Richard Mille’s Formula 1 connection is best understood through its documented partnership with McLaren, a 2017 joint watchmaking project, and separate relationships with drivers and racing teams. Those links give the “perfect match” idea a clear basis in shared engineering and performance priorities—but it is an interpretation, not an official Formula 1 designation.
Why Richard Mille is associated with Formula 1
The clearest connection is Richard Mille’s partnership with the McLaren F1 Team. Richard Mille describes it as a 10-year partnership and says the two organizations share an interest in modern technology, advanced design and precision engineering. The brand’s page does not state a start year alongside that term, so it should not be treated as a dated anniversary claim. Richard Mille’s McLaren partnership page

Richard Mille also frames the relationship through materials and engineering: it draws a comparison between McLaren’s 1981 carbon-fibre monocoque and its own later carbon nanofibre baseplate material. That is the brand’s account of a shared technical outlook, not evidence that one technology transferred directly to the other.

The most tangible expression of the McLaren relationship is the RM 50-03, a joint creation that Richard Mille says was released in 2017. The project involved Richard Mille, McLaren F1 Team and the University of Manchester, bringing graphene research into a watchmaking collaboration. Richard Mille calls the result “the lightest mechanical chronograph in the world”; that superlative is the brand’s claim, rather than an independently verified ranking in the cited material. #1 Best Overall
- Authentic Formula 1 Styling – Realistic race-inspired design and proportions
- Authentic Race Car and Driver's Helmet Details
- Collector-Scale Model – 1:24 scale ideal for shelves, desks, and displays. Includes Acrylic Box with Decorative Sleeve
- Authentic Race Car and Driver's Helmet Details for #4 Lando Norris
- Free-Rolling Wheels – Smooth-rolling wheels for display or light play
The model matters to the partnership because it makes the relationship more than a logo association: the collaboration produced a named watch and a specific materials-focused story. It does not, by itself, establish that the watch was used as an instrument in Formula 1 competition.
Richard Mille’s other links to F1 drivers and racing
Not every Richard Mille motorsport relationship is a team partnership, and not every team relationship concerns Formula 1 itself. The distinctions matter when describing the brand’s footprint.

Charles Leclerc: a driver relationship
Richard Mille says it has supported Charles Leclerc for more than 10 years and that he wears a prototype RM 67-02. The brand’s biography notes that Leclerc moved to Ferrari in 2019 and finished runner-up in the 2022 championship. These are details from Richard Mille’s own profile, not an independent account of the support arrangement. Richard Mille’s Charles Leclerc profile

Ferrari: a multi-series partnership
Richard Mille describes a multi-year partnership with Ferrari spanning Formula 1, World Endurance Championship (WEC) racing, GT, Ferrari Challenge and Ferrari Driver Academy activities. The brand associates the partnership with models including the RM 43-01 and RM UP-01 Ferrari. This is broader than a Formula 1-only relationship. Richard Mille’s Ferrari partnership page

Alain Prost: a collaboration with a former champion
Richard Mille says its collaboration with Alain Prost dates to 2017. Its account discusses the RM 70-01 Tourbillon, designed with the French champion and inspired by cycling. That makes Prost a driver-linked collaborator, rather than evidence of a current F1 team sponsorship. Richard Mille’s Alain Prost profile
ART Grand Prix: support in driver development
Richard Mille says it has supported ART Grand Prix since 2009. ART competes in junior single-seater categories, and the brand names Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Esteban Ocon and Sébastien Buemi among drivers who worked with the team. This is a driver-development connection, not a sponsorship of an F1 constructor. Richard Mille’s ART Grand Prix page

Richard Mille is not Formula 1’s Official Timekeeper
Formula 1 announced on January 6, 2025, that TAG Heuer would return as the championship’s Official Timekeeper from the 2025 season, within a 10-year LVMH partnership. That is a series-wide role. Richard Mille’s documented connections here are with McLaren, individual drivers, Ferrari and ART Grand Prix; they should not be described as the championship’s official timekeeping appointment. So, is it a perfect match?
As an editorial judgment, “perfect match” works if it means that Richard Mille’s stated interests in engineering, materials and performance align naturally with the demands and image of elite motorsport. The McLaren partnership and RM 50-03 give that idea concrete examples, while the driver and team relationships show a wider, varied presence around racing. “Perfect,” however, is not a measurable fact—and the relationships should not be collapsed into a single claim that Richard Mille represents Formula 1 as a whole.
