What the 2021 “continuous rise” claim actually described
In a March 5, 2021 article, Brice Goulard of Monochrome Watches described a 162% premium over retail for the steel Daytona, based on the market observations in that article at the time. He wrote that the watch was facing a “completely insane” premium. That was a dated characterization of listed prices, not a record of completed sales or a current valuation.
Asking prices show what sellers hope to receive; they do not establish what buyers paid. The 2021 figure is useful historical context for the scale of the premium being discussed then, but it should not be plotted as a confirmed transaction price or carried forward as today’s premium.
What the available 2026 estimates say
WatchCharts estimated the 116500’s pre-owned market price at $28,367 on September 29, 2026. The same page cites a $14,800 retail price as of February 2023. These figures are a platform estimate and a dated retail reference, respectively—not proof that a specific watch will sell for either amount.

A separate WatchCharts euro page, dated October 6, 2026, estimated the model at €25,054. Its dial-specific estimates were €25,548 for the white dial and €22,086 for the black dial. These are estimates in euros from a different page and date; they should not be combined with the dollar figures as if they were a single, currency-adjusted series.
WatchCharts’ figures are market estimates, not guaranteed sale proceeds. The sources available do not establish a complete official, model-specific record of completed 116500LN sales, so there is no basis here for claiming an uninterrupted rise from launch through 2026.

Why broader Rolex and Daytona trends do not settle this model’s history
WatchCharts’ Daytona index tracks 30 models and weights them by transaction value. On October 5, 2026, it was up 5.5% over one year and down 11.9% over five years. That mixed movement is useful context for the wider Daytona market, but the index does not isolate the 116500LN.
Chrono24’s analysis of completed transactions from 2018 through the second quarter of 2026 says Rolex’s pandemic-era premium had unwound. Its brand price index was about 55% above 2019 and roughly 7% higher year over year. Those are Rolex-wide figures, not a model-specific sales history for the 116500LN. They cannot confirm whether an individual Daytona rose or fell over the same period.

In WatchCharts’ October 6, 2026 estimates, the white-dial variation was €25,548 and the black-dial variation was €22,086. That is a difference in one platform’s snapshot, not proof of a universal or permanent premium for the white dial. A real comparison should match the date, currency, condition, completeness, and market region, as well as the dial.

What affects a fair price for a particular 116500LN?
The Daytona 116500LN is a discontinued stainless-steel Cosmograph Daytona with a 40 mm case and automatic caliber 4130. ChronoCheck lists its production years as 2016–2023 and refers to the white dial as “Panda” and the black dial as “Reverse Panda.” A reference-level estimate cannot account for every difference between individual watches.
- Condition: Scratches, bezel wear, and evidence of polishing can affect a watch’s appeal and value.
- Completeness: Box, warranty card, papers, and service records distinguish a complete set from a watch-only example.
- Authenticity and documentation: Verify that reference and serial details match the papers, and arrange an independent authenticity check.
- Market and transaction type: A dealer or marketplace asking price is not the same as a completed sale, and a quoted estimate is not the same as a seller’s net proceeds.

How to compare prices without mistaking estimates for guarantees
- Match the exact reference and dial. Do not compare a different Daytona model or assume the white and black variations share the same estimate.
- Match the date and currency. Keep the September 2026 dollar estimate separate from the October 2026 euro estimates unless you independently convert them using an appropriate exchange rate and date.
- Match condition and completeness. Compare like with like: unworn with unworn, pre-owned with pre-owned, and complete sets with similar sets.
