Choose based on your phone first: the Apple Watch SE 3 is the natural shortlist choice for an iPhone owner, while the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 is the Android-oriented option, particularly for Galaxy phone users. Neither is the universal winner. Fit, health features, cellular needs and the way you charge a watch every day can make the better choice clearer.
Start with your phone
Your existing phone is the most useful first filter. Apple positions the SE 3 within its watch ecosystem; Samsung’s 2025 interim report identifies the Galaxy Watch8 as a Wear OS 6 watch with One UI 8 Watch and Samsung Health integration. Check each manufacturer’s current compatibility and feature support for your exact phone and region before buying. The available specifications do not establish a complete compatibility matrix, so do not assume every feature works with every phone.

How the sizes compare
Both watches are offered in nominal 40mm and 44mm sizes, but those labels do not describe identical dimensions. Samsung reports the Galaxy Watch8’s overall measurements; Apple specifies SE 3 case height and width, plus display resolution. Weight figures below are manufacturer-reported GPS-model weights where specified.
| Model | Case dimensions | Display | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy Watch8 40mm | 42.7 × 40.4 × 8.6mm | 34.0mm Super AMOLED; 438 × 438 pixels | 30.0g |
| Galaxy Watch8 44mm | 46.0 × 43.7 × 8.6mm | 37.3mm Super AMOLED; 480 × 480 pixels | 34.0g |
| Apple Watch SE 3 40mm | 34 × 40 × 10.7mm | 324 × 394 pixels | 26.3g GPS; Apple lists GPS + Cellular separately |
| Apple Watch SE 3 44mm | 38 × 44 × 10.7mm | 368 × 448 pixels | 32.9g GPS; Apple lists GPS + Cellular separately |
These figures come from Samsung Electronics’ 2025 3Q Interim Report and Apple’s SE 3 specifications. The watches differ in shape as well as dimensions: the Galaxy Watch8 has a round display in a squarish cushion-shaped case, while the SE 3 has Apple’s rectangular watch design. If you plan to sleep in your watch, or have a narrow wrist, try the size on if possible; comfort depends on more than the millimeter label.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Samsung lists the Watch8’s display sizes and resolutions, while Apple specifies the SE 3’s display resolutions and always-on Retina OLED LTPO displays. Pixel counts alone do not establish which screen is easier for you to read, so consider the physical screen area and your preferred case shape.
Health and fitness features
Apple Watch SE 3
Apple lists heart-rate monitoring with high- and low-rate alerts, irregular-rhythm notifications, cycle tracking with retrospective ovulation estimates, sleep stages and a sleep score, sleep-apnea notifications, medication features, mindfulness and noise features. For workouts, Apple lists custom workouts, training load, heart-rate zones, VO₂ max, running metrics and multiple workout types. These are wellness and notification features, not a diagnosis or a guarantee of health outcomes.

Samsung Galaxy Watch8
Samsung’s corporate report establishes the Watch8’s Samsung Health and software-platform context, but it does not provide a complete, feature-by-feature health list or establish which health features are available in each region. If a particular metric or notification matters to you, confirm it for the exact Watch8 model, phone, software and country before purchase rather than inferring parity with Apple.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBattery: compare routines, not capacity with runtime
Samsung reports battery capacities of 325mAh for the Galaxy Watch8 40mm and 435mAh for the 44mm, but the cited report does not supply a matching runtime test. Apple rates the SE 3 for up to 18 hours of normal use and up to 32 hours in Low Power Mode; those are different use modes, not a like-for-like comparison with Samsung’s capacity figures.

Apple says its battery testing was conducted in July and August 2025 on pre-production SE 3 units paired with an iPhone and pre-release software. Its 18-hour normal-use routine included 300 time checks, 90 notifications, 15 minutes of app use and a 60-minute workout with Bluetooth music; the cellular routine included four hours of cellular connection. The separate 32-hour Low Power Mode routine included six hours of sleep tracking. Actual battery life varies with usage, configuration, network, signal and other factors. Apple also says fast charging can reach 80% in about 45 minutes under its stated test conditions.
In practical terms, choose the charging routine you are willing to maintain, not a supposed battery winner: the available figures do not establish which watch lasts longer under equivalent use.

GPS, cellular and ongoing cost
Apple offers the SE 3 in GPS and GPS + Cellular configurations. Cellular can let a watch stay connected away from its paired phone, but service may require carrier activation and a recurring plan. Check that your carrier supports the exact model in your country and account plan, then include activation and monthly service costs in your comparison. The specifications reviewed here do not establish current local prices or a comparable Samsung cellular-cost figure, so check current offers for the precise size and connectivity tier rather than relying on historical launch pricing.
Band fit and charging accessories
For Apple Watch SE 3, a September 2025 review reports that the 40mm model fits older Apple Watch bands up to 41mm, while the 44mm model belongs with larger band families. Confirm the supported case-size range for the particular band before ordering. Similar-looking sizes are not enough to guarantee fit.

The specifications considered here do not verify compatibility for a particular third-party Galaxy Watch8 charger. Check accessory compatibility at the product level instead of assuming a charger will work because it fits another watch.
Quick Recap
Which one should you buy?
- Choose Apple Watch SE 3 if you use an iPhone and want Apple’s listed sleep, heart-rate, cycle-tracking and workout features in a 40mm or 44mm watch. Decide whether GPS is enough or whether a carrier-supported cellular model is worth its ongoing cost.
- Choose Samsung Galaxy Watch8 if you use Android, especially a Galaxy phone, and want Samsung’s Wear OS 6 watch with Samsung Health integration. Verify support for the specific health features and services you care about in your region.
- Compare fit before choosing by size number. The watches’ case dimensions, display shapes and weights differ even when both are labeled 40mm or 44mm.
- Do not decide on battery claims alone. Apple publishes a tested runtime estimate; Samsung’s cited report provides battery capacity but not a matching runtime test.
