What is the Resin Watch Lab SUBQ?
The SUBQ is a handmade watch from Research Watch Lab, a maker that describes its work as “no brand. no heritage. just handmade watches and unconventional composites.” That is the brand’s positioning; the SUBQ’s defining material choice is a nylon 12 framework integrated into a urethane case and strap. Research Watch Lab’s homepage presents its broader approach, while the official SUBQ product page gives the model’s construction details and specifications.

How is the case and strap constructed?
Research Watch Lab says the SUBQ uses a 3D-printed nylon 12 skeleton placed in a mold before urethane is injected. The skeleton is incorporated into the case and continues through the strap, where the maker says it adds reinforcement as well as a visible structural element.

The maker describes the process as reaction injection molding: “SUBQ’s are made using reaction injection molding.” Its product page says the reaction is injected into a soft platinum-silicone mold and has a short working window. The page also notes that gas infiltration can occur and that pieces may be rejected. These are the maker’s descriptions of its production process; no independent process audit is available in the cited material.
Research Watch Lab calls the construction a reverse-monobloc design. In the maker’s account, the front crystal is bonded to the case body, while the rear crystal is press-fit with a gasket. That arrangement is part of the SUBQ’s construction description, not an independently verified teardown.
