For a like-for-like practical comparison, this guide focuses on the Rolex Yacht-Master 40, ref. 126622, and the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M, ref. 210.30.42.20.06.001. The Omega is the more dive-oriented of these two examples, with a 300 m rating and a unidirectional bezel; the Rolex pairs a 100 m rating with a bidirectional bezel designed for timing intervals such as sailing.

These are specifications for the two named references, not a verdict about every Yacht-Master or Seamaster. The Seamaster family also includes lines such as Aqua Terra, Seamaster 300 and Planet Ocean; their specifications are not interchangeable with the Diver 300M.
Which is better for diving?
For the two references compared here, the Seamaster Diver 300M is the clearer choice for dive-oriented use on published specifications. Omega lists 300 m / 1,000 ft water resistance and a unidirectional bezel intended to track elapsed dive time. A unidirectional bezel is designed so an accidental movement cannot make the indicated elapsed time shorter.
The Yacht-Master 40 is rated to 100 m / 330 ft by Rolex, and its bidirectional 60-minute bezel is intended for timing intervals, including sailing time between buoys. That makes its bezel operation different from the Omega’s dive-timing control. Rolex describes the Yacht-Master as designed specifically for sailors; it should not be confused with a dedicated dive-watch specification simply because it has a rotating bezel.

How the designs and dimensions differ
Size and wrist fit
The Rolex is 40 mm across; the cited Omega is 42 mm. Omega’s Japan listing also gives a 49.9 mm lug-to-lug measurement and 13.6 mm thickness. The cited Rolex product page does not provide a comparable thickness figure, so a precise dimensional comparison on that point is not available. Diameter alone cannot predict how either watch will sit or feel: try the exact reference on your wrist if fit is a deciding factor.

- Stainless steel case 43mm diameter x 12mm thick; Black dial; Luminous hands and hour markers
- Japanese quartz movement, PC32 Caliber; Assembled in Japan; SR626SW battery included; Watch weight: 170 grams
- Stainless steel band, 185mm L x 22mm W; Band is adjustable by adding/removing links; Fold over safety clasp
- Flame Fusion crystal; Screw down crown; Uni-directional stainless steel bezel with black top bezel ring; 100 meter water resistant: Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports. Not suitable for diving
Materials and bezel style
The 126622 combines an Oystersteel case and bracelet with a 950 platinum bidirectional bezel. Rolex calls this combination Rolesium. The Omega listing specifies a stainless-steel case and bracelet and a blue ceramic bezel with a white enamel diving scale. The Yacht-Master family has other material and bracelet configurations—including Oystersteel, RLX titanium, gold and Oysterflex options—depending on the reference; those should not be assumed to describe the 126622.
Everyday functions
Both watches have a date display. The Rolex adds a Cyclops lens over the date and a Chromalight display. The Omega listing includes a helium escape valve and a transparent sapphire caseback. These differences reflect distinct design choices; the presence of a feature alone does not establish which watch will suit a particular wearer better.

- Stainless steel case 40mm diameter x 14.1mm thick; Exhibition case back; Black dial; Luminous hands.Band Length: 205mm

Movements, power reserve and certification
Rolex equips the 126622 with calibre 3235 and gives it an approximately 70-hour power reserve. The Omega reference uses calibre 8800 with an approximately 55-hour reserve, according to Omega Japan. Those figures describe the manufacturers’ stated specifications for these watches.
Rolex identifies the Yacht-Master as a Superlative Chronometer. For the 126622, the product page states a finished-watch precision tolerance of −2/+2 seconds per day. Rolex says its movements receive official chronometer certification before casing and that the finished watch is then tested to this tighter standard. Rolex’s newsroom says the Superlative Chronometer certification expanded to seven criteria in 2026, covering magnetism, reliability and sustainability in addition to precision, waterproofness, self-winding and autonomy.
Rank #4
- Stainless Steel case with Black Resin Band
- Black Dial with date window at 3 O'clock
- Luminous markers and hour hands; sweep second hand
- Anti-reverse bezel
- Water-resistant to 200 M (660 feet)
Omega identifies the cited Diver 300M as a Master Chronometer and describes METAS as the certifying body for precision, anti-magnetism and performance. Omega’s product listing also states resistance to magnetic fields of 1.5 tesla (15,000 gauss) or more. That magnetic-resistance figure is Omega’s specification, not an independent comparative test. The two brands describe different certification frameworks; the available specifications do not support declaring one categorically superior.

Rolex’s US product page displayed $13,200 USD for Yacht-Master 40 ref. 126622 when observed in 2026. That is a page-listed US price, not proof of a final sale price, discount, or pricing in another country. The cited Omega page is a Japan listing, and no comparable US price for the specified Diver 300M was established. Comparing those figures as if they were matched regional prices would be misleading.

Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Choose the cited Seamaster Diver 300M if a published 300 m rating, unidirectional dive bezel, and dive-watch functions are your priorities.
- Choose the cited Yacht-Master 40 if you prefer a 40 mm case, a bidirectional timing bezel, and the combination of platinum and Oystersteel in Rolex’s Rolesium design.
- Try both on if wrist fit, thickness or visual presence matters. Their diameters differ by 2 mm, and the available specifications do not provide matching thickness measurements.
- Compare local prices only for exact references and on the same regional basis; the cited Rolex and Omega price evidence is not matched.
