What is the Rolex Sea-Dweller 116600?
Reference 116600 is the Sea-Dweller 4000 produced between its introduction at Baselworld in 2014 and discontinuation in 2017. Phillips describes it as the final Sea-Dweller without a Cyclops lens and the last 40 mm Sea-Dweller. Its production span was short: Phillips calls it the shortest production run among Sea-Dwellers, but the cited material does not establish a production quantity.
Historically, the model marked the Sea-Dweller’s return in 2014 after a five-year absence. Hodinkee describes the update as a return to a 40 mm case, with a Cerachrom bezel replacing the earlier aluminum bezel, plus Glidelock adjustment and blue Chromalight lume.

These details are documented in Phillips’ catalog entry for the reference. The source set does not establish a 116600 water-resistance figure, so the 1,220 m / 4,000 ft rating sometimes encountered in Sea-Dweller comparisons should not be assigned to this model on the basis of the later 126600 brochure.

What makes the 116600 distinctive?
A 40 mm Sea-Dweller with a clean date
The 116600 is notable for keeping the date window unmagnified. Rolex added a Cyclops lens to the 43 mm 126600 in 2017, making the 116600 the last Sea-Dweller reference without one. That difference is immediately visible and may matter to buyers who prefer the date display without a protruding magnifier.
Cerachrom bezel and bracelet adjustment
The black Cerachrom bezel has minute markings around its perimeter. Phillips identifies the full-minute-marked bezel as an update over earlier Sea-Dweller bezels. Glidelock adjustment on the Oyster bracelet allows its length to be extended; it is a practical feature to consider when comparing fit and adjustment, not a substitute for trying the watch on.

Chromalight and calibre 3135
Hodinkee notes blue Chromalight lume on the 116600. The automatic calibre 3135, with 31 jewels, is the movement documented for this reference by Phillips. Do not confuse it with calibre 3235, which belongs to the subsequent 126600.

The 126600 brochure also gives that successor a water resistance of 1,220 m / 4,000 ft. That is a 126600 specification, not evidence for the 116600. The comparison is most useful as a way to identify which design and movement generation you are considering; case diameter alone does not determine how either watch will sit on a particular wrist.

Buying a discontinued 116600
Because production ended in 2017, prospective buyers will encounter resale examples rather than current-production stock. The sources reviewed do not establish a representative current market price, so a single auction record should not be treated as a present-day valuation or a prediction of future returns.
Before buying, request clear, current photographs and supporting records. A cataloged Phillips example included a guarantee, manual, literature, tags, box and packaging, but that describes that individual lot only; it does not mean every 116600 comes with the same accessories.
