Samsung announced the Ultra2 on July 22, 2026. The older model is most compelling if you want its outdoor-focused hardware and find it at a meaningful discount; at its listed US price of $649.99, the newer generation and the slimmer Galaxy Watch8 deserve a close look.
What the Galaxy Watch Ultra is—and who it suits
Samsung’s 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra is the 47 mm member of the Galaxy Watch7/Ultra generation, built for people who want a substantial watch with outdoor-fitness features. Samsung lists a 47.4 × 47.1 × 12.1 mm case, 60.5 g weight, Exynos W1000 five-core 3 nm platform, Wear OS 5, Super AMOLED display, dual-frequency GPS and 10 ATM water resistance in its 2025 interim report.
That hardware makes it a plausible choice for workouts and outdoor use, particularly for someone already invested in Samsung’s health and fitness ecosystem who also wants LTE and GPS on the wrist. The specifications alone do not establish that it can replace dedicated navigation or dive equipment, or that its sensors are more accurate than competitors’.
Size is part of the decision
At 60.5 g and roughly 12 mm thick, this is not a discreet or especially light watch. The case may feel cumbersome on smaller wrists and can be less comfortable for sleep tracking than a slimmer watch. Try it on if possible, especially if you plan to wear it overnight.

Battery life: read the mode behind the number
Samsung specifies a 590 mAh battery and claims up to 100 hours in power-saving mode or 48 hours in exercise power-saving mode. Those are manufacturer figures tied to specific power-saving settings, not independent normal-use test results. Samsung does not establish an everyday runtime figure here; actual battery life will vary with use and settings.
How much does the Galaxy Watch Ultra cost?
Samsung’s March 2026 US price sheet lists the Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE at an MSRP of $649.99, and Samsung’s US product page also displays $649.99 for the 2025 47 mm LTE model. Samsung notes that prices can change without notice. Check the current price, stock, seller and exact regional model before buying.

Discounts may change the value calculation, but a published deal is not a standing price. TechRadar reported a $549.99 Amazon price when its 2026 buying article was published; that figure does not confirm today’s price or availability. Its UK offer is a separate regional price and should not be compared directly with US pricing.
2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra vs. Ultra2
The 2025 watch is not Samsung’s latest Ultra. Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026. Samsung says the Ultra2 has an 800 mAh battery—35% greater capacity than the previous Ultra—and is 12% thinner than its predecessor. These are Samsung’s stated specifications and comparisons, not independent battery-life or comfort test results. See Samsung’s Ultra2 announcement for its successor details.

The 2025 version should not be mistaken for a full redesign of the original 2024 Ultra. Android Central describes the 2025 refresh as nearly unchanged from the 2024 edition apart from twice the storage and a blue finish. If you already own either earlier Ultra, compare the Ultra2’s actual changes and price before upgrading; the refresh alone may not justify replacing a working watch.

TechRadar’s recommendation of Watch8 for many general-wellness buyers and Android Central’s characterization of the 2025 Ultra refresh are editorial judgments, not laboratory comparisons. For a practical decision, weigh how much you value the rugged case, LTE and outdoor hardware against comfort, live price and whether you want the current Ultra generation.

Verdict
The 2025 Galaxy Watch Ultra makes sense chiefly as a discounted, large-format Samsung watch for someone who will use its outdoor-oriented hardware. Its size is a real comfort trade-off, and the 100-hour and 48-hour figures apply only to Samsung’s specified power-saving modes. Since the Ultra2 is now the successor, paying the older model’s $649.99 listed US MSRP is harder to justify unless its price has fallen or its specific features suit you better.
