Its RMAC4 calibre combines a rattrapante chronograph with a date, rapid-winding pusher and function selector. Richard Mille specifies an approximately 60-hour power reserve, but says actual running time depends on chronograph use.
What is the Richard Mille RM 65-01?
Richard Mille’s official history dates the RM 65-01 to 2019. The current model page identifies it as an automatic split-seconds chronograph powered by the RMAC4 calibre. The brand describes the watch as motorsport-inspired and says its development took about five years. It also calls the calibre its most complicated automatic calibre; these are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent rankings.
A split-seconds, or rattrapante, chronograph allows the wearer to time two events that start together but finish at different moments. One chronograph hand can be stopped to record an intermediate time while the other continues, then the stopped hand catches up. The RMAC4 adds dedicated elapsed-time counters: a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock.
What does the RMAC4 movement do?
The skeletonised automatic movement brings together timekeeping, calendar and chronograph functions. Richard Mille lists hours, minutes, seconds at 6 o’clock, a date, the split-seconds chronograph, a function selector, rapid winding and a variable-geometry rotor.

Function selector: winding, date and hand-setting
Press the pusher in the centre of the crown to select among winding, date adjustment and hand-setting. An indicator at 4 o’clock displays the selected mode as W, D or H. The selector changes the crown’s function rather than requiring a separate control for each setting.
Rapid winding when the watch has stopped
The pusher at 8 o’clock rapidly rearms the barrel if the watch has stopped. It is a winding aid, distinct from the chronograph pushers and from the crown’s W mode.

Rotor adapts to activity
The variable-geometry rotor has a three-position weight. Richard Mille says changing the weight’s inertia lets the winding system adapt to the wearer’s activity. The brand also states that the balance can measure to one tenth of a second; that is a manufacturer precision claim, not an independently verified test result.

These are specifications on Richard Mille’s official RM 65-01 model page. The stated reserve is approximate, not a guaranteed duration: the manufacturer specifically notes that chronograph use affects actual results.

How the McLaren W1 edition differs
The RM 65-01 McLaren W1 is a later special edition, not the original watch’s introduction year. Richard Mille’s history lists the W1 under 2024. The edition page specifies a limited run of 500 pieces, a Carbon TPT case, a grade 5 titanium bezel topped with Carbon TPT, grade 5 titanium pusher protectors and grade 5 titanium spline screws. It also states water resistance to 50 metres.
Those material, edition-size and water-resistance details apply to the McLaren W1 edition; they should not be assumed for every RM 65-01 variant. The W1 page describes its price as “On demand,” rather than publishing a fixed retail figure. It does not establish a current price or resale value for other versions.
