In the Galaxy Wearable app, check Show with details and Turn on screen first. If notifications are missing from the watch entirely, use the separate delivery checks below.
First, tell a missing preview from a missing notification
Swipe right from the watch face to open the notification list. If the alert is there, the watch received it; focus on preview, screen-wake, privacy, or watch-mode settings. If it is not there, troubleshoot delivery: the phone may not be generating the alert, the app may be disabled for the watch, or the connection or notification access may have failed. Samsung describes notification delivery, per-app controls, and advanced display behavior as separate settings.
Turn on automatic previews and screen wake
- Open Galaxy Wearable on the paired Android phone.
- Tap Watch settings → Notifications → Advanced notification settings.
- Turn on Show with details. Some software versions may label this Auto show details.
- Turn on Turn on screen, sometimes labeled Turn display on.
These are separate controls: showing details governs the preview, while turning on the screen governs whether the display wakes for an incoming notification. Samsung documents them in its Galaxy watch notification settings and notification troubleshooting guide. Menu labels can vary by phone, region, carrier, and watch software.
Make sure the affected app is allowed on the watch
- In Galaxy Wearable, open Watch settings → Notifications → App notifications.
- Set the app filter to All, if available, and enable the affected app.
- If the problem concerns a recently installed app, enable Turn on for new apps if that option appears.
Then check the phone: open its notification settings for that app and confirm notifications are allowed. Check the app’s own notification categories and whether it is set to deliver silently. If you expect message content, also review lock-screen and preview privacy settings; an alert can arrive without revealing its contents. Wear OS relies on phone notification behavior, so a phone-side block can prevent the corresponding alert from appearing on the watch. See Google’s Wear OS notification troubleshooting guidance.

Check whether the phone is in use
In Galaxy Wearable → Watch settings → Notifications, look for Show while using phone or a similarly named option. Depending on its setting, the watch may not show the same alert while the phone is unlocked and actively being used. For a useful test, lock the phone before sending a test notification. Samsung notes that notification options and screens can vary across devices in its notification settings guidance.
Temporarily turn off modes that suppress alerts
Open the watch’s Quick settings and, for testing, turn off Do Not Disturb, Theater mode, Sleep/Bedtime or Goodnight mode, and Power saving. Do Not Disturb and Theater mode can suppress notification behavior on Wear OS; Theater mode is especially relevant when the display stays off. If the watch displays the alert but does not make a sound or vibrate, check mute and alert settings too. A silent notification may still appear on screen. Verify the connection and notification access
Confirm the watch is connected
- Open Galaxy Wearable and check that the Watch4 is shown as connected.
- On the watch, swipe down and inspect the connection indicators.
- Keep the phone and watch nearby. If needed, toggle Bluetooth off and on, then restart both devices.
The Watch4 is a Wear OS watch that requires a compatible Android phone and Galaxy Wearable for setup; it is not an iOS-compatible standalone watch. Samsung explains the Watch4 phone and setup requirements. Bluetooth, remote Wi-Fi, and LTE connections do not guarantee identical behavior: some app alerts may still depend on the phone or internet connection.
Restore notification access if it was revoked
If the problem started after an update, phone migration, app reinstall, or privacy-setting change, search the phone’s Settings for Notification access, Device and app notifications, or Notification access permissions. Confirm Galaxy Wearable and relevant Watch Manager components have access. Android menu paths differ by phone maker and version, so there is no single path that applies to every Watch4 owner.

If access is already enabled, you can try turning it off, restarting the phone, turning it back on, and reopening Galaxy Wearable. Treat this as a recovery step rather than a universal fix.
Check battery and background restrictions
On some Android phones, background management can limit Galaxy Wearable or its watch-manager components. In the phone’s Battery settings, check whether those apps are restricted, sleeping, or listed under deep-sleep apps; remove restrictions for testing if appropriate. Search Settings for terms such as battery optimization, background usage, sleeping apps, or deep sleeping apps. The exact controls vary by phone. Also turn off the watch’s Power saving mode temporarily. Samsung’s battery optimization guidance describes background restrictions and notes that menus vary by Android version.

Use a controlled test before escalating
- Lock the phone, wear the connected watch, and send a test message from another device.
- Note separately whether the watch vibrates or sounds, whether the screen wakes, and whether the message details appear automatically.
- Swipe right from the watch face to see whether the notification is in the list.
- Repeat with a second app to distinguish an app-specific issue from a watch-wide one.
If the alert is in the list but the screen stays off, revisit Turn on screen and the watch modes. If it appears only after opening the notification, revisit Show with details and phone preview privacy. - Switch Show with details and Turn on screen off and back on.
- Force-close Galaxy Wearable and reopen it.
- Restart the phone and watch.
- Check for updates to Galaxy Wearable, Watch4 Manager or related components, phone software, watch software, and the affected app.
- Recheck app permissions, notification access, connection, and background restrictions.
- Clear Galaxy Wearable’s cache if your phone offers that option. Cache clearing is different from clearing app data; clearing data can require setup again.
- Only then consider reinstalling Galaxy Wearable or re-pairing the watch. Either may require setup again.
Google includes restarting the watch and phone among Wear OS notification troubleshooting steps. A factory reset is a later option, not the opening fix. Consider it only if the problem affects multiple apps and persists after settings, updates, restarts, and re-pairing—or if Samsung Support or Samsung Members advises it. Resetting erases watch apps, settings, and stored watch data. Back up what the current software supports and make sure you know the Samsung and Google account credentials before proceeding. When to contact Samsung
If notifications from multiple apps still fail after settings, permission, connection, update, restart, and re-pairing checks, contact Samsung Support or use Samsung Members. A notification that becomes visible when tapped points first to presentation settings; a hardware fault is more plausible if the display fails to wake for other purposes, touch or buttons stop responding, or the watch also fails to vibrate for alarms and calls.
