What is the Excalibur Double Tourbillon Cobalt?
RDDBEX1109 is Roger Dubuis’s open-worked Excalibur with two flying tourbillons and a cobalt-based case material. The current Roger Dubuis product page specifies a 45 mm case made from cobalt CarTech Micro-Melt BioDur CCM, sapphire crystal, an open caseback and water resistance of 10 bar (100 m).
The watch has a blue CVD-coated double-surface flange and a blue calf-leather strap fitted with the brand’s Quick Release System. The titanium triple-folding buckle is also described as quick-release interchangeable.
How the double tourbillon works
Roger Dubuis describes the manually wound movement as a skeleton double flying tourbillon linked by a differential. A differential connects the two regulating mechanisms; the brand says its first Double Tourbillon, introduced in 2005, “ingeniously linked two tourbillons with a regulating differential.” This is the manufacturer’s account of the design’s history.

The product page lists 319 components, 32 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour and a 72-hour power reserve. It also states that the calibre has Poinçon de Genève certification. The page uses both “RD108” and “RD108SQ” for the movement in different places, so the reference naming is not fully consistent in the manufacturer’s published material.
Materials in the tourbillon cages
According to Roger Dubuis, the upper flying-tourbillon cage is made of non-magnetic cobalt chrome, while the lower cage is titanium, which the brand also describes as non-magnetic and twice lighter than steel. The manufacturer characterizes cobalt chrome as highly scratch- and corrosion-resistant and non-magnetic. These are the brand’s material claims, not independently reported test results.

These are figures from the current manufacturer product page. A 14.66 mm case thickness appears in a separate 2024 report, but it is not included in the manufacturer specification excerpt cited here.
