Held in Brooklyn on July 9, 2025, it introduced Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic. U.S. availability began July 25, 2025. This retrospective explains what Samsung actually announced, how the foldables differ and what changed in the Watch8 lineup.
Samsung’s July 2025 Galaxy Unpacked event is over—not an upcoming preview. The company hosted Galaxy Unpacked in Brooklyn, New York, on July 9, 2025, under the “Unfold Ultra” theme. It announced the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, lower-priced Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, Galaxy Watch8 and Galaxy Watch8 Classic. U.S. availability began July 25, 2025, although prices, promotions, inventory and software capabilities can change after launch.
For watch buyers, Galaxy Watch8 and Watch8 Classic were the event’s most relevant announcements. The foldables provided the larger headline: Fold7 became thinner, lighter and more camera-focused, while Flip7 expanded the useful area of its outside display. Here is what Samsung actually launched and how the products fit together.
What Samsung announced at Galaxy Unpacked July 2025
| Product | What it is | U.S. launch price | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Z Fold7 | Large book-style foldable with an 8-inch internal display | From $1,999.99 | July 25, 2025 |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 | Compact flip foldable with a 4.1-inch FlexWindow | From $1,099.99 | July 25, 2025 |
| Galaxy Z Flip7 FE | Lower-priced entry to Samsung’s flip-foldable range | From $899.99 | July 25, 2025 |
| Galaxy Watch8 | Standard smartwatch in 40mm and 44mm sizes | From $349.99 Bluetooth; $399.99 LTE | July 25, 2025 |
| Galaxy Watch8 Classic | Classic-styled smartwatch in a 46mm size | Not specified in the cited U.S. launch information | July 25, 2025 |
The launch prices above are historical U.S. prices from Samsung’s July 2025 announcement, not guaranteed August 2026 prices. Trade-in values, storage versions, carrier conditions, retailer pricing and promotional availability should be checked before buying.

Galaxy Watch8: the most important wearable upgrade
Galaxy Watch8 was offered in 40mm and 44mm sizes, giving buyers a choice between a smaller case and a larger display and battery platform. Samsung extended its cushion-inspired design across the Watch lineup and introduced a Dynamic Lug system intended to improve stability and comfort on the wrist.

Samsung’s cited launch material describes the Watch8 as 11% thinner than the previous design and lists display brightness of up to 3,000 nits. It also includes dual-frequency GPS, a 3nm processor and an updated BioActive Sensor. These are manufacturer specifications and claims; the available research does not include independent battery, GPS, brightness or sensor testing.
Galaxy Watch8 health and fitness features
The software additions are more significant than a simple case redesign:
- Running Coach: assesses a runner’s level from 1 to 10, then creates a tailored training plan with real-time guidance.
- Bedtime Guidance: uses circadian-rhythm information to suggest a target bedtime.
- Vascular Load: monitors stress placed on the vascular system during sleep.
- Antioxidant Index: estimates carotenoid levels through the BioActive Sensor in approximately five seconds.
- Energy Score: combines physical and mental-energy measurements into a daily snapshot.
- Stress tools: include High Stress Alert, Mindfulness and Stress Tracker features.
These features should be treated as wellness and fitness tools, not medical instruments. Samsung’s own material says the functions are intended for education, general wellness or fitness and should not replace professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. In particular, a Watch8 estimate about vascular load, sleep or antioxidant levels should not be presented as proof of a medical condition—or the absence of one.
Software: Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch and Gemini
Galaxy Watch8 launched with Wear OS 6 and Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch interface. Google Gemini was preloaded as an assistant. Samsung described Gemini as useful for natural-language interactions and connected tasks, but it requires an internet connection and Google Account login. Samsung’s cited information also cautions that answer accuracy is not guaranteed.
That makes Watch8 most interesting for buyers who want Samsung’s newer health and coaching features alongside Google’s smartwatch platform. It does not, however, turn a smartwatch into a clinically validated health-monitoring device.
Galaxy Watch8 Classic: the traditional-watch option
Galaxy Watch8 Classic brings the more traditional styling back into the launch lineup. Samsung listed it in a 46mm size and positioned it for people who prefer a classic watch appearance over the standard Watch8’s sportier design.

Galaxy Z Fold7 is the book-style model: it opens into a large screen for reading, editing, multitasking and other tablet-like tasks. Samsung positioned it as the thinnest and lightest Galaxy Z Fold yet. It weighs 215 grams, measures 8.9mm when folded and 4.2mm when unfolded.
The cover display is now 6.5 inches with a wider 21:9 aspect ratio, making the closed phone less narrow than earlier Fold designs. The unfolded Dynamic AMOLED 2X display measures 8 inches—11% larger than the prior generation, according to Samsung. Both displays support adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, and Samsung lists peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits with Vision Booster.
Galaxy Z Fold7 camera and hardware specifications
- 200MP wide rear camera—the first 200MP camera in the Galaxy Z Fold series.
- 12MP ultrawide camera.
- 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
- Up to 30x Space Zoom.
- Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor.
- 4,400mAh typical battery capacity.
- IP48-rated water resistance.
- 12GB of RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage, plus a listed 16GB/1TB configuration.
- Android 16 with One UI 8.
- Seven years of operating-system and security updates listed in Samsung’s specification material.
The Fold7’s appeal is therefore the combination of a lighter body, a wider usable cover screen, a larger internal workspace and substantially more prominent camera hardware. Samsung also presented multimodal Galaxy AI and One UI 8 as important parts of the experience. Those are Samsung’s product claims, not independent evidence that Fold7 is faster, more intelligent or a better camera than every competing phone.
A major Fold7 limitation: no cited S Pen support
Samsung’s cited Galaxy Z Fold7 specification sheet does not list S Pen support. That matters if you are upgrading from an older Fold specifically for handwriting, drawing or stylus-based productivity. Fold7 should not be described as an S Pen productivity device unless a later, authoritative specification changes that position.

Galaxy Z Flip7: the pocketable foldable
Galaxy Z Flip7 serves a different buyer. Instead of opening into a mini tablet, it folds a conventional phone in half so it can take up less room in a pocket or bag.
Its defining feature is the 4.1-inch FlexWindow, an edge-to-edge Super AMOLED cover display that Samsung described as the largest cover screen in the Galaxy Z Flip line at launch. The internal display measures 6.9 inches and uses Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology. Samsung lists up to 2,600 nits of peak brightness and up to 120Hz refresh rate for both the main display and FlexWindow.
The larger outside display is intended to make the phone more useful while closed. Samsung highlighted access to messages and schedules, cover-screen selfies, multimodal Galaxy AI and voice interaction without opening the device. These are announced capabilities and design goals; the research does not establish independent superiority in usability, camera performance or AI accuracy.

Galaxy Z Flip7 FE: the cheaper entry point
Galaxy Z Flip7 FE was introduced as a lower-priced way to buy into Samsung’s foldable-phone range. Samsung’s U.S. launch announcement listed a starting price of $899.99 and black and white color options.
Do not treat Flip7 FE as simply the standard Flip7 with a discount. The standard Flip7’s central announcement feature is its 4.1-inch edge-to-edge FlexWindow, and the available research does not establish that Flip7 FE has the same display specification. Compare the individual model pages rather than assuming that every Flip7 feature carries over to the FE.

Fold7 vs Flip7 vs Flip7 FE: which should you buy?
| If you care most about… | Best fit | Why | Main compromise |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multitasking and a large workspace | Galaxy Z Fold7 | 8-inch internal display, wider cover screen and flagship hardware | Very high price and larger folded footprint |
| Pocketability and closed-phone use | Galaxy Z Flip7 | Compact flip design and 4.1-inch FlexWindow | Less screen area for tablet-like work |
| Lowest entry price for a Samsung flip foldable | Galaxy Z Flip7 FE | Lower $899.99 U.S. launch price | Do not assume standard Flip7 display and hardware features |
| Handwriting with a stylus | Verify alternatives carefully | Fold7’s cited specification sheet does not list S Pen support | Older Fold or another device may be a better fit |
If you want the biggest possible mobile canvas, choose Fold7 only if its price and size are acceptable. If you want a phone that disappears into a pocket and can handle basic interactions while closed, Flip7 is the more coherent choice. Flip7 FE is the price-led option, but its lower price should prompt a feature-by-feature comparison rather than an assumption that it is identical to Flip7.

Choose the standard Galaxy Watch8 if you want the newest mainstream Samsung watch design, running coaching, sleep-oriented features, dual-frequency GPS and Wear OS 6 with Gemini. Select the 40mm version if a smaller case is more comfortable; consider 44mm if you prefer a larger display and the fit is suitable.
Consider Watch8 Classic if physical-watch styling is more important than the lightest or sportiest design. The available launch information confirms a 46mm model but does not confirm its U.S. launch price in the cited passage.
For either watch, decide whether you need Bluetooth or LTE. Samsung’s U.S. launch prices began at $349.99 for Bluetooth Watch8 and $399.99 for LTE Watch8. LTE can support cellular connectivity away from a phone, but carrier activation and ongoing service terms are separate purchasing considerations.

Samsung documentation identifies a model-specific Galaxy Z Fold7 Carbon Shield Case. A Fold7 should be paired with a case designed for that exact hinge, camera layout and generation rather than a generic “foldable phone case.” Check whether the listing is an official Samsung accessory or a third-party compatible product, and confirm fit before buying.
The U.S. Flip7 purchase page states that a charger is not included. Buyers should check the package contents and select a compatible USB-C charger if they do not already have one. Exact charger requirements, cable inclusion, case availability and current prices should be verified against the live listing.
Availability and what has changed since launch
Samsung said the five products became available in the United States on July 25, 2025. Its broader global announcement described a rollout beginning on the same date across 49 markets, later expanding to more than 110 markets. Regional availability, colors, storage combinations, cellular versions and promotions may differ.

The stable facts are the event date, announced models and launch specifications. The volatile facts are current price, stock, trade-in value, carrier offers, retailer seller, warranty, supported AI functions and software requirements. Check those details immediately before publication or purchase rather than carrying forward a July 2025 promotion as though it were still active.
Bottom line
Galaxy Unpacked July 2025 delivered two distinct foldable-phone strategies and two smartwatch styles. Galaxy Z Fold7 is the expensive productivity flagship, with a thinner 215-gram body, 8-inch internal display and 200MP main camera, but no S Pen support in Samsung’s cited specification sheet. Galaxy Z Flip7 is the compact choice, built around its 4.1-inch FlexWindow; Flip7 FE lowers the entry price but should not be assumed to share every standard Flip7 feature.
Galaxy Watch8 is the event’s most relevant choice for smartwatch buyers who want Samsung’s latest design, coaching and wellness software. Watch8 Classic is the alternative for traditional styling. In every case, treat Samsung’s health, battery, AI and performance statements as manufacturer claims until independent testing is available, and confirm current commercial details before spending.
