The Romain Gauthier Logical One is a manually wound watch built around a visible constant-force mechanism: a ruby-link chain connects the mainspring barrel to a snail cam. Its Natural Titanium Final Edition measures 43 mm across, runs for a stated 46 hours and is no longer available to order from the manufacturer. The prices most often cited for the model are from 2018, not current quotes.
What the Logical One does—and what makes it distinctive
Logical One displays hours, minutes, small seconds and a power-reserve indicator. Its defining feature is not an extra complication but the way it delivers energy from the mainspring to the escapement. Romain Gauthier describes the design as a contemporary reinterpretation of the chain-and-fusée constant-force mechanism.
The watch was unveiled in 2013. The manufacturer says it received the 2013 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève award for Men’s Complication. In 2021, the brand presented two Final Edition series—20 watches in white gold and 20 in titanium—and described them as the end of production for this calibre.
How the constant-force mechanism works
Ruby-link chain and snail cam
A chain links the mainspring barrel to a snail cam, with both arranged in the same plane. The manufacturer says this layout transmits force in a straight line. In a traditional fusée-and-chain arrangement, changing leverage from the cone-shaped fusée compensates for the mainspring’s declining torque as it unwinds. Monochrome Watches’ 2018 explanation says Logical One uses a slowly rotating snail cam in place of the traditional fusée. It also describes sapphire plates around the barrel intended to reduce uneven friction. The mechanism is displayed on the dial side.

Romain Gauthier has explained the design premise this way: “When I designed Logical One, I worked from the premise that for a ‘precision’ watch to be truly precise, it should have constant energy.” That is the maker’s stated rationale for the mechanism, not an independently measured accuracy or rate-stability result.
Two controls, with different jobs
Winding is done with a pusher integrated into the case band at 9 o’clock, rather than by turning a conventional winding crown. The time-setting crown is at 2 o’clock. The manufacturer says the pusher transmits force to the barrel on the same plane, in contrast to the stem arrangement of a conventional crown.

Logical One price: what the published figures mean
Monochrome Watches reported on 22 February 2018 that prices started at CHF 108,000 for a titanium edition with a Clous de Paris dial. Its reviewed platinum version was priced at CHF 145,000. These are historical figures reported in 2018, not current retail prices.

The official site marks the Natural Titanium Final Edition reference MON00921 as no longer available to order. The manufacturer’s account of the two 2021 Final Edition runs also says they marked the end of production for the calibre. That does not establish whether an individual retailer or secondary-market seller currently has a Logical One; availability and asking prices would need to be checked against a dated listing for the specific reference.

How to assess the watch as a buyer
- Start with the reference. The dimensions and finish above are for titanium MON00921, not a universal specification for the collection.
- Inspect the mechanism as both function and display. The chain and cam are the watch’s technical argument and a prominent dial-side feature; the description explains the design, but does not provide independent accuracy measurements.
- Check fit against the full case dimensions. At 43 mm in diameter, 53 mm lug-to-lug and 14.2 mm thick, the listed titanium version has substantial dimensions. Lug-to-lug and thickness may matter as much as diameter when judging how it will sit on a wrist.
- Treat water resistance as a modest rating. The stated 30 m / 3 atm rating is a specification, not a claim that the watch is suitable for swimming or diving.
- Verify price and condition for the exact watch. The 2018 CHF figures cannot establish a present-day value. Confirm reference, edition, condition, included accessories and the date of any seller’s asking price.
