Robert Downey Jr.’s watch collection is best read as a set of stories and screen associations, not a verified inventory. The 2016 GQ walkthrough offers a lively snapshot; a more useful buying clue came in 2019, when Downey said he regularly wore a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso off-screen. What watches has Robert Downey Jr. discussed?
GQ’s May 10, 2016 video follows Downey as he handles watches and recounts stories about them. He identifies a Jaeger-LeCoultre only as “a Jaeger” and says he wore it in Iron Man 2. He also discusses Rolex watches, identifies an Omega uncertainly—“I’m gonna say this is an Omega”—and shows a Patek Philippe. Watch publications have supplied more specific identifications, but those should be attributed rather than treated as confirmed reference details. Hodinkee’s May 2016 recap identifies, among other pieces, a Bell & Ross described as a gift from Ben Stiller, a Baume & Mercier associated with Downey’s grandfather, a green Rolex Submariner, an Omega Speedmaster, a Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT, and a Patek Philippe Nautilus. Time+Tide’s contemporaneous 2016 opinion piece also calls the Jaeger a AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT and questions the identification or authenticity of some watches, including the apparent Breitling and Omega. What watch does Robert Downey Jr. wear off-screen?
In a 2019 interview with the Foundation Haute Horlogerie, Downey said, “I actually wear a Reverso on a regular basis, off-screen.” That is the clearest direct evidence in these interviews for a watch he wears regularly away from filming, making the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso the strongest grounded suggestion for readers drawn to his personal style. What was he wearing in the 2019 interview?
Downey said the watch on his wrist was a De Bethune DB28 Tourbillon. He praised its titanium lightness and manual winding, describing it as a watch that “doesn’t get any lighter.” That is a direct identification by Downey in the interview, rather than a model name inferred from the 2016 video.

Which watches did he call favorites or gifts?
In the same FHH interview, Downey recalled a Patek Philippe Nautilus Moonphase that his wife had given him and said a green Rolex Submariner was the watch he loved most. He also said an Urwerk had been auctioned for a good cause. These recollections add personal context, but they do not establish a complete current collection or the present whereabouts of each watch.
What watch did Robert Downey Jr. wear in Iron Man 2?
In GQ’s 2016 video, Downey points to a Jaeger-LeCoultre and says he wore it in Iron Man 2, but he does not name its model there. Time+Tide later identified the watch as an AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT. Treat that as the publication’s identification, not a reference confirmed by Downey in the GQ transcript.

Which watch is the best suggestion?
Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso: the personal-wear lead
For someone seeking a watch connected to Downey’s own regular off-screen wear, the Reverso is the clearest choice: he said so directly in 2019. That makes it a more defensible recommendation than choosing a model solely from a screen appearance or an uncertain 2016 identification. The interview does not identify his exact Reverso, so it cannot establish which version to buy.
De Bethune DB28 Tourbillon: the distinctive interview watch
The DB28 Tourbillon is the specific watch Downey said he was wearing in 2019, and his comments point to its light titanium construction and manual winding. It is a useful direction if those features appeal to you; the interview offers no buying guidance or current price information.

Downey’s 2019 description makes the green Submariner a personal favorite, while GQ’s 2016 video includes his memorable “green money Rolex” line. The interviews do not settle the exact Submariner reference, so confirm the reference and condition independently before considering any particular watch.

What the collection story can—and cannot—tell you
- It is a dated snapshot. GQ’s collection walkthrough was released in 2016; it is not a current inventory.
- Attribution matters. Downey’s own comments, a publication’s model identification, and a watch’s verified authenticity are different kinds of evidence.
