It is not automatically a better smartwatch than the standard Galaxy Watch8.
The two models use the same Exynos W1000 processor, health sensors, dual-frequency GPS, Wear OS software, One UI Watch interface, and Gemini features. The Classic premium mainly buys a more tactile, traditional-watch experience. The standard Watch8 is lighter, cheaper, available in two sizes, and its 44mm version actually has a larger display.
This review is updated for the U.S. market as of August 10, 2026. Samsung has since launched the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2, but there is no Watch9 Classic. The Watch8 Classic remains Samsung’s latest Classic-branded model, while Watch9 is now the company’s current mainstream watch.
The short answer
Buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic if the rotating bezel is a must-have rather than a novelty. It is also the Watch8-family choice for someone who prefers a steel watch, wants 64GB of storage, and can comfortably wear a relatively heavy 46mm case.

Choose the standard Galaxy Watch8 if you care more about comfort, price, a smaller case, or the larger 44mm display. You get essentially the same core smartwatch and health platform without paying for hardware you may not use.

As a new purchase in 2026, also compare the Galaxy Watch9. It has newer Snapdragon Wear Elite hardware and newer health features, but it does not have the Classic’s rotating bezel or stainless-steel design.
Bottom-line recommendation: Buy the Classic for the controls and character; buy the standard Watch8 or Watch9 for hardware value, comfort, and a more future-facing purchase.
U.S. price and what the premium buys
The following are U.S. launch MSRPs, not guaranteed sale prices. Promotions, trade-in credits, bundles, retailer discounts, and LTE carrier deals can change the value calculation substantially.
| Model | Bluetooth MSRP | LTE MSRP |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch8 40mm | $349.99 | $399.99 |
| Galaxy Watch8 44mm | $379.99 | $429.99 |
| Galaxy Watch8 Classic 46mm | $499.99 | $549.99 |
The Classic costs $120 more than the comparable 44mm Watch8 at launch, or $150 more than the 40mm model. That premium is easy to justify if you use the bezel every day. It is difficult to justify on health tracking alone because the standard model has the same main platform and sensors.
Samsung announced the Watch8 family on July 9, 2025, with broad availability beginning July 25, 2025. For current pricing, check Samsung’s U.S. MSRP sheet and compare it with live sale prices. A discounted Watch8 Classic can make sense; a full-price unit sitting close to a newer Watch9 deserves more scrutiny.

What the Classic actually adds
A physical rotating bezel
The bezel is the reason to buy this watch. Turn it to scroll through tiles, notifications, menus, and workout screens; use it for more controlled navigation and volume adjustment; or rotate it when your fingers are wet, sweaty, gloved, or simply away from the touchscreen.
It also gives the watch a more deliberate physical interface. You can navigate without covering the display with a finger, and the bezel can wake or move through the interface in a way that feels closer to using a traditional watch crown. Reviewers at Wareable and Tech Advisor found the mechanism satisfying, although the bezel’s integration with the new case design is a matter of taste.
This is not a feature that improves heart-rate readings, GPS, sleep analysis, or app compatibility. Its value is practical and tactile. If you rarely use physical controls, it is expensive decoration.
Steel, a third button, and more storage
The Classic uses stainless steel instead of the standard Watch8’s Armor Aluminum. It looks and feels more substantial, though that substance is also the source of much of the comfort trade-off.
Samsung adds a customizable Quick Button below the usual Home and Back buttons. It can provide a faster route to a selected function or workout, giving the Classic three physical controls instead of two.
Storage doubles from 32GB on the standard Watch8 to 64GB on the Classic. That is useful for downloaded music, apps, and watch faces, especially if you use the watch away from your phone. The 64GB figure is installed capacity; usable space is lower after system software and preinstalled content.

The case is traditional in its steel, bezel, and watch-like proportions, but it is not a completely old-fashioned design. Samsung uses a cushion or squircle-shaped chassis visibly related to the Galaxy Watch Ultra. Some reviewers liked that tougher silhouette, while others thought it competed with the circular bezel rather than blending naturally with it.
Design and comfort: impressive, but not small
Samsung lists the Watch8 Classic at approximately 63.5g and 10.6mm thick. Tom’s Guide measured roughly 13.5mm in testing, while Tech Advisor also recorded about 63.5g and found the weight noticeable.
That makes the Classic substantially heavier than the standard Watch8, which weighs about 30g in 40mm form and 34g in 44mm form. The difference is obvious on a smaller wrist and can matter even on an average wrist if you sleep in your watch.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →It would be inaccurate to call the Classic universally uncomfortable. Comfort depends on wrist circumference, how tightly the band is worn, the supplied band, and whether you are accustomed to larger mechanical or outdoor watches. But it is a real trade-off: the Classic’s weight and thickness make it less effortless for overnight wear than the aluminum Watch8.
There is also no smaller Classic option. The Classic comes only in 46mm. The standard model gives buyers a 40mm case for smaller wrists and a 44mm case for those who want a larger watch without steel-classic bulk.
Check the strap situation before buying. Watch8 uses Samsung’s Dynamic Lug attachment system, so do not assume every older Galaxy Watch band will attach in exactly the same way. Samsung explains the attachment method in its Watch8 band instructions and provides additional band compatibility guidance.
The display is brighter, but the Classic does not have the biggest screen
Both Watch8 versions reach a claimed peak brightness of up to 3,000 nits, a significant improvement over the 2,000-nit figure Samsung lists for the Watch6 Classic. Reviewers found the display easy to read in direct sunlight.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePeak brightness is not the same as sustained brightness. The 3,000-nit number is a maximum claim under specified conditions, not a promise that the panel stays at that level continuously, in every watch face, or in every display mode.
The more surprising issue is screen size:
- The 40mm Watch8 has a 1.34-inch, 438×438 display.
- The 44mm Watch8 has a larger 1.47-inch, 480×480 display.
- The 46mm Watch8 Classic has a 1.34-inch, 438×438 display.
So the physically larger Classic does not have a larger screen than the 44mm standard Watch8. It also has a smaller display than the 47mm Galaxy Watch6 Classic, which used a 1.5-inch panel. That makes the Watch8 Classic a potential display downgrade for owners of the larger Watch6 Classic, despite its newer and brighter screen.
The bezel does give the Classic a generous visual border and makes the display feel purposeful, but it does not create more screen area. If you want the most readable text and largest maps or workout data within the Watch8 family, the 44mm standard model is the better choice.
Battery life: the Classic is best in the Watch8 family, not a multi-day watch
Samsung rates all three Watch8 sizes for up to 30 hours with Always-On Display enabled. The batteries are 325mAh in the 40mm Watch8, 435mAh in the 44mm Watch8, and 445mAh in the Classic.
The Classic’s battery advantage over the 44mm model is only 10mAh on paper, but independent tests have generally found it to be the endurance leader in the Watch8 family. Results vary considerably according to settings:
- Tom’s Guide measured roughly 40 hours from the Classic with AOD enabled and more than 50 hours with AOD disabled. Its standard Watch8 result was about 30 hours under its test conditions.
- Android Central found that the Classic could cover two nights of sleep tracking in its testing, but GPS, music, high outdoor brightness, and voice-assistant use reduced endurance.
- PhoneArena gave a more conservative day-to-day-and-a-half interpretation and recorded approximately 1 hour 24 minutes for a full charge in its charging test.
These are not contradictory measurements so much as different workloads. LTE use, continuous GPS, music streaming, a bright screen, AOD, voice wake-up, and sleep tracking can all change the result. Expect the Classic to be a roughly one-to-two-day watch rather than a watch you can forget to charge for several days.
Rank #3
- Signature Rotating Bezel: Physical rotating bezel provides precise, tactile navigation through apps, menus, and notifications.
The practical advantage is that the Classic gives you more margin for a workday, workout, and night of sleep tracking than the standard Watch8 in many conditions. It does not eliminate the need to plan charging, particularly if you use LTE or long GPS workouts.
Performance, storage, GPS, and durability
The Watch8 Classic uses Samsung’s five-core Exynos W1000, manufactured on a 3nm process, with 2GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The standard Watch8 uses the same processor and RAM, so the Classic is not faster simply because it costs more.

Both Watch8 versions support dual-frequency L1+L5 GPS. That is a meaningful hardware upgrade for positioning in challenging environments and is preferable to a basic single-frequency system. However, dual-frequency GPS is not infallible: Android Central still observed route drift in testing. Runners who need highly dependable training tracks should continue to consider a dedicated Garmin, Polar, or chest-strap setup rather than treating the Classic as a replacement for specialist equipment.
The Classic is available in Bluetooth and LTE versions. LTE can provide more independence from a phone, but it requires a separate carrier plan and the watch still needs initial phone pairing and setup.
Samsung lists 5ATM water resistance, IP68 dust and water resistance, and MIL-STD-810H testing. Those ratings are useful protection for ordinary wear, workouts, and exposure to water, but they do not make the watch indestructible or guarantee suitability for every water activity.
Health and fitness: nearly the same as the standard Watch8
The Classic’s health feature set is a reason to buy the Watch8 platform, not a reason to choose the Classic over the standard model. Both share the major sensors and software capabilities, including:
- Energy Score.
- Sleep stages, sleep consistency, blood oxygen measurements, sleep coaching, and Bedtime Guidance.
- FDA-authorized sleep-apnea risk detection.
- Running Coach and personalized heart-rate zones.
- Functional Threshold Power for cycling.
- Body composition, stress monitoring, cycle tracking, and broad workout tracking.
- ECG and irregular-heart-rhythm notifications.
- AGEs Index, Antioxidant Index, Vascular Load, swimming metrics, and VO₂ max estimates.
The Classic therefore does not buy better health readings than the standard Watch8. It may be easier to operate during a workout because the bezel works with wet fingers or gloves, but the sensor platform is fundamentally shared.
Important health limitations
Samsung’s health features should be treated as screening and wellness tools, not substitutes for medical care:
- Sleep-apnea detection looks for signs associated with moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. It is not a standalone diagnosis and does not replace a sleep study or clinician.
- ECG and irregular-rhythm notifications are not intended to replace clinical diagnosis or treatment.
- Samsung’s blood-pressure feature requires calibration with a separate cuff and periodic recalibration, including calibration every 28 days according to Samsung’s guidance.
- Availability can vary by country, carrier, watch model, paired phone, and regulatory approval.
- The Antioxidant Index estimates carotenoid levels in the skin through a thumb measurement. It is a wellness indicator, not a direct measurement of diet quality, disease, or overall antioxidant status.
Read Samsung’s Watch8 health disclaimers and compatibility table before buying for a specific medical or wellness feature.
Heart-rate and GPS accuracy are improved, not perfect
The Classic is well suited to everyday activity tracking, walking, general gym sessions, sleep monitoring, and casual running. Its hardware is more capable than older basic Galaxy Watch GPS systems, but marketing terms should not be mistaken for laboratory accuracy.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Android Central found that GPS could still drift away from the route and that heart-rate readings could lag a chest strap during hard efforts. That is a reasonable boundary for this watch: useful for general fitness and trends, but not the obvious choice for athletes who make training decisions from highly precise interval heart-rate data.
Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch, and Gemini
The Watch8 family launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung’s interface adds features such as the Now Bar, multi-information tiles, and revised notifications. The Classic’s bezel makes moving through those screens more pleasant than on a touch-only Watch8, but the software itself is not a Classic exclusive.

Samsung describes Watch8 as the first smartwatch with Gemini built in. Gemini can answer questions, manage tasks, and interact with supported apps. In practice, it is most useful for short commands and quick assistance from the wrist. Tom’s Guide found it more capable than the reviewer’s Apple Watch and Siri experience, but also found that it was not consistently useful for complex, personalized questions.
Gemini is not a completely offline feature. Its capabilities can depend on a compatible phone or connection, internet access, country, language, Google account, and device configuration. Samsung’s Watch8 support information has the current feature requirements.
Compatibility: Samsung phones get the fullest experience
The Galaxy Watch8 Classic does not work with an iPhone. Samsung’s newer Wear OS Galaxy Watches require Android and Google Play services.
Samsung Galaxy phones provide the most complete experience. The Watch8 product information specifies Samsung Galaxy phones running Android 12 or later, while exact compatibility and regional availability should be checked on Samsung’s current support page.
Other Android phones can pair through Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health, but important features are restricted or unavailable outside the Samsung ecosystem. Samsung’s compatibility table identifies ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, and sleep-apnea features as Samsung-phone limitations. Other Samsung-specific functions can also be affected, including camera control, reminders, certain calendar synchronization, Samsung Find, and suggested replies.
This is one of the most important caveats that short reviews miss. A reviewer using a Samsung phone may experience a more complete product than a buyer using a Pixel, OnePlus, or another Android phone. Confirm the features you actually need before assuming Android compatibility means feature parity.

Should Galaxy Watch6 Classic owners upgrade?
Not automatically. The Watch8 Classic is newer and more capable, but it is not a transformative upgrade in every respect.
Reasons to upgrade:
- The Exynos W1000 brings a newer five-core, 3nm platform.
- Storage rises to 64GB.
- The display reaches a claimed 3,000 nits rather than the Watch6 Classic’s 2,000-nit figure in Samsung’s comparison.
- Dual-frequency GPS improves the hardware specification.
- The Watch8 family adds newer health and software features, including Energy Score, Running Coach, AGEs Index, Antioxidant Index, Vascular Load, Gemini, and One UI 8 Watch features.
Reasons to keep the Watch6 Classic:
- The 47mm Watch6 Classic has a larger 1.5-inch display than the 46mm Watch8 Classic’s 1.34-inch panel.
- The official battery-life rating is not a dramatic generational leap.
- The older watch already has the rotating bezel and conventional circular design that define the Classic experience.
- The new Watch8 Dynamic Lug system may complicate assumptions about existing band compatibility.
Upgrade if you need the newer health platform, brighter display, improved positioning hardware, more storage, or clearly faster operation. If your 47mm Watch6 Classic is working well and your main reason to upgrade is simply wanting another rotating-bezel Samsung watch, wait for a steep discount or keep the Watch6 Classic.

Samsung announced the Galaxy Watch9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra2 on July 22, 2026, with U.S. availability beginning August 7. As of August 10, Watch9 is Samsung’s current mainstream model, with Bluetooth pricing starting at $379.99 and LTE pricing at $429.99.
Watch9 uses Snapdragon Wear Elite hardware, has a 390mAh battery, and adds features including Vitals, Heart Health Score, Fitness Index, and Daily Cardio Load. For someone buying a new Samsung smartwatch in 2026, it is the more current choice if the physical controls and steel styling of the Classic are not essential.

What about the Galaxy Watch Ultra2?
The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 is the alternative for demanding outdoor use and endurance, not traditional styling. Samsung lists an 800mAh battery, a 5,000-nit display, 10ATM water resistance, IP69K protection, and diving capability.
It is substantially larger and more expensive than the Classic, so it solves a different problem. Pick it for long outdoor activities and maximum battery capacity; do not buy it expecting the Classic’s circular bezel experience or understated watch design. Samsung’s launch announcement covers the Ultra2 specifications and positioning.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWho should buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic?
Buy it if:
- You want a physical rotating bezel and will use it every day.
- You prefer the look and feel of a traditional stainless-steel watch.
- A 46mm case fits your wrist comfortably.
- You want 64GB for music, apps, and watch faces.
- You value the Watch8 family’s best battery results and can accept roughly one to two days between charges.
- You use a Samsung Galaxy phone and therefore get the fullest health and ecosystem feature set.
- You find it at a substantial discount relative to Watch9.
Choose the standard Watch8 if:
- You have a small or average-size wrist.
- You prioritize overnight comfort and sleep tracking.
- You want the larger 44mm, 1.47-inch display.
- You want the same processor, sensors, GPS system, software, and major health features for less money.
- You prefer a lighter aluminum case.
- You do not care about physical navigation.
Skip or carefully qualify the Classic if:
- You expect true multi-day battery life.
- You are upgrading from a 47mm Watch6 Classic mainly to get a larger display.
- You need high-intensity training data comparable to a dedicated sports watch and chest strap.
- You use an iPhone.
- You use a non-Samsung Android phone and expect ECG, sleep-apnea detection, or every Samsung-specific feature to work.
- You are paying full MSRP while Watch9 is available at a similar price.
Buying checklist
- Check your phone first. Confirm Android version, Samsung Health Monitor availability, and the features supported in your country.
- Measure your wrist and consider sleep. The 63.5g steel Classic is not a small, invisible tracker. If you dislike substantial watches overnight, the standard Watch8 is safer.
- Decide whether the bezel is essential. If the answer is no, the Classic’s main premium disappears.
- Compare display size, not case size. The 44mm Watch8 has a larger screen than the 46mm Classic, and the Classic is smaller-screen than the 47mm Watch6 Classic.
- Compare the actual price. Use sale and trade-in pricing, not just MSRP. In 2026, include Watch9 in the comparison.
- Choose Bluetooth or LTE deliberately. LTE adds independence but also requires a carrier plan.
- Check bands before ordering. Watch8’s Dynamic Lug attachment system means older straps should not be assumed compatible without verification.
- Set realistic battery expectations. AOD, GPS, LTE, streaming, brightness, and voice-assistant use can all reduce endurance.
Final verdict
The Galaxy Watch8 Classic is a compelling specialist version of the Watch8, not a universally superior version. Its rotating bezel is precise, useful, and genuinely enjoyable; the stainless-steel case and Quick Button give it more watch character; and its 445mAh battery generally produces the best endurance in the Watch8 family.
But it is heavy, available only in 46mm, has a smaller display than the 44mm standard Watch8, and shares the standard model’s processor, sensors, health features, GPS, and software. The premium is for interaction and design, not a major leap in smartwatch capability.
Buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic if you specifically want the bezel and can wear the bulk. Otherwise, buy the lighter standard Watch8—or, for a new 2026 purchase, the newer Galaxy Watch9.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Galaxy Watch8 Classic have a bigger screen than the standard Galaxy Watch8?
No. The 46mm Watch8 Classic has a 1.34-inch, 438×438 display. The 44mm standard Watch8 has a larger 1.47-inch, 480×480 display. The Classic is also smaller-screen than the 47mm Galaxy Watch6 Classic, which has a 1.5-inch display.
Is the Galaxy Watch8 Classic compatible with iPhone?
No. The Watch8 Classic requires Android and Google Play services. Samsung Galaxy phones provide the fullest feature set; non-Samsung Android phones can lose access to features such as ECG, irregular-heart-rhythm notifications, sleep-apnea detection, and several Samsung-specific functions.
How long does the Galaxy Watch8 Classic battery last?
Samsung rates it for up to 30 hours with Always-On Display enabled. Independent tests ranged from roughly a day to a day and a half in conservative use to about 40 hours with AOD enabled and more than 50 hours with AOD disabled. GPS, LTE, streaming, brightness, and voice-assistant use can shorten those results.
Is the Galaxy Watch8 Classic a worthwhile upgrade from the Galaxy Watch6 Classic?
Only conditionally. The Watch8 Classic has a newer 3nm processor, 64GB storage, a brighter display, dual-frequency GPS, and newer health and software features. However, the 47mm Watch6 Classic has a larger display, the battery rating is not dramatically better on the newer model, and both have the rotating bezel. A discount or a specific need for the newer features makes the upgrade more convincing.
Does the Galaxy Watch8 Classic have better health tracking than the standard Watch8?
No major health advantage is established by the Classic’s design. Both Watch8 models share the main processor, health sensors, GPS system, and headline health features. The Classic’s bezel can make workout control easier, but it does not by itself improve sensor readings.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The Bottom Line
Buy the Galaxy Watch8 Classic for the bezel, steel case, Quick Button, and extra storage—not because it is automatically healthier or faster than the standard Watch8. For most buyers who do not need physical controls, the lighter 44mm Watch8 is better value, and the newer Galaxy Watch9 is the more current mainstream option in 2026.
