Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is not a new 2026 launch. Samsung announced it on July 10, 2024, opened U.S. preorders the same day, and began general sales on July 24, 2024. As of August 18, 2026, Samsung’s U.S. store is still selling the original Galaxy Ring for $399.99; there is no verified launch of a second-generation model.
The useful question now is whether Samsung’s first smart ring remains a sensible buy for Galaxy owners—or whether its age, ecosystem restrictions and reports of battery degradation make waiting the wiser choice.

What actually launched?
Samsung’s original Galaxy Ring is a titanium, screenless wearable designed to collect passive health and wellness data through Samsung Health. Its U.S. announcement and preorder date was July 10, 2024, followed by general availability on July 24, 2024. Samsung’s launch announcement did not describe a 2026 product.
Some recent headlines may be referring to expanded availability, Samsung Health updates, new sizes or renewed attention around a possible successor. None of those is the same as launching Galaxy Ring 2.

What Samsung sells in 2026
Samsung’s U.S. listing for the original Galaxy Ring shows a price of $399.99. The ring includes a portable charging case and is sold in several finishes and sizes, subject to market and stock availability. Samsung markets the core Samsung Health experience without a required health-data subscription.
That does not mean the ring is independent of Samsung’s ecosystem. Setup and interpretation rely on Samsung Health and a Samsung account, while some features require a compatible Galaxy phone. Optional Samsung services, financing or membership products are separate from the ring’s health functionality.
What the Galaxy Ring tracks
- Sleep: sleep duration and related wellness insights.
- Heart rate: monitoring and selected alerts.
- Activity: automatic activity and exercise detection.
- Cycle tracking: fertility and cycle-related estimates when configured.
- Energy Score: a Samsung Health wellness assessment based on collected data.
- Galaxy ecosystem data: information can be combined with compatible Galaxy Watch data.
These are consumer wellness features, not medical diagnoses. Samsung notes that cycle-tracking results can be affected by illness, medication, travel, routine changes, environmental conditions and how consistently the ring is worn. Treat trends as information to discuss with a qualified professional, not as a substitute for clinical care.

Samsung has continued adding sleep-related capabilities and expanding Galaxy Ring availability through Samsung Health updates. Software improvements, however, do not turn the original hardware into a new generation.

Compatibility: the important catch
The best Galaxy Ring experience is built around a recent Samsung Galaxy phone. “Works with Android” should not be read as “every Android phone gets every feature.” Exact compatibility can depend on the phone model, Android version, Samsung Health version, One UI version and whether a Galaxy Watch is paired.
For example, Samsung says double-pinch controls for taking photos or dismissing alarms require a compatible Galaxy phone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Snore detection requires the phone to be within approximately two feet and Samsung Health version 6.22 or later. Check Samsung’s current compatibility information before ordering.
The Galaxy Ring is a poor fit for:
- iPhone owners;
- people seeking a platform-neutral wearable;
- buyers unwilling to maintain Samsung Health and a Samsung account;
- anyone expecting notifications, GPS, cellular connectivity or a display.
A Galaxy Watch remains the better standalone wearable for live workout information, GPS, notifications and on-device controls. The ring is best understood as a comfortable overnight and passive-tracking accessory—not a smartwatch replacement.
Specifications and sizing
| Specification | Original Galaxy Ring |
|---|---|
| Construction | Titanium |
| Width | 7.0 mm |
| Depth | 2.6 mm |
| Weight | Approximately 2.3–3.0 g in the original size range |
| Water and dust ratings | 10 ATM and IP68 |
| Battery claim | Up to seven days, depending on size and use |
| Launch sizing | Sizes 5–13 |
Samsung corporate material published later lists sizes 5–15 and weight up to approximately 3.3 g, so the range may reflect later availability, regional differences or product-reporting changes. Confirm the size range for your market, finish and specific listing rather than assuming every configuration is available everywhere. Samsung’s U.S. product page is the relevant starting point.

Do not rely on an ordinary jewelry-ring measurement alone. Use Samsung’s sizing process and measure the finger on which you will actually wear the ring. Wear the sample long enough to account for swelling during sleep, heat and exercise. A ring that passes over the knuckle may still be too tight overnight, while a loose ring can affect sensor alignment.
Review the return terms before opening or wearing the product. Samsung’s U.S. store indicates that some returns may incur a 5% restocking fee, making sizing especially important.

Samsung’s official claim is up to seven days, not a guaranteed runtime. Battery life varies with ring size, tracking settings, exercise, phone and watch interaction, firmware, temperature and battery age. Samsung corporate material lists capacities of roughly 18 mAh to 23.5 mAh depending on size.
By 2026, some owners have reported rings that decline to roughly a day or less—or fail abruptly—after extended use. These reports on Reddit’s Galaxy Ring community are anecdotal and do not establish a population-wide defect rate. They are nevertheless a legitimate buying risk because the product is now roughly two years old.

If you buy one, keep proof of purchase and note the runtime early in ownership. Keep the firmware and Samsung Health app current, and contact Samsung support while the device is within the applicable local warranty. Do not assume that a replacement automatically receives a new warranty period; check the policy for your country and seller.
The 10 ATM and IP68 ratings are substantial protection claims, but they do not mean the ring is immune to every chemical, temperature, impact or water scenario. Follow Samsung’s current care instructions for swimming, hot tubs, solvents, soaps and high-impact activities.
Is the Galaxy Ring still worth buying?
Buy it if you:
- already own a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone;
- want discreet sleep and wellness tracking without a required ring subscription;
- dislike wearing a watch overnight;
- use Samsung Health or already own a Galaxy Watch;
- are comfortable reviewing data in an app rather than on a display;
- can obtain the right size with acceptable return and warranty protection.
Wait or avoid it if you:
- use an iPhone;
- want GPS, live workout metrics, notifications or a display;
- want the newest smart-ring hardware in 2026;
- are especially concerned about battery replacement or degradation;
- need clinically reliable measurements;
- dislike ecosystem lock-in.
The ring is most compelling for an existing Galaxy user who wants a lighter overnight companion to a Galaxy Watch. Buying both can provide broader coverage, but it also increases the total cost and adds another device to charge, size and manage.

What about Galaxy Ring 2?
Secondary reports from TechRadar and Tom’s Guide say Samsung is working on a future successor, with possible improvements to sensors and battery life. Those reports do not establish a release date, price, final specifications or confirmed iPhone support.
Until Samsung publishes those details, Galaxy Ring 2 should be treated as a possibility—not a product that has launched, or a reason to assume the original will be discounted or replaced on a particular timetable.
