced a soon-to-be-available/testing UPI Lite feature rather than unrestricted UPI payments being confirmed for every Indian customer.
The proposed workflow is:
- Look at a UPI QR code.
- Say, “Hey Meta, scan and pay.”
- Use UPI Lite to complete the payment.
- Pay through a WhatsApp-linked bank account.
Meta’s October 2025 announcement described testing for payments below ₹1,000. That means buyers should distinguish between a feature being announced, being tested, rolling out and actually being enabled on their specific glasses and account.
If UPI does not appear, possible explanations include staged rollout, account eligibility, outdated glasses firmware or app software, incomplete UPI Lite or WhatsApp-linked bank setup, an unsupported QR code, poor lighting or a transaction above the testing limit. Missing UPI should not automatically be treated as a hardware defect.

Because payments involve financial information, users should not assume that a glance-based workflow removes the need for confirmation, authentication or other safeguards. Meta’s announcement describes the feature; it is not an independent guarantee of payment availability or security.
What else can Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 do?
These are camera, audio and AI glasses—not conventional augmented-reality glasses. They have no cited in-lens display for navigation arrows, visual notifications or floating apps. Their main functions include:
- Voice-controlled photos and videos
- Open-ear music and other audio
- Phone calls and messaging
- Meta AI questions and recommendations
- Visual understanding through the camera
- Live and text translation, where supported by language and region
- WhatsApp and Messenger video-calling features available across the Ray-Ban Meta platform
Several AI, calling and translation features are software capabilities that may also be available on earlier Ray-Ban Meta models. They are not all exclusive to Gen 2.

| UPI Lite | Not a central Gen 1 launch feature | Announced/testing for India |
| Styles | Wayfarer and other styles | Wayfarer, Skyler and Headliner refreshes |
Gen 1 owners who frequently record video, need longer battery life or specifically want Hindi voice interaction have the clearest reason to upgrade. Those who mainly use their glasses for music, calls and occasional photos may find that Gen 2 does not change the experience enough to justify spending from ₹39,900. Buying Gen 2 primarily for UPI is premature while availability remains rollout-dependent.

Who should buy Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2?
It makes sense if you:
- Want hands-free first-person video in ordinary-looking eyewear
- Value the highest capture resolution in this product line
- Want Hindi voice interaction with Meta AI
- Prefer open-ear audio to earbuds
- Accept carrying and charging a case
- Can spend at least ₹39,900 before premium or prescription lenses
Think twice if you:
- Need a display, AR navigation or visual notifications
- Expect guaranteed all-day heavy recording
- Need unrestricted UPI functionality immediately
- Want action-camera controls, ruggedness or long continuous recording
- Are uncomfortable with a camera and microphones on your face
- Need a guaranteed return option in India
Privacy and everyday limitations
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 includes a camera and microphones in a familiar-looking frame. A visible capture indicator is intended to signal when the glasses are recording, but users still need to respect people’s privacy, workplace rules and venue policies. Recording someone without consent can create ethical, professional or legal problems; the appropriate rules vary by situation and jurisdiction.
The glasses are best understood as a connected wearable camera and audio assistant, not a replacement for a phone, action camera or AR headset. Battery claims vary in real use, advanced camera controls are limited compared with dedicated cameras, and internet and account dependencies remain central to the experience.
Bottom line
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is a meaningful hardware refresh for Indian buyers who want better hands-free video, longer battery life and Hindi voice interaction. At ₹39,900, it is a premium wearable rather than an inexpensive camera accessory. The UPI Lite QR-payment idea is potentially useful, but it should currently be treated as an announced, testing- or rollout-dependent feature—not as unrestricted UPI support guaranteed on every device.
Before ordering, verify the exact lens price, stock, prescription compatibility, app and firmware support, and India’s current return policy on the official Ray-Ban collection page.
