Rolex introduced the Datejust 41 in 2016, then added steel versions at Baselworld 2017. The distinction matters: reference 126300 is the all-Oystersteel model with a smooth bezel; reference 126334 pairs an Oystersteel case and bracelet with a fluted white-gold bezel. Current US prices and specifications below are for the specific Rolex configurations reviewed in 2026, not the watches’ 2017 launch prices.
What “Datejust 41 in steel” meant at Baselworld 2017
The Datejust 41 debuted in 2016, initially in two-tone. The 2017 news was the arrival of steel configurations, not the first appearance of the 41 mm Datejust. Fratello’s 2017 launch report described the new models as steel and white gold, reflecting the range’s combination of Oystersteel and, on one reference, a precious-metal bezel: Fratello’s Baselworld 2017 report.
That wording can be confusing if “in steel” is taken to mean that every component is steel. The 126300 is all Oystersteel and has a smooth bezel. The 126334 has an Oystersteel case and bracelet, but its fluted bezel is white gold.
126300 vs. 126334: the important differences
| Reference | Case and bracelet | Bezel | Current US Rolex page price reviewed in 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 126300 | Oystersteel case and bracelet | Smooth Oystersteel | $8,950 for the displayed blue-dial Oyster configuration (Rolex 126300) |
| 126334 | Oystersteel case and bracelet | Fluted white gold | $11,650 for the displayed black-dial Oyster configuration (Rolex 126334) |
These are prices shown for particular configurations on Rolex’s US model pages when reviewed in 2026; they are not universal prices for every dial or bracelet variant, and they may change. The difference between these two displayed prices should not be treated as a like-for-like bezel premium because the pages show specific configurations.

What the 126300 offers today
Rolex’s current US page for the 126300 lists a 41 mm Oyster case made from Oystersteel, a smooth bezel, and a Twinlock screw-down crown. Its scratch-resistant sapphire crystal has a Cyclops lens over the date. Rolex specifies water resistance to 100 m (330 ft), self-winding Calibre 3235, and an approximately 70-hour power reserve. The stated precision is −2/+2 seconds per day after casing. See the current 126300 specifications.
The listed Oyster bracelet closes with an Oysterclasp and includes Rolex’s Easylink comfort extension, which allows approximately 5 mm of additional bracelet length. Rolex describes Oystersteel as belonging to the 904L steel family; that is the manufacturer’s material classification, not evidence by itself that it is superior to other steels.

How the Datejust 41 fits the Datejust line
The Datejust lineage began in 1945. Monochrome describes the original reference 4467 as an automatic, waterproof chronometer wristwatch with a date window. The Datejust 41 carried that line forward in a larger case size. In its design analysis, Monochrome noted that the 41 mm model had slimmer proportions than the Datejust II, whose bulkier appearance had drawn criticism from some collectors. That is a design assessment, not a universal preference.
Buying or servicing a Datejust
For a purchase or service, Rolex says: “Only official Rolex jewelers are allowed to sell and maintain any Rolex watch.” Use Rolex’s official US retailer locator to find an authorized retailer. A listing or seller outside that channel should not be assumed to be authorized.
