The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) and Galaxy Watch8 Classic share much of Samsung’s 2025 smartwatch platform, but they are aimed at different buyers. The Ultra is the better fit for long battery life, LTE, demanding outdoor use, and a more rugged titanium-and-sapphire design. The Watch8 Classic is the more traditional-looking option, with a physical rotating bezel, a thinner case, and a lower entry price—especially in Bluetooth form.

Neither is simply the “better” watch. The meaningful choice is between the Ultra’s endurance and outdoor hardware and the Classic’s tactile controls, conventional styling, and broader price ladder.

GPS Dual-frequency GPS Dual-frequency GPS
U.S. MSRP in the supplied June 2026 pricing context $649.99 LTE $499.99 Bluetooth; $549.99 LTE

The specifications show why this is not primarily a speed or app comparison. Both watches have 3 nm-class hardware, 64 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM, dual-frequency GPS, and a high-brightness display rated in the up-to-3,000-nit class. The Ultra’s premium is mainly buying endurance, tougher outdoor hardware, and LTE—not a dramatically different everyday software experience.

Samsung’s battery figures are laboratory/vendor estimates rather than guaranteed real-world results. GPS use, LTE, screen brightness, workouts, notifications, sleep tracking, and always-on display settings can reduce runtime.

What the two watches have in common

Both watches belong to Samsung’s One UI 8 Watch and Wear OS 6-era ecosystem. The Watch8 family launched with Wear OS 6 and Gemini, while Samsung’s 2025 One UI 8 Watch update brought newer health and interface features to the 2025 Ultra platform as well.

  • high-brightness displays suitable for outdoor viewing.

That shared foundation matters. A buyer should not pay Ultra money expecting a major advantage in basic app performance, storage capacity, or map-positioning technology. The Ultra’s case, battery, cellular configuration, and durability rating are the more substantial differences.

Health features can vary by country, model, software version, and paired smartphone. They are consumer health and fitness tools, not medical diagnosis or treatment devices.

1. The Ultra has the clear battery advantage

The biggest functional difference is battery capacity and Samsung’s stated endurance. The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) has a 590 mAh battery, compared with 445 mAh in the Watch8 Classic. Samsung rates the Ultra for up to 60 hours with the always-on display enabled and up to 100 hours in Power Saving Mode. The Classic is rated for up to 30 hours with the always-on display.

Those numbers do not mean every Ultra owner will get two full days, or that every Classic must be charged daily. They do establish the intended design priorities. The Ultra gives you more headroom for long workouts, GPS tracking, LTE use, sleep tracking, and days when you do not want to carry a charger. The Classic is more dependent on a regular charging routine.

Choose the Ultra if you regularly:

  • spend long periods away from a charger;
  • track multi-hour hikes, rides, or endurance events;
  • use LTE while exercising or traveling without your phone;
  • track sleep and do not want to charge overnight; or
  • prefer charging every couple of days rather than every day.

If your normal use is notifications, occasional workouts, sleep tracking, and phone-connected smartwatch features, the Classic’s shorter stated battery life may be acceptable—particularly if its design appeals to you more.

2. Ultra is tougher, but 10 ATM does not make it a dive watch

The Ultra combines a Grade 4 titanium case, sapphire crystal, 10 ATM water resistance, IP68 protection, and MIL-STD-810H testing. The Watch8 Classic uses a stainless-steel case and has 5 ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H ratings.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That makes the Ultra the more appropriate choice for a demanding outdoor brief: trail activity, frequent exposure to water, multisport training, and situations where a larger endurance-focused case is worthwhile. The Classic is still a capable smartwatch for everyday wear and ordinary exercise, but it does not have the Ultra’s higher water-pressure rating or the same titanium-and-sapphire positioning.

Do not interpret 10 ATM as permission for every kind of diving. Water resistance is not permanent, and Samsung’s documentation places limits on activities and conditions. Water pressure, impact, chemicals, temperature changes, and normal wear can affect seals. Rinse and dry the watch after appropriate water exposure, and follow Samsung’s activity guidance rather than treating the ATM number as a universal diving certification.

3. The rotating bezel is the Classic’s defining advantage

The Watch8 Classic’s physical rotating bezel is more than a decorative detail. It provides tactile scrolling and navigation without requiring you to cover the screen with a finger. That can be useful while moving, during workouts, or whenever you want the watch to feel more like a conventional timepiece.

The Classic also has a Quick Button for launching apps, starting workouts, or triggering routines. The Ultra has a Quick Button too, but it does not offer the Classic’s physical rotating bezel as its signature control.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

This is the main reason to choose the Classic even if you could afford the Ultra. Its appeal is the combination of a traditional watch presentation and direct mechanical interaction. If you already know that you enjoy rotating bezels—or dislike navigating a watch mostly through touch—the Classic has a meaningful usability advantage that its specification sheet cannot reduce to battery capacity.

4. The Classic is thinner, but not lighter on the cited specifications

The Ultra has the larger 47 mm footprint and measures 12.1 mm thick. The Classic measures approximately 46 mm and is 10.6 mm thick. The difference in thickness is 1.5 mm, which can matter under a shirt cuff or on a smaller wrist.

However, the Classic is listed at 63.5 g without its band, compared with 60.5 g for the Ultra. That means the smaller, stainless-steel Classic is not automatically the lighter watch. Band material, band size, wrist shape, and personal comfort will influence the experience more than case dimensions alone.

In practical terms:

  • Choose Classic for a thinner profile: It is the less bulky option and has a more traditional silhouette.
  • Choose Ultra for the larger outdoor presence: Its 47 mm case and rugged design are intentional, not incidental.
  • Do not choose by weight alone: The listed case-only weights do not make the Classic the lighter option.

Anyone with a small wrist should pay particular attention to the Ultra’s 47 mm size and 12.1 mm thickness. Anyone who prioritizes a dressier appearance should examine the Classic’s bezel and stainless-steel styling.

5. LTE changes the price comparison

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is an LTE watch. The Watch8 Classic is available in both Bluetooth and LTE versions. That creates two different comparisons:

  • Like-for-like cellular comparison: Ultra LTE at $649.99 versus Classic LTE at $549.99. The difference is $100 at the supplied U.S. MSRP.
  • Lowest purchase price: Ultra LTE at $649.99 versus Classic Bluetooth at $499.99. The difference is $150, but the watches do not have the same connectivity capability.

For a fair hardware and connectivity comparison, compare the Ultra with the LTE Classic. For a budget decision, compare the actual version you would buy. A Bluetooth Classic may be the better value if your phone is nearly always nearby and you do not need independent calling, messaging, streaming, or connected services while away from it.

LTE service may also involve carrier compatibility and a separate plan, depending on your region and provider. Verify eSIM support, carrier activation requirements, and the exact model code before buying.

Which watch is better for outdoor and multisport use?

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is the stronger choice. Its larger battery, 10 ATM rating, titanium case, sapphire crystal, LTE configuration, and outdoor/endurance positioning all support that conclusion.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That does not mean the Watch8 Classic cannot track workouts or use GPS. It has dual-frequency GPS and the same broad software and health platform. The distinction is that the Ultra is designed around the needs of someone who makes battery life and ruggedness central to the purchase.

Buy the Ultra when the watch is part of your outdoor equipment. Buy the Classic when outdoor workouts are one activity among many and the watch will mostly be worn at work, at home, or in social settings.

Which watch is better for everyday wear?

The Watch8 Classic is the more natural everyday recommendation for most style-conscious buyers. Its traditional appearance, rotating bezel, thinner case, Bluetooth option, and lower starting price make it easier to wear and easier to justify when you do not need the Ultra’s endurance package.

The Ultra can still work as an everyday watch, especially if you value its larger display, LTE, and fewer charging interruptions. But its thicker 47 mm case and more visibly rugged design may be excessive for someone who mainly wants notifications, calls, health tracking, and a watch that looks at home with business or casual clothing.

With the GPS connectivity, you could get a map of your workout route in the app for outdoor activity by connecting to your phone GPS.
  • You want the longest stated battery life between these two models.
  • LTE is essential rather than merely convenient.
  • You spend substantial time hiking, training, traveling, or exercising away from your phone.
  • You prefer titanium, sapphire crystal, and a higher 10 ATM rating.
  • You want a larger, more outdoor-oriented watch.
  • You can buy it at a meaningful discount compared with newer models.

The last point is important. Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026, with general availability beginning August 7, 2026. That makes the 2025 Ultra a prior-generation product in markets and dates covered by that announcement. It can still be the right purchase at a lower price, but it should not be described as Samsung’s newest Ultra.

Who should buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic?

Choose the Watch8 Classic if these priorities sound more like you:

  • You specifically want a physical rotating bezel.
  • You prefer a conventional watch appearance.
  • You want a thinner 46 mm body.
  • You want the option of Bluetooth-only to reduce the upfront cost.
  • You want the current-generation health and software platform without paying for Ultra-specific endurance and ruggedness features.
  • You spend more time in everyday settings than on long outdoor adventures.

The LTE Classic is the fairest alternative if you want cellular connectivity. The Bluetooth model is the value option if your phone normally stays with you.

Buying checklist before you order

  1. Pick the connectivity version. Confirm whether you need LTE or Bluetooth. Do not compare the Ultra’s LTE price with the Classic’s Bluetooth price without acknowledging the capability difference.
  2. Check the country and model code. Colors, configurations, carrier support, and health features can vary by market.
  3. Confirm the size and fit. The Ultra is 47 mm and 12.1 mm thick; the Classic is approximately 46 mm and 10.6 mm thick.
  4. Verify what is included. Check the case color, band size, charging accessories, warranty, and seller identity.
  5. Recheck the price. The stated prices are U.S. MSRP from the supplied June 2026 pricing context, not a live deal quote. Promotions, trade-ins, retailer discounts, and carrier offers can change the better value.
  6. Buy model-specific accessories. Samsung says Watch8 and Watch8 Classic bands are not compatible with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Do not order a generic “Galaxy Watch8/Ultra” band, case, or screen protector without confirming compatibility.

Verdict: how different are they?

They are moderately different in hardware purpose but quite similar in software foundation. Both provide Samsung’s current smartwatch experience, 64 GB of storage, 2 GB of RAM, dual-frequency GPS, and comparable display technology. The Ultra is not a completely different class of software device.

The differences become decisive when you consider how you will wear the watch:

  • Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025): choose it for battery endurance, LTE, rugged materials, 10 ATM water resistance, and outdoor or multisport use.
  • Galaxy Watch8 Classic: choose it for the rotating bezel, traditional styling, thinner case, and Bluetooth/LTE price flexibility.

At the supplied U.S. MSRP, the Ultra costs $100 more than the LTE Classic and $150 more than the Bluetooth Classic. That premium is reasonable only if you will use the Ultra’s endurance, cellular connection, or rugged hardware. If those features are not central to your routine, the Watch8 Classic gives you much of the same everyday smartwatch platform for less money—and adds the rotating bezel that the Ultra does not have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 better than the Galaxy Watch8 Classic?

Not for every buyer. The Ultra is better for battery life, LTE, outdoor durability, and multisport use. The Watch8 Classic is better for a thinner traditional design, a physical rotating bezel, and a lower starting price.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Which has better battery life, the Galaxy Watch Ultra or Watch8 Classic?

The Galaxy Watch Ultra has the larger battery and the longer Samsung-rated endurance. Samsung lists up to 60 hours with always-on display for the Ultra and up to 30 hours with always-on display for the Watch8 Classic. Actual runtime depends on settings and usage.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 Classic have LTE?

Yes. The Watch8 Classic is available in Bluetooth and LTE versions. The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is an LTE configuration, so compare it with the LTE Classic for the fairest price comparison.

Can you use Watch8 Classic bands on the Galaxy Watch Ultra?

Do not assume they are interchangeable. Samsung says Watch8 and Watch8 Classic bands are not compatible with the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Check accessory compatibility for the exact watch model before ordering.

Is the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 a diving watch?

No broad diving claim should be made from its 10 ATM rating alone. Samsung’s water-resistance guidance and activity limitations still apply, and water resistance can decline through wear, impact, and other conditions.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Buy the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) for endurance, LTE, and rugged outdoor hardware—especially if a discount makes its prior-generation status worthwhile. Buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic for the rotating bezel, slimmer traditional styling, and the option to spend less with Bluetooth. The Ultra is more specialized; the Classic is the more broadly appealing everyday watch.
