Ressence describes the 2024 TYPE 3 Black and White update as a change to the dial and case intended to augment readability. The two editions share the TYPE 3’s oil-filled, orbital display; the difference Ressence emphasizes is visual character: White is light and paper-like, while Black is minimal and screen-like. Those are design intentions, not evidence that one version is objectively easier to read.
What changed in the 2024 TYPE 3 update?
Ressence’s press archive lists “TYPE 3 B & W (2024)” as an update to the dial and case of the TYPE 3, with augmented readability as the aim. The archive does not describe a new movement architecture. Ressence’s press archive is the maker’s source for the stated scope of the update.
How do the Black and White editions differ?

Both descriptions come from Ressence’s TYPE 3 overview. They offer a useful way to choose between the variants: consider whether the lighter, paper-like presentation or the darker, screen-like presentation better suits your taste. The available information does not establish that either dial is easier to read in real-world conditions.
What makes the TYPE 3 display distinctive?
The TYPE 3 uses an oil-filled upper chamber and moving orbital indications rather than a conventional arrangement of fixed hands on a dial. Ressence says its patented ROCS 3 system is driven by the minute axle of a customized self-winding 2824/2 base calibre; the display module comprises 215 parts. The oil-filled chamber is central to the watch’s visual effect, while the indications rotate around the dial to show information.

For the updated Black and White models, Fratello’s 2024 launch coverage identifies the module as ROCS 3.6 and reports a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 36-hour power reserve. That update-specific description should not be confused with a claim that Ressence replaced the TYPE 3’s underlying movement architecture. Ressence’s Black product listing gives the following specifications. These are the figures on the Black listing; confirm the current product page and the exact variant before buying, rather than assuming every detail applies identically to White.

- Choose Black if you prefer its minimal, screen-like visual character.
- Compare both in person if readability is your deciding factor. The maker’s descriptions express intent, not independently measured performance.
- Check the exact listing for variant-specific specifications, price and availability before purchase. For replacement straps, verify the attachment and fit; a stated 22/22 mm width alone does not establish that every third-party strap will fit.
