Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch FE on June 13, 2024. Its original U.S. price was $199.99 for the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model and $249.99 for LTE; Bluetooth sales began June 24, 2024. Those are launch-era prices, not guaranteed current prices: Samsung’s March 2025 U.S. MSRP sheet marked the listed FE variants EOL, so check current stock, seller, condition, and warranty before buying.
What Samsung announced—and what the $199 price meant
The Galaxy Watch FE was Samsung’s first smartwatch to use its FE branding, positioning a lower-priced model as a way into the company’s Galaxy watch and health ecosystem. In the U.S., the $199.99 MSRP applied to the Bluetooth/Wi-Fi version; LTE was listed at $249.99. Samsung said Bluetooth availability would begin June 24, 2024, with LTE to follow through Samsung, Samsung Experience Stores, carriers, and major retailers. Samsung’s June 13, 2024 announcement documents the announcement and launch plan. The March 2025 U.S. MSRP file marks listed FE variants EOL; that does not establish whether any particular retailer still has stock.
So the headline’s “now official” describes a June 2024 announcement, not a current launch. Treat $199.99 as the documented U.S. Bluetooth model MSRP, not the price you should expect to pay today.

What it can do for health and fitness
Samsung lists optical heart-rate monitoring, electrical heart sensing, bioelectrical impedance analysis for body composition, sleep tracking and coaching, workout tracking, GPS-based activity tracking, running analysis, and personalized heart-rate zones. Samsung also describes ECG-related and blood-pressure functions, but having the required sensors does not guarantee that every function is available to every owner.
- ECG and blood-pressure availability depends on country, regulatory approval, compatible phone, app, and software. Check Samsung’s local availability and device requirements before buying if these functions matter to you.
- Samsung states that certain health functions require a phone running Android 10 or later with at least 2GB of RAM, and Samsung Health version 6.22 or later. These stricter requirements apply to those functions, not necessarily to basic watch pairing.
- These are health-monitoring and wellness features, not a substitute for professional medical advice or diagnosis.
Samsung’s feature descriptions and qualifications appear in its U.S. announcement. Independent coverage reports more than 100 workout modes, but the available Samsung announcement does not specify that count.

How close is it to a Galaxy Watch4?
The FE is best understood as a refreshed entry-level watch built around Watch4-era hardware, rather than a new-generation flagship. Both the FE and Galaxy Watch4 use the Exynos W920 and have 16GB of storage. The FE adds sapphire crystal display protection and arrived with Wear OS and One UI 5 Watch. That makes “rebranded Watch4” too simple: the shared platform is significant, but the products are not identical.
| Feature | Galaxy Watch FE | Galaxy Watch4 reference |
|---|---|---|
| Case sizes | 40mm only | 40mm and 44mm |
| Processor | Exynos W920 | Exynos W920 |
| Display protection | Sapphire crystal | Gorilla Glass DX+ on the referenced model |
| Storage | 16GB | 16GB |
| Software at launch | Wear OS / One UI 5 Watch | Older launch software; later updates may be available |
The FE specifications come from Samsung; the Watch4 comparison and glass detail are reported by Ceppek. The older core platform is the main reason to compare the FE carefully with newer watches rather than assuming the FE is equivalent to a current flagship.

Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE?
| Model | What it offers | What to factor in |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth/Wi-Fi | Lower launch price; typically relies on a nearby phone for calls, messages, and connected services | Best suited to people who usually carry their phone |
| LTE | Can connect to a mobile network for calls and messages away from the phone | Requires carrier activation and a compatible cellular plan; service adds recurring cost and cellular use can affect battery life |
For U.S. activation, Samsung identifies AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon as carrier options for compatible Samsung LTE watches. Set it up in the Galaxy Wearable app under Watch settings or Home tab → Mobile plans. Samsung says the phone must have a SIM inserted; AT&T or Verizon activation may also require a carrier-provided QR code. See Samsung’s LTE activation instructions. LTE does not make every watch function phone-independent, and the launch price excludes the service plan.
Phone compatibility: Android required
The U.S. launch announcement gives Android 6.0 or later with more than 1.5GB of memory as the broad compatibility threshold. Samsung’s current guidance says the Galaxy Watch FE depends on Google Play services and is not supported on iOS, so iPhone owners should not buy it expecting to pair it with their phone. Samsung’s compatibility guidance also covers Galaxy Watch generations and supported phones.

It can make sense when the price is clearly below newer Galaxy Watch options and you specifically want a compact Samsung smartwatch for notifications, GPS, workouts, sleep tracking, and Galaxy ecosystem features. Independent testing and review coverage has described it as reliable but based on older hardware, and criticized its battery life; battery performance varies with display settings, GPS, LTE, notifications, and health tracking, so do not assume a fixed runtime. See Tech Advisor’s review.
It is a better fit if
- You use an Android phone, preferably a Samsung Galaxy phone, and want Samsung’s watch ecosystem at a discount.
- You want a smaller 40mm watch and do not need a larger case option.
- Your priorities are everyday smartwatch functions and fitness tracking, rather than the newest processor or hardware generation.
Look elsewhere if
- You use an iPhone, want a larger watch, or need the newest sensors and platform.
- You are a heavy user who prioritizes battery life or faster performance.
- You would be paying close to the price of a newer Galaxy Watch; compare actual current prices rather than the old MSRP alone.
- You need LTE but do not want an ongoing cellular plan, or rely on a health feature without verifying that it works with your phone and in your country.
Check a listing before you pay
- Confirm whether it is Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE, and whether it is a U.S. model or an import.
- Check whether it is new, refurbished, or open-box; identify the seller, return policy, and warranty coverage.
- Verify the exact phone requirements and local availability of any health features you care about.
- Make sure the 40mm case suits you, and account for a wall adapter if you need one.
- For LTE, confirm carrier compatibility and the full recurring service cost before choosing it over Bluetooth.
Unusually low marketplace listings are not necessarily equivalent to authorized new stock; seller identity and condition matter. Tech Advisor’s deal coverage also cautions about third-party seller risks. Samsung’s watches page is here, but current availability and prices should be checked directly rather than inferred from the original announcement.
