Samsung released the eighth One UI 6 Watch beta for the Galaxy Watch6 series on October 18, 2024. The firmware build was ZXJ5. It was a beta maintenance release focused on system stability, performance, battery-current consumption, and network interoperability—not a major new feature update.

This is a historical 2024 beta release, not a new 2026 update. Samsung began rolling out the stable One UI 6 Watch update to the Galaxy Watch6 series on November 19, 2024.

What was released?

Samsung’s beta notice described ZXJ5 as a maintenance update. It did not identify it as a final beta or release candidate.

What changed in beta 8?

The official changelog was short and did not provide a detailed bug-by-bug list. Samsung listed these improvements:

  • Improved system stability
  • Optimized system performance
  • Improved battery-current consumption
  • Improved network interoperability
  • Other unspecified improvements

“Improved battery-current consumption” should not be read as a guaranteed increase in battery life. Samsung provided no percentage improvement, battery-life estimate, benchmark, or testing methodology. Likewise, “improved network interoperability” does not identify a particular network problem that was fixed.

There is also no evidence in the ZXJ5 notice that beta 8 newly introduced features such as Energy Score, enhanced sleep analysis, Workout Routine, Race, new watch faces, Suggested replies, or Double Pinch Gestures. Those belong to the broader One UI 6 Watch experience and should not be presented as beta 8-specific additions.

Where beta 8 fits in the One UI 6 Watch rollout

The beta program progressed through multiple builds before the stable release:

  • June 12, 2024: One UI 6 Watch beta program began.
  • June 27, 2024: Second beta, build ZXFB.
  • July 26, 2024: Fourth beta, build ZXG6 for Watch6.
  • August 20, 2024: Fifth beta, build ZXH4.
  • September 12, 2024: Sixth beta, build ZXI8.
  • October 18, 2024: Eighth beta, build ZXJ5.
  • November 19, 2024: Stable One UI 6 Watch rollout began, initially for the Galaxy Watch6 series.

The sequence shows Samsung refining stability and compatibility ahead of the stable rollout, but it does not establish that ZXJ5 was the final beta.

For context, Samsung’s stable One UI 6 Watch announcement described the wider feature set, while its update overview documented supported generations and availability qualifications.

How to install the update

For an eligible beta participant, Samsung gave this installation path:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Open the Galaxy Wearable app on the connected phone.
  2. Select the connected Galaxy Watch.
  3. Open Watch settings.
  4. Tap Watch software update.
  5. Select Download and install.

Keep the phone and watch connected, charge the watch before starting, and back up important data first. The watch may restart during installation and should not be disconnected while the firmware is being applied.

Who could receive beta 8?

Beta 8 was not a normal public update for every Galaxy Watch6 owner. Access depended on beta enrollment, the supported model, market, rollout timing, and Samsung’s program rules.

Samsung’s US beta information indicated that participation was intended for Bluetooth models; LTE models were not planned for that US beta program. That limitation should not automatically be generalized to every country or variant. Availability can vary by market, carrier, model, and paired smartphone.

The update therefore applied to different owners in different ways:

  • Enrolled Bluetooth Watch6 owners: Potentially eligible once Samsung made ZXJ5 available for their market and model.
  • LTE Watch6 owners: Not included in the US beta program according to Samsung’s beta guidance; other markets require separate confirmation.
  • Non-enrolled owners: Not eligible for the beta and had to wait for the stable rollout.
  • Watch5 and Watch4 owners: Covered by separate beta builds and schedules, not this Watch6 ZXJ5 notice.

What to do if ZXJ5 does not appear

An absent update does not necessarily indicate a faulty watch. Check the following:

SAMSUNG Galaxy Watch 6 40mm Bluetooth Smartwatch w/ Fitness Tracker, Personalized HR Zones, Advanced Sleep Coaching, Heart Monitor, BIA Sensor, US Version, Gold (Renewed)
  • Smart watch with Wear OS by Samsung, Made of aluminum in Gold color Frame (Cream Band).
  • Offers Bluetooth 5.3, Wi-Fi 2.4GHz and 5GHz, GPS and NFC. Ultra-durable sapphire crystal glass makes for a resilient and sturdy watch display, while IP68 and 5ATM ratings mean your watch is tough enough to stay with you on your adventures.
  • Understand your nights to make the most of your days; wear your Galaxy Watch6 to bed and monitor your nightly sleep stage, sleep score and sleep consistency to improve your sleep.
  • Sync your Galaxy Watch with your Galaxy smartphone, Tab, and Buds for a completely connected experience.
  • Confirm that the watch was enrolled in the relevant beta program.
  • Check whether the watch is a supported Bluetooth model for the applicable market.
  • Update the phone’s Galaxy Wearable app and the Watch6 Manager component if updates are available.
  • Make sure the watch is paired correctly and connected to the phone.
  • Retry while the watch is charged and connected to Wi-Fi or a reliable mobile connection.
  • Allow for regional, carrier, and model-specific rollout differences.

Do not install firmware from an unofficial source merely to force the update. If the watch was not enrolled, waiting for the stable release was the appropriate route.

Should you install beta 8?

If you were already enrolled and wanted to help test One UI 6 Watch, ZXJ5 offered the latest documented beta fixes available at that point. The potential benefits were better stability, performance, battery-current behavior, and network compatibility.

However, it remained beta software. Samsung did not publish every known issue, and beta firmware can affect app compatibility, phone pairing, notifications, health tracking, or LTE-related behavior. Anyone who depended on the watch for reliable health, fitness, or communication functions had a reasonable reason to wait for stable software.

The practical expectation is simple: beta 8 was a refinement release, not a dramatic feature drop. Verify the build as ZXJ5, keep expectations aligned with Samsung’s brief maintenance changelog, and distinguish it from the stable One UI 6 Watch rollout that followed in November 2024.
