This comparison is about those exact models, not the newest watches: as of October 12, 2026, Samsung has announced Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Apple has announced Apple Watch Ultra 4. Check current generations and local prices before buying.
How do the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra and Apple Watch Ultra 2 compare?
| What matters | Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra | Apple Watch Ultra 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Phone compatibility | Android phones; Samsung identifies some features that are unavailable on non-Samsung phones. | iPhone Xs or later, including iPhone SE (2nd generation or later), running iOS 18 or later. |
| Advertised battery estimates | Up to 100 hours in Power Saving mode; up to 48 hours in Exercise Power Saving mode. | Up to 36 hours of normal use; up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. |
| Water and dust claims | Samsung advertises 10 ATM/IP68 and depth-rated use up to 100 metres. | 100 metres under ISO 22810:2010; IP6X dust resistance; recreational scuba diving to 40 metres with a compatible third-party app. |
| Case and fit information | Titanium cushion-design case; the reviewed Samsung material does not establish all original-model dimensions. | 49 × 44 × 12 mm; 61.4 g in natural titanium or 61.8 g in black; listed for wrists 130–210 mm. |
| Price reference | Samsung’s March 2026 US MSRP sheet lists $649.99 for Galaxy Watch Ultra LTE; prices are subject to change. | A comparable current Ultra 2 price is not established by the reviewed Apple specifications. |
The battery figures are manufacturers’ estimates for different modes, not results from a directly comparable test. The Samsung claims come from its US product page; Apple’s normal-use estimate uses a defined test routine and Apple says actual results vary. Neither figure guarantees how long your watch will last with your own settings, signal, workout use, and apps.

Which watch works with your phone?
Choose by your current phone
If you use an iPhone, Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the straightforward compatible choice between these two. If you use Android, Galaxy Watch Ultra is the compatible direction. Samsung says some capabilities—including certain AI features, ECG, and sleep-apnea features—are unavailable when the watch is paired with a non-Samsung Android phone. Check the feature requirements for your phone before buying if one of those functions matters to you.

Check the exact Galaxy Watch Ultra version
Samsung’s product page covers the original Ultra and a 2025 version. Samsung says the 2025 version retains the original experience while adding storage and a Titanium Blue option. Since a listing may not make the refresh or configuration obvious, confirm the exact model and LTE status with the seller rather than assuming every Galaxy Watch Ultra listing is the same SKU.

How long does the battery last in the modes you will use?
Apple’s normal-use estimate is based on 600 time checks, 180 notifications, 30 minutes of app use, and a 60-minute Bluetooth-music workout over 36 hours, with specified periods of LTE and iPhone connection. Apple says actual results vary with use, configuration, cellular network, and signal. Apple also claims that Ultra 2 can charge to 80% in about an hour under its stated test setup.
Samsung’s longer advertised intervals apply when Power Saving or Exercise Power Saving is enabled. Those modes and Apple’s normal-use and Low Power estimates are not equivalent test conditions, so the advertised hours alone do not establish which watch will last longer in your routine. Consider whether you intend to use cellular service, GPS workouts, music, and power-saving features, and look for independent testing of the exact model if battery endurance is decisive.

Can you swim or dive with either watch?
Water resistance is not the same as dive approval
Apple’s specifications explicitly list recreational scuba diving to 40 metres when using a compatible third-party app; Apple says not to dive below that limit. Apple lists depth, water temperature, duration, and entry and exit points among the recreational-diving features. Oceanic+ requires a subscription. Apple also warns that water resistance can diminish over time.

Samsung’s 10 ATM/IP68 and depth-rated-to-100-metres claims describe its water-resistance specifications. They do not, by themselves, establish that Galaxy Watch Ultra is an authorized dive computer or that its rating is equivalent to Apple’s app-qualified recreational-diving use. For either watch, follow the manufacturer’s operating guidance and the requirements of any activity-specific app; do not infer safe dive use from a depth number alone.

Which is better for hiking, workouts, and outdoor use?
Galaxy Watch Ultra outdoor features
Samsung highlights dual-frequency GPS, a Quick Button, activity bands, and outdoor operating-temperature and altitude claims. Its product page also describes a BioActive sensor and Galaxy AI health features. Those specifications may appeal if you want a rugged watch with physical workout access and Android integration, but the feature list is not a head-to-head GPS or workout-accuracy test.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 navigation and multisport tools
Apple lists hiking tools including compass bearing, incline, elevation, coordinates, Backtrack, and offline maps, as well as cycling and multisport functions. Some map details are specific to the United States, so verify what is available where you plan to use the watch. For either model, check that your preferred route, workout, or mapping workflow works in your region and with your phone before relying on it outdoors.

What health features are available, and what are their limits?
Apple lists ECG, blood oxygen, heart rate, temperature, cycle tracking, sleep stages, and sleep-apnea notifications for Ultra 2. These capabilities have eligibility and availability limits: for example, Apple says ECG is intended for people aged 22 and older, and sleep-apnea notifications are intended for people 18 and older who have not been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Apple describes blood oxygen as a wellness feature, not a diagnostic tool. Software version and region can also affect availability.
Samsung lists a BioActive sensor and Galaxy AI health features, but some features depend on pairing with a Samsung phone. Samsung identifies ECG and sleep-apnea features among those restricted on non-Samsung phones. For either watch, treat health notifications and measurements according to the manufacturer’s intended use; they are not a substitute for medical diagnosis or care. Confirm local availability and eligibility for the specific feature you want.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- You have an iPhone: Choose Apple Watch Ultra 2 if you are considering these two models and your iPhone meets Apple’s requirements.
- You have an Android phone: Galaxy Watch Ultra is the compatible option here. A Samsung phone offers broader access to the features Samsung says are limited on other Android phones.
- You are choosing mainly for diving: Apple’s listed recreational-diving support has an explicit 40-metre limit and app condition. Do not treat Samsung’s water-resistance depth claims as equivalent dive-computer authorization.
- You are choosing mainly for battery or rugged outdoor use: Compare the actual operating modes, GPS and cellular use, route tools, and phone-specific features you expect to use. The manufacturers’ battery estimates do not establish a controlled winner.
- You are shopping in 2026: Check the announced Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 as well as prices for the older models. The exact named watches are no longer the newest announced Ultras from their respective companies.
