Rolex’s 2023 Day-Date 36 launch material names green aventurine, carnelian and turquoise as decorative-stone dial options. It pairs green aventurine with 18 ct Everose gold, carnelian with 18 ct yellow gold, and turquoise with 18 ct white gold. Rolex explains that each stone’s crystallized effects, matrices and veins make every watch face unique, with the stone’s distinctive traits becoming visible after it is crafted. Rolex’s 2023 launch material describes the faces as “a unique work of art.”
That individuality matters when comparing examples: two dials described by the same stone name should not be assumed to have identical color, pattern or veining. The official descriptions explain the source of the variation; they do not guarantee how a particular dial will look. For a specific watch, inspect the actual dial and confirm its configuration rather than relying on a generic product image.

Rolex describes green aventurine as a finely crystallized stone. Its brochure for reference M128235-0069 specifies 18 ct gold hour markers set with 32 diamonds, plus diamond-set Roman numerals VI and IX. Rolex’s turquoise brochure describes gold hour markers set with 32 diamonds and diamond-set Roman numerals VI and IX. Its 2023 launch material pairs turquoise with 18 ct white gold, but the brochure description alone does not establish the metal, bezel and reference for every turquoise-dial example. Those marker details distinguish the documented decorative-stone configurations, but they do not by themselves identify a watch’s entire specification. Reference, case metal, bezel and bracelet must be checked as a set; the stone name alone is not enough to establish them.

How the Day-Date fits into the collection
Rolex dates the Day-Date’s introduction to 1956. It was the first calendar wristwatch, according to the brand, to show the day of the week spelled out in full in a window at 12 o’clock alongside the date at 3 o’clock. The collection page says Day-Date 36 and Day-Date 40 models use calibre 3255. Decorative stone is part of a longer history in the collection: Rolex says it began introducing selected natural-stone dials in the 1970s, including turquoise. What to verify when evaluating a particular watch
A named stone dial is only one part of the identification. Before purchase, ask for evidence tying the exact reference to the dial, metal and other visible specifications, and examine the actual dial for its individual pattern.
