The RGM Caliber 20 is a hand-wound American luxury watch with a distinctive disc-seconds display, moonphase and motor-barrel movement architecture. RGM’s product page lists the stainless-steel version at $49,500 and asks buyers to inquire about 18K rose-gold pricing. That is the price displayed by RGM on October 8, 2026—not a guaranteed quote—so confirm current price and availability directly with the company.

What makes the Caliber 20 movement distinctive?
Hand-wound, decorated and built in Pennsylvania
RGM describes Caliber 20 as an in-house, manual-wind movement with 19 jewels running at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Its listed decoration includes Côtes de Genève, perlage and anglage; RGM says the movement is finished in raw German silver or with plating. The sapphire caseback gives a view of the movement.
RGM says the movement is hand-built in its Pennsylvania workshop and that 90% of it is made in the USA. That is the company’s stated qualification, not a claim that every component is American-made. RGM introduced the caliber in 2012 as its third in-house American-made movement, marking the company’s twentieth anniversary. Its announcement connected the motor-barrel concept to high-grade American railroad watches, including the Illinois Bunn Special and Hamilton 950.

What the motor barrel does
RGM describes the motor barrel as a historical American watchmaking system. In the Caliber 20, the company says its implementation reduces wear and friction at the mainspring barrel’s bearing surfaces. This is RGM’s explanation of the architecture; the available product information does not establish an independent comparative test of the claimed reduction.
Disc seconds and moonphase
Instead of a conventional seconds hand, the Caliber 20 displays seconds on a disc. The hours and minutes remain on the main dial, alongside the moonphase. RGM says the moonphase can be quick-set by turning the winding crown backwards.

RGM calls it a “Precise Moonphase” and states that, if the watch is kept running, it would take 120 years for the display to accumulate one day of error. Treat that as a manufacturer claim: the available information does not include an independent moonphase-accuracy test.
How large is it, and how might it wear?
The case measures 42.5 mm by 38.5 mm, is 9.7 mm thick and spans 58 mm lug-to-lug. The unusual two-number case measurement is presented as RGM lists it; the company does not further explain the measurement convention on the product page. The 58 mm lug-to-lug figure is especially useful to check against your wrist and the dimensions of watches you already find comfortable.

The lugs are 22 mm wide, so a generic 22 mm strap may be a possible accessory, but verify the strap’s attachment style and actual fit before buying. RGM lists 5 ATM water resistance. That figure alone is not sufficient guidance to recommend swimming; ask RGM about appropriate water exposure and care.
Price, versions and what to verify before ordering
RGM’s product page displayed the stainless-steel Caliber 20 at $49,500 on October 8, 2026. For the 18K rose-gold version, the company directs customers to contact it for pricing. These are manufacturer-displayed details, not a binding quote or confirmation of stock; contact RGM to confirm the current price, lead time, case material and availability.

For historical context only, RGM’s January 21, 2013 announcement listed the stainless-steel model at $19,500 and also directed buyers to inquire about gold pricing. That old listing is not a current price and should not be compared with today’s figure as if the offers were contemporaneous.
RGM’s current page presents multiple dial variants, including a skeleton dial, and describes a hand-cut solid-silver guilloché dial. The listing does not establish that every pictured or described configuration is currently orderable. Confirm the specific dial and finishing choices with RGM. Details such as blued-steel Keystone hands, alligator straps and a stainless-steel buckle appear in the 2013 model description, but that historical description does not confirm current standard equipment.

Who should consider the RGM Caliber 20?
This is a highly specialized proposition: a buyer is paying for RGM’s Pennsylvania-built, hand-wound movement, its motor-barrel architecture, the disc-seconds display and moonphase, as well as traditional finishing and a choice of steel or gold. It makes most sense for someone who values those particular mechanical and design details and wants a substantial, individually distinctive American-made watch—not someone choosing mainly by water resistance or a conventional seconds hand.
