The design and wear comments below are attributed to published reviewers; they are not claims of personal handling or testing.
What the Cellini Moonphase 50535 is
Reference 50535 belongs to Rolex’s classical Cellini line rather than its sport-watch families. Its polished 18 ct Everose gold case, white dial and tobacco-colour leather strap give it a formal character; a folding Crownclasp is listed in Rolex’s brochure. The moonphase and perimeter date hand add complications without disrupting the restrained, traditional layout.
Time+Tide’s 2017 hands-on review described the watch as elegant and classically styled, and praised its proportions. Those are the reviewer’s judgments, not objective measures of comfort or fit.
How the moonphase and date display work
Moonphase at 6 o’clock
Rolex lists a moonphase display at 6 o’clock. Monochrome’s 2017 launch review describes a full disc that depicts both full and new moon, with the moon’s age indicated by a gold triangular marker. The review identifies a blue enamel disc, gold-tone stars and new-moon detail, and a moon element made from meteorite. It also reports that the display is corrected with a dedicated tool through a recessed pusher at 8 o’clock. These construction details are attributed to Monochrome’s description rather than independent examination here.

Date by central hand
The date is indicated by a centre hand, not a conventional numeral window. Rolex’s technical sheet lists central hour, minute and seconds hands alongside the date display and moonphase. That combination makes the date part of the dial’s perimeter reading rather than a separate aperture.

Rolex does not provide case thickness or lug-to-lug length in the cited technical sheet. The 1916 Company’s 2018 video review description publishes measurements of 13.4 mm thick and 46.4 mm lug-to-lug, alongside the 39 mm diameter. Treat those as that reviewer’s measurements, not dimensions confirmed by Rolex in the 2022 sheet. Dimensions alone cannot determine how the watch will fit an individual wrist.
What published reviews say about its presence on the wrist
Time+Tide’s 2017 review characterizes the 50535 as elegant and classical, with favorable comments about its proportions. The 1916 Company’s 2018 review description identifies the Everose gold case, white dial and leather strap and supplies the measurements above. These are review-era descriptions and impressions; they do not establish universal comfort, current condition, or how a particular example wears.

Is the 50535 discontinued, and would an authorized dealer still carry it?
Secondary watch-market sources report that Rolex discontinued reference 50535 in 2023: WatchGuys gives that year, and WatchCharts labels the model discontinued. The Rolex technical sheet consulted is dated April 2022 and does not confirm a discontinuation date or current inventory. As a result, no general claim about present authorized-dealer stock is established. Anyone seeking one should ask a Rolex authorized dealer directly about current availability; a pre-owned example may require a different search.

A model-level description cannot establish the authenticity, condition or value of an individual listing. Assess the specific watch and seller rather than relying on a market estimate or a single asking price.
- Authenticity and reference: Verify the watch and its precise reference/configuration with a qualified source; do not treat photographs or a seller’s description as conclusive.
- Condition: Inspect the case, bezel, crystal, dial, hands, moonphase display, strap and clasp. Ask for clear, current images and an in-person assessment where practical.
- Provenance and completeness: Ask what documentation, packaging and ownership history accompany the watch, and confirm that the details are consistent.
- Service history: Request dated service records and clarify what work was performed. A stated specification is not evidence that a particular watch currently meets it.
- Seller terms: Check the seller’s reputation, return window, warranty or guarantee terms, payment protections and what happens if authenticity or condition is disputed.
- Price comparison: Compare examples with similar condition, completeness, service documentation and configuration. WatchCharts provides a changing market estimate, not a definitive value for a specific watch.
How to compare the 50535 with another dress watch
Compare like with like: case material and dimensions, dial and moonphase implementation, movement functions and reserve, strap and clasp, and water resistance. For pre-owned listings, add condition, provenance, service history, completeness and asking price. The last set of factors is listing-specific; model specifications alone cannot tell you whether two examples are equivalent.
