Samsung unveiled it at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22, 2026, and began shipping it on August 7. The US starting price is $699.99 before trade-in.
This is more than a cosmetic update. The Ultra2 brings an 800 mAh battery, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform, a peak brightness rating of up to 5,000 nits, a thinner case and upgraded durability credentials. Whether it is worth buying depends on how much you value those Ultra-specific upgrades over the cheaper Galaxy Watch9 or discounted original Galaxy Watch Ultra.

In the US, Samsung lists the watch from $699.99, with a displayed financing option of $29.17 per month before trade-in. When checked on August 18, Samsung was advertising up to $250 in instant trade-in credit or $100 in Samsung credit without a trade-in. Those offers are promotional and can change.
TechAdvisor reported launch pricing of $699.99 in the US and £649 in the UK. Prices, taxes, carrier terms and promotions vary by country. The older Galaxy Watch Ultra had appeared in a June 2026 Samsung MSRP document at $649.99, but that was the previous model’s price—not the Ultra2’s launch MSRP.

The five biggest hardware upgrades
1. An 800 mAh battery
The Ultra2 has an 800 mAh battery, compared with the 590 mAh capacity Samsung shows for the original Galaxy Watch Ultra in its comparison information. Samsung describes that as a 35% increase in capacity.
That is the clearest hardware upgrade, particularly for GPS workouts, LTE use and multi-day outdoor trips. However, a 35% larger battery does not automatically mean 35% longer runtime. Always-on display mode, high brightness, cellular connectivity, GPS, sleep tracking, music streaming, temperature and background apps all affect endurance.
There is no verified independent long-term battery test in the available evidence, so claims of a guaranteed three-day battery should be treated as estimates rather than promises. Samsung also says the watch can reach up to 40% charge in about 30 minutes under stated conditions. Actual charging varies with the charger, adapter, temperature, battery state and usage.
2. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform
The Ultra2 is identified by Samsung as the first Galaxy Watch to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform, replacing the previous-generation Samsung Exynos wearable processor.

Samsung says the platform improves processing speed, app launches and responsiveness. Those claims are plausible benefits of the new platform, but they are not independent benchmark results. The chip may make the interface feel smoother and help with tasks such as GPS computation, but it does not by itself guarantee better battery life or faster performance in every workload.
3. A display rated up to 5,000 nits
The display reaches a claimed peak of up to 5,000 nits, which Samsung describes as its brightest smartwatch display. The practical advantage is easier reading of maps, pace data and notifications in direct sunlight, on trails, around water and in bright snow.
Peak brightness is not the same as sustained brightness. The screen will not necessarily operate continuously at 5,000 nits in every mode or environment, so this should be understood as a maximum rating rather than a constant output.
4. A thinner case
Despite the larger battery, Samsung says the Ultra2 is 12% thinner than its predecessor. Secondary coverage lists the thickness at 10.7 mm. A thinner body could make the large 47 mm watch more comfortable, although it remains a substantial watch rather than a compact everyday model.

5. More demanding durability credentials
The Ultra2 carries IP69K and 10 ATM ratings and adds EN13319 certification for diving instruments. Samsung also lists recreational dive tracking for depth, water temperature and elapsed dive time, with a stated limit of up to 40 metres (130 feet).
These specifications do not mean unlimited underwater use. Water resistance can decline through wear, impact, chemicals and servicing. The Ultra2 should not be used below Samsung’s stated depth limit, and it is not a replacement for a dedicated professional dive computer. Samsung’s US disclosures also indicate that the relevant diving app may require a separate download, including reference to the Mares app.
Outdoor and sports features
The Ultra2 is designed around more than basic step and workout tracking. Samsung highlights:

The Ultra2 includes Samsung Health functions such as Energy Score, Sleep Coaching, sleep-apnea risk detection, blood-pressure estimates, ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm-related features where supported, Heart Health Score, body-composition measurements and Galaxy AI-generated health insights.
Availability is not universal. Depending on the feature, you may need:
- A compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone.
- Samsung Health or Samsung Health Monitor.
- A Samsung account.
- Specific app versions.
- Regulatory approval in your country.
- A separate cuff to calibrate blood-pressure estimates.
Sleep-apnea detection is available only in selected countries. ECG, blood pressure and rhythm-related functions can also vary by region, phone, age and regulatory status. These features are intended for personal reference and are not substitutes for professional diagnosis or treatment.
Samsung’s product disclosures contain the current feature, compatibility and health-feature restrictions.

The Ultra2 requires a compatible Android smartphone; Samsung’s US disclosures cite Android 13 or later for some features. Basic pairing should not be confused with full feature support: selected health and ecosystem functions require Samsung Galaxy hardware, Samsung apps or a Samsung account.
It should not be described as compatible with iPhone based on the available specifications. iPhone owners should look at Apple Watch Ultra instead.

LTE models can use GPS without a paired phone, but standalone calls, messages and mobile data require a qualifying carrier plan. LTE service, supported bands and activation requirements vary by market. Non-LTE models remain more dependent on a Bluetooth-connected phone for connected functions.
Galaxy Watch Ultra2 versus the original Galaxy Watch Ultra
The upgrade case is strongest if you need the Ultra2’s:
- 800 mAh battery instead of the older model’s listed 590 mAh capacity.
- Snapdragon Wear Elite Platform.
- Up-to-5,000-nit display.
- Thinner construction.
- IP69K and EN13319 credentials.
- Expanded outdoor and diving tools.
The original Ultra is still capable: it has a large titanium case, LTE, GPS, health tracking and rugged outdoor positioning. If you already own one, the Ultra2’s capacity increase is meaningful hardware, but its real-world endurance advantage still needs independent testing. Some software features may also reach older hardware where technically possible.
The original becomes attractive when clearance pricing creates a substantial gap. It is difficult to justify buying old hardware at a price close to the Ultra2, but a major discount can change that calculation.

The Galaxy Watch9 is the better fit for many everyday users. It comes in smaller 40 mm and 44 mm sizes, costs less and offers a more conventional smartwatch design with many of Samsung’s core health and Wear OS functions.
Choose the Ultra2 instead if you specifically want its:
- Much larger battery capacity.
- 47 mm titanium construction.
- Very high outdoor display brightness.
- LTE-focused rugged design.
- Trail, navigation and diving specialization.
The Ultra2 is not simply a bigger Watch9. Its premium is primarily paying for outdoor hardware, endurance capacity and durability—not just access to Samsung’s health software.
Best Value
- 47mm Titanium Case
- Up to 5,000 Nits Display Brightness
- Large 800 mAh Battery
- IP69K Dust and Water Resistance
- 10 ATM Water Resistance
Who should buy the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?
- Outdoor athletes: Trail runners, hikers and cyclists benefit most from the brighter display, route tools and larger battery.
- Samsung power users: It is Samsung’s most ambitious wearable hardware and integrates deeply with Samsung Health.
- LTE users: The cellular version is useful for workouts away from a phone, provided your carrier supports it.
- Recreational divers: The certifications and dive metrics add useful capability, within Samsung’s stated limits.
- Large-watch buyers: The 47 mm body suits people who prefer a substantial watch and can tolerate its size.
Who should skip it?
- iPhone owners: The available compatibility information supports Android, not iOS.
- Small-wrist users: The 47 mm case may be too large or heavy.
- Casual smartwatch buyers: Notifications, basic activity tracking and sleep tracking do not require Ultra pricing.
- Buyers who do not need LTE or outdoor tools: The Watch9 is likely better value.
- Professional divers: The watch is not a substitute for a dedicated dive computer.
- People outside Samsung’s ecosystem: Some health functions require a Galaxy phone, Samsung apps or regional approval.
Alternatives by user type
Garmin is the more natural direction for endurance athletes who prioritize long-duration training, navigation and sports analytics over Samsung’s Wear OS and smart-device ecosystem.
Apple Watch Ultra makes more sense for iPhone owners and households built around Apple Health and watchOS.
Whoop suits readers focused mainly on recovery, strain and sleep insights rather than a conventional smartwatch display, LTE calling or full navigation.

Verdict
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is a confirmed 2026 launch, not a rumor. Its 800 mAh battery, new Snapdragon platform, 5,000-nit peak display, thinner body and stronger durability specifications constitute a substantial hardware refresh.
It is most compelling for Galaxy owners who genuinely need long outdoor sessions, LTE, rugged construction, bright navigation data or recreational diving features. For ordinary notifications and health tracking, the Galaxy Watch9 is likely the smarter buy. Owners of the original Ultra should upgrade mainly for the battery capacity, display and durability changes—and should avoid treating Samsung’s capacity figures as guaranteed real-world battery life until independent testing is available.
