Kermit 16610LV

Rolex Kermit 16610LV vs. Starbucks 126610LV: What’s Different?

The Kermit 16610LV and Starbucks 126610LV share a black dial and green bezel but come from different Submariner generations. Here are the differences that matter.

The Kermit 16610LV is the earlier 40 mm-generation Submariner Date with a black dial and green aluminum bezel insert; the Starbucks 126610LV is the current 41 mm-generation version, with a green ceramic bezel and Rolex caliber 3235. Both pair a black dial with a green bezel and are specified for 300 m water resistance. Choose the Kermit for its pre-ceramic character; choose the Starbucks for its contemporary materials, longer stated power reserve and more adjustable clasp.

Which watch is the Kermit, and which is the Starbucks?

These are collector nicknames, not formal Rolex model names. The reference numbers make the distinction clear: 16610LV is the Kermit, introduced in 2003 as the first black-dial, green-bezel Submariner, with reported production through 2010. Reference 126610LV is the modern black-dial, green-bezel model Rolex currently lists in the United States. The green-dial 116610LV, often called the Hulk, is a separate intervening model—not another name for either watch. Fratello’s 2024 comparison covers the generations and their distinguishing details; Rolex’s current US 126610LV product page gives the modern model’s specifications.

How do the specifications compare?

Feature Kermit 16610LV Starbucks 126610LV
Generation and period Introduced in 2003; Fratello reports production through 2010. Introduced in 2020, returning to the black-dial, green-bezel combination after the green-dial Hulk era.
Case diameter 40 mm, per Fratello’s 2024 specification summary. 41 mm, per Rolex’s current US product page.
Bezel insert Green aluminum; its appearance can change with age and wear, but condition varies by watch. Green ceramic Cerachrom, with a 60-minute diver’s scale and luminous zero marker, per Rolex.
Movement Caliber 3135; Fratello reports a 48-hour power reserve and quickset date. Caliber 3235; Rolex states a 70-hour power reserve.
Bracelet and clasp Older Oyster bracelet construction. Fratello describes solid end links, hollow center links and an older stamped clasp; wear and condition vary by specimen. Oyster bracelet with Oysterlock clasp and Glidelock fine adjustment without tools, per Rolex.
Luminous display Super-LumiNova, according to Fratello. Rolex describes luminescent hour markers; Monochrome identifies the modern display as blue-emitting Chromalight.
Water resistance 300 m, per Fratello’s specification summary. 300 m, with a Triplock screw-down crown, per Rolex.

What differences will you notice on the wrist?

The bezel material changes the watch’s character

The clearest visible materials difference is the insert. The Kermit’s aluminum bezel belongs to the earlier, pre-ceramic generation; age and use may alter an individual insert’s color or finish. That is a possibility, not a guarantee of patina: the condition of a used watch depends on its history and any replacement parts. The Starbucks uses Rolex’s green Cerachrom ceramic insert, which Rolex describes as scratch-resistant. Rolex also specifies its 60-minute scale and luminous marker at zero. The contrast is less about one being universally preferable than whether you want an older, potentially time-marked surface or the modern ceramic treatment.

The nominal millimeter difference is not the whole fit story

The Kermit belongs to the 40 mm case generation, while Rolex lists the Starbucks at 41 mm. That one-millimeter difference does not, by itself, establish how large either watch will feel on a particular wrist. Comparative reporting points to the wider bracelet and changed proportions as factors in the modern watch’s wrist presence. If fit is decisive, try the exact reference on wrist rather than treating the diameter as a complete fit measurement.

The bracelet is a practical generation gap

The Starbucks has a clear adjustment advantage for changing wrist size through the day or over a wetsuit: Rolex specifies Glidelock fine adjustment without tools, alongside an Oysterlock clasp. The older Kermit bracelet has a different construction, and a pre-owned example’s condition matters. Fratello describes solid end links with hollow center links and an older stamped clasp; that is a description of the reference’s older design, not a promise that every surviving bracelet is in identical condition.

What changed in the movements?

The Kermit uses caliber 3135; Fratello reports a 48-hour power reserve and quickset date. The Starbucks uses caliber 3235, for which Rolex states a 70-hour reserve. On those published figures, the newer watch offers 22 additional hours before it needs to be wound or worn again. These are stated specifications, not results of independent testing here. The extra reserve is useful if you rotate watches and leave this one off the wrist for a couple of days.

Which one makes more sense for you?

  • Pick the Kermit 16610LV if you want the earlier black-dial, green-bezel Submariner and value its aluminum insert, 40 mm-generation design and caliber 3135. As a discontinued reference, each example’s condition, authenticity and service history are specific to that watch.
  • Pick the Starbucks 126610LV if you prefer Rolex’s current specifications: ceramic Cerachrom, caliber 3235 with a stated 70-hour reserve, and tool-free Glidelock adjustment. Its modern design also keeps the familiar black-dial, green-bezel combination.
  • Try both if wrist fit is the deciding factor. The nominal case diameters are useful specifications, not a substitute for how the case and bracelet feel together on your wrist.

Buying context and price

Rolex’s US product page listed the 126610LV at $11,900 USD when accessed on 2026-10-03. That is a listed US retail price on that page, not a statement of current stock, a resale value or a prediction about future prices. Rolex states on the same page: “Only official Rolex jewelers are allowed to sell and maintain a Rolex watch.” The 16610LV is discontinued, so evaluating a specific example requires attention to its authenticity, condition and service history; the evidence here does not establish comparable secondary-market prices or investment performance.

How should you decide?

Start with the generation you actually want. The Kermit is the earlier, aluminum-bezel watch; the Starbucks is the modern ceramic-bezel model with the longer stated reserve and more adjustable clasp. Then compare the exact watches available to you: condition and fit can outweigh the specification-sheet differences, especially for a discontinued reference. Neither is an objectively better choice for every buyer.
