Choose the Daytona for timing events
The Daytona’s chronograph lets you measure elapsed time, while its tachymetric scale can be used with the chronograph to read average speed. Rolex says the Cosmograph Daytona launched in 1963 and is associated with motor sport. Its additional chronograph function makes it the more purpose-specific choice if you expect to time events rather than simply read the time and date.

Choose the Submariner Date for elapsed-time tracking and a date
The Submariner Date has a date display and a unidirectional bezel graduated for 60 minutes. That gives you a direct way to track elapsed time, such as a dive interval, without operating a chronograph. Rolex describes the collection as having a 60-minute graduated bezel and an Oyster case rated to 300 metres (1,000 feet); the reference compared here is the Submariner Date 126610LN.

What the size and bracelet differences mean
The Daytona case is 40 mm across; the Submariner Date is 41 mm. That one-millimetre difference alone cannot predict which watch will fit or feel better on your wrist. Try both if possible, paying attention to how the case and bracelet sit and whether the controls are comfortable to use.

How to make the final choice
- Pick the Daytona if the chronograph and tachymetric scale are the functions you will use and you prefer its 40 mm case.
- Pick the Submariner Date if you want a date, a 60-minute elapsed-time bezel and the higher stated water-resistance rating, and prefer its 41 mm case.
