Samsung Galaxy Watch8, Watch8 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025): Complete lineup guide

Samsung’s 2025 smartwatch lineup combines one Wear OS and health platform with three distinct designs: the lightweight Watch8, rotating-bezel Watch8 Classic, and rugged LTE Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025).

Samsung’s 2025 smartwatch lineup is built around one software and health platform with three very different physical identities: the lightweight Galaxy Watch8 for everyday use, the Galaxy Watch8 Classic for traditional styling and a rotating bezel, and the rugged LTE-equipped Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) for outdoor and endurance use. Samsung announced all three at Galaxy Unpacked on July 9, 2025; preorders opened the same day and general availability began July 25.

The most important naming detail is that Samsung does not officially call the rugged model “Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra.” Its current U.S. product name is Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025), a refresh of the Ultra line rather than a separate eighth-generation Watch8 model.

The 2025 Galaxy Watch lineup at a glance

These watches share Samsung’s 2025 software direction, including Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch, Gemini integration, and a broad set of Samsung Health features. The main differences are size, materials, physical controls, storage, battery capacity, durability, and LTE availability.

Model Best for Sizes and connectivity Battery Storage U.S. MSRP as of June 2026
Galaxy Watch8 Everyday wellness and the lightest fit 40mm or 44mm; Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE 325mAh or 435mAh 32GB $349.99–$429.99
Galaxy Watch8 Classic Traditional styling and tactile navigation 46mm; Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE 445mAh 64GB $499.99–$549.99
Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) Outdoor use, endurance, LTE, and ruggedness 47mm LTE 590mAh 64GB $649.99

The prices above are U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail prices from Samsung’s June 2026 price sheet, not guaranteed checkout prices. Samsung’s live store pages may show temporary discounts, bundles, or trade-in credits. Launch prices were lower only in the sense that the lineup was introduced at specific starting prices: Watch8 began at $349.99 for Bluetooth and $399.99 for LTE, Watch8 Classic began at $499.99 and $549.99, and the Ultra launched at $649.99.

Galaxy Watch8: the everyday model

If you want the lightest, most conventional option, the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 is the lineup’s sensible default. It comes in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with Graphite or Silver finishes and Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE connectivity. The smaller version is better suited to smaller wrists and buyers who want less weight; the 44mm version provides a larger display and a higher-capacity battery without moving to the heavier Classic or Ultra.

Watch8 specifications

Specification 40mm 44mm
Weight 30.0g 34.0g
Battery 325mAh 435mAh
Display 1.34-inch, 438×438 1.47-inch, 480×480
Display type Sapphire crystal, Super AMOLED, full-color always-on display
Memory and storage 2GB memory, 32GB storage

Samsung reshaped the case into a rounded-square or cushion-like form derived from the earlier Ultra design. It also introduced Dynamic Lug bands, which are intended to help the watch sit more closely against the wrist and maintain sensor contact. Samsung says the Watch8 is 11% thinner than previous Galaxy Watches and reports improved comfort and stability in its own internal testing. Those are manufacturer claims rather than independent measurements, so they should not be treated as a substitute for hands-on testing.

The Watch8 uses Samsung’s five-core Exynos W1000 processor manufactured on a 3nm process. It has the same core sensor and software direction as the Classic, making the choice between the two more about physical design, size, controls, and storage than about choosing an entirely different health-tracking platform.

Galaxy Watch8 Classic: the traditional-watch alternative

The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic is aimed at buyers who specifically want a physical rotating bezel and a more conventional watch appearance. It is available only in a 46mm case, weighs 63.5g, and comes in Black or White. Its stainless-steel case and rotating bezel make it considerably more substantial than the standard Watch8.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The rotating bezel is the Classic’s defining control. It lets you move through menus, notifications, and lists without covering the display with a finger. Samsung also adds a Quick Button that can launch apps or start workouts. If tactile controls matter to you, these features justify the Classic’s premium more convincingly than its health functions do.

Specification Galaxy Watch8 Classic
Case size and weight 46mm, 63.5g
Case and finishes Stainless steel; Black or White
Display 1.34-inch, 438×438 sapphire-crystal Super AMOLED
Battery 445mAh
Memory and storage 2GB memory, 64GB storage
Connectivity Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or LTE
Special controls Rotating bezel, Quick Button, and 3D Hall sensor

The Classic retains the Watch8 platform: Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch, Gemini support, and the same general wellness and fitness features. Its extra storage is useful for apps and offline content, but it is not a claim that the Classic provides more accurate health data than the standard Watch8.

Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025): the rugged, outdoor-focused model

The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) is the choice for buyers who value battery capacity, LTE, titanium construction, dual-frequency GPS, and a more rugged design. It is a 47mm LTE watch with a grade-4 titanium case, sapphire crystal, 2GB of memory, 64GB of storage, and a 590mAh battery.

Samsung offers the Ultra in Titanium Gray, Titanium Silver, Titanium White, and the 2025-specific Titanium Blue finish. The larger battery and LTE connectivity make it more suitable for long workouts, outdoor navigation, and situations where carrying a phone is inconvenient. It is also the only model in this lineup offered exclusively as an LTE watch rather than in separate Bluetooth and LTE versions.

Ultra battery and durability claims

Samsung advertises up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and up to 48 hours in exercise power-saving mode. These are Samsung’s stated test and use claims, not a promise of ordinary mixed-use battery life. Actual endurance will depend on GPS, cellular connectivity, display settings, always-on behavior, notifications, music playback, sleep tracking, and workout frequency.

The Ultra’s listed durability profile is 10ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H. The Watch8 and Watch8 Classic are listed with 5ATM, IP68, and MIL-STD-810H. These ratings do not make the models interchangeable for every aquatic or extreme-environment activity. Review Samsung’s safety documentation for the specific activity, and do not interpret water-resistance ratings as permission for unrestricted diving.

What the three watches share

Processor, software, and connectivity

Watch8 and Watch8 Classic use the five-core 3nm Exynos W1000 processor. Both have 2GB of memory, while the standard Watch8 provides 32GB of storage and the Classic provides 64GB. The Ultra also has 2GB of memory and 64GB of storage, along with a 3nm processor.

The lineup launched with Wear OS 6 and One UI 8 Watch. Samsung and Google positioned the watches as the first smartwatches preloaded with Wear OS 6 and Gemini. Gemini can be opened by voice, through the side button, or from the app icon. Samsung says it can work with Samsung Health, Calendar, Reminder, and Clock.

Gemini availability and capabilities can vary by country, watch model, paired phone, language, Google account, and connectivity. Google’s Wear OS announcement also describes a rollout beginning July 9, 2025, so buyers should not assume that every Gemini function is identical in every market or on every compatible Android phone.

Samsung’s specifications list Bluetooth 5.3, 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi, NFC, and LTE on LTE models. The Watch8 and Classic specifications list L1+L5 dual-frequency GPS, while the Ultra is explicitly positioned around dual-frequency GPS for outdoor tracking. GPS accuracy and battery use will still vary with surroundings, satellite visibility, settings, and whether the watch is also using cellular service.

Sensor platform

The watches use Samsung’s BioActive Sensor, which combines optical biosignal sensing, electrical heart signals, and bioelectrical impedance analysis. Other listed sensors include temperature, accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, geomagnetic, and light sensors. The Classic additionally includes a 3D Hall sensor associated with its rotating bezel.

This common foundation is why the three models should not be viewed as three radically different health platforms. The Ultra’s premium is mainly about construction, battery, LTE, outdoor positioning, and durability. The Classic’s premium is mainly about its stainless-steel design, rotating bezel, Quick Button, and 64GB of storage.

Health and fitness features

Samsung’s 2025 software emphasis is on sleep, running, stress, and lifestyle guidance rather than one single headline sensor upgrade. The features can be useful for tracking trends and building routines, but Samsung describes them as general wellness and fitness tools. They are not substitutes for medical care or professional testing.

Sleep and recovery

  • Bedtime Guidance: analyzes sleep patterns, circadian rhythm, and sleep latency to recommend a bedtime window. Samsung says it uses three days of sleep analysis and requires compatible phone and software conditions.
  • Vascular Load: provides an estimate of vascular-system stress during sleep. It should be treated as a wellness insight, not a clinical vascular measurement.
  • Energy Score: combines available activity, sleep, and related data into a daily readiness-style score. It is useful as a trend indicator, not an objective medical rating of how capable you are on a particular day.
  • Sleep coaching: provides feedback intended to help users establish more consistent sleep habits.

Antioxidant Index

The Antioxidant Index estimates carotenoid levels using a five-second finger measurement. Samsung frames it as lifestyle guidance and notes that results can vary. It should not be described as a direct measurement of overall health, diet quality, or nutritional status, and it is not a diagnostic test.

Running Coach

Running Coach assigns a running fitness level from 1 to 10 and creates a training plan with real-time guidance. That makes the feature more useful to someone who wants structured progression than to someone who only wants a basic workout timer. As with any wrist-based coaching tool, the plan should be treated as guidance and adjusted for your fitness, injuries, and medical advice.

  • International Model No Warranty in the US. ONLY compatible with Android devices. Samsung Pay - Not Supported. NOT compatible with iPhone or iOS devices.

Sleep Apnea

Samsung says the Sleep Apnea feature can identify signs associated with a risk of moderate to severe sleep apnea. The important distinction is that it assesses risk; it does not provide a standalone diagnosis and does not replace polysomnography or evaluation by a medical professional. Availability varies by market and paired device.

More broadly, Samsung states that its health features are intended for general wellness and fitness purposes and are not intended to diagnose, treat, monitor, or manage a medical condition. Do not claim that the watch detects disease, measures nutrition precisely, or replaces medical care.

Compatibility: Android and Google Mobile Services are required

The Watch8 series is an Android-based product family. Samsung’s global specifications state that the watches work with phones running Android 12.0 or higher with more than 1.5GB of memory. Activation requires a smartphone that supports Google Mobile Services.

Samsung’s U.S. product information emphasizes Galaxy smartphones running Android 12 or higher, while broader Samsung documentation says the watches can also work with other Android phones through Galaxy Wearable and Samsung Health. That does not mean every feature or setting will be identical outside the Galaxy ecosystem. Samsung Health functions, Gemini capabilities, notifications, and account-dependent services can differ based on the phone, region, language, and software configuration.

There is no official launch basis for recommending these watches to iPhone users. Because activation and the companion software are Android-based, iPhone owners should not buy a Watch8, Watch8 Classic, or Ultra expecting Apple Watch-style cross-platform support.

Launch prices versus current U.S. pricing

Samsung opened preorders on July 9, 2025, and made the watches generally available on July 25. The launch prices were:

Model Launch price
Galaxy Watch8 40mm Bluetooth $349.99
Galaxy Watch8 40mm LTE $399.99
Galaxy Watch8 Classic Bluetooth $499.99
Galaxy Watch8 Classic LTE $549.99
Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) LTE $649.99

Samsung’s June 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet expands the Watch8 range to include the larger 44mm models: $349.99 for the 40mm Bluetooth model, $399.99 for the 40mm LTE model, $379.99 for the 44mm Bluetooth model, and $429.99 for the 44mm LTE model. The Classic remains listed at $499.99 for Bluetooth and $549.99 for LTE, while the Ultra remains listed at $649.99.

Do not confuse MSRP with the price you will actually pay. Samsung’s live Galaxy Watch pages may apply discounts or trade-in credits, and the Ultra product page has shown promotional pricing below its $649.99 MSRP. Promotions change, so verify the current offer, eligible trade-in device, warranty terms, and the exact model number before checkout. Before buying, compare current Samsung Galaxy Watch deals rather than relying on an old launch promotion.

Which Galaxy Watch should you buy?

Choose the Galaxy Watch8 40mm if:

  • You have a smaller wrist or prefer a less noticeable watch.
  • Low weight is more important than maximum screen size.
  • You want the least expensive entry point into the 2025 lineup.
  • You mainly need sleep, wellness, notifications, workouts, and everyday smartwatch functions.

Choose the Galaxy Watch8 44mm if:

  • You want a larger 1.47-inch display and a 435mAh battery.
  • You prefer the standard Watch8’s lighter case to the Classic’s 63.5g weight.
  • You want the everyday model without paying for the Ultra’s rugged construction and LTE-only configuration.

Choose the Galaxy Watch8 Classic if:

  • A physical rotating bezel is a deciding feature.
  • You prefer stainless steel and traditional watch styling.
  • You want the Quick Button for fast access to apps or workouts.
  • You value 64GB of storage and do not mind a larger, heavier 46mm case.

The Classic is not fundamentally a more capable health tracker than Watch8. Pay the premium for the controls, materials, design, and storage—not for an expectation of a completely different sensor platform.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Choose the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) if:

  • You need LTE without choosing a separate Bluetooth version.
  • You want the largest battery in the lineup.
  • Titanium, sapphire crystal, rugged durability, and outdoor-oriented bands matter to you.
  • You regularly run, hike, navigate, or train for long periods where battery and GPS capability are more important than a slim case.
  • You like the Titanium Blue option or the Ultra’s more substantial design.

The Ultra is difficult to justify solely for ordinary wellness tracking because the Watch8 and Classic provide the same broad software and sensor direction. Its value comes from the physical and endurance advantages.

Accessories and ownership considerations

Budget for accessories according to the exact model rather than assuming every Galaxy Watch item fits every case. The Watch8’s Dynamic Lug system, the Classic’s case and lug dimensions, and Ultra-specific outdoor bands can create compatibility differences. If you need one, check the model and size before ordering a Galaxy Watch8 replacement band, charging cable, case, or screen protector.

Charging accessories and protective items are especially easy to misidentify because product listings often group several Galaxy Watch generations together. Confirm the listed compatibility, connector, case size, and whether the accessory is intended for the standard Watch8, Classic, or Ultra.

A practical buying checklist

  1. Confirm your phone: use Android 12 or newer, verify Google Mobile Services, and check whether your preferred features work on your particular phone and in your country.
  2. Choose the case size: 40mm is the lightest option; 44mm offers more screen and battery; the Classic is 46mm; the Ultra is 47mm.
  3. Choose Bluetooth or LTE: Watch8 and Classic offer both; the Ultra is LTE. LTE can be useful away from your phone but generally costs more and requires compatible cellular service.
  4. Decide whether physical controls matter: choose the Classic if the rotating bezel and Quick Button are central to how you want to use a watch.
  5. Pay for ruggedness only when you need it: the Ultra’s titanium case, larger battery, LTE, and stronger listed water-resistance rating are its main reasons to cost more.
  6. Set realistic health expectations: use sleep, stress, running, and wellness features to monitor trends and guide habits, not to diagnose or rule out a medical condition.
  7. Recheck the deal: distinguish MSRP from a temporary sale and verify trade-in eligibility before placing the order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an official Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Ultra?

No. Samsung’s official U.S. naming for the 2025 rugged model is Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025). “Galaxy Watch 8 Ultra” is an informal shorthand and should not be treated as the product’s official name.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Can the Galaxy Watch8 series work with an iPhone?

The 2025 Watch8 series is Android-based and requires a compatible Android phone with Google Mobile Services for activation. Samsung’s launch material does not provide a basis for recommending Watch8, Watch8 Classic, or Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) to iPhone users.

Which 2025 Samsung watch has a rotating bezel?

The Galaxy Watch8 Classic has the returning physical rotating bezel. It also includes a Quick Button and a stainless-steel case. The standard Watch8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) are not the rotating-bezel choice in this lineup.

Does the Galaxy Watch8 diagnose sleep apnea?

No. Samsung describes Sleep Apnea as a risk-assessment feature for signs associated with moderate to severe sleep apnea. It is not a standalone diagnosis and does not replace professional evaluation or a sleep study.

What is the best Galaxy Watch8 model for battery life?

The Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) has the largest battery at 590mAh. Samsung advertises up to 100 hours in power-saving mode and up to 48 hours in exercise power-saving mode, but actual battery life varies with GPS, LTE, display behavior, and other settings. The 44mm Watch8 is the longer-lasting standard-model option compared with the 40mm version.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Samsung’s 2025 lineup is less about three separate smartwatch platforms than three different ways to wear the same generation of software and wellness features. Buy the 40mm or 44mm Galaxy Watch8 for the lightest everyday experience, the Watch8 Classic for its rotating bezel and traditional construction, and the Galaxy Watch Ultra (2025) only when LTE, titanium, ruggedness, GPS use, or maximum battery capacity justify the added size and price.
