Samsung and Google have publicly shown intelligent eyewear developed with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster. The first collections are scheduled for fall 2026 in select markets, but Samsung has not announced a firm release date or price. Despite the Android XR label, the announced glasses appear to be camera- and audio-first AI eyewear; an in-lens display has not been confirmed.
What Samsung has announced
Samsung and Google unveiled two eyewear styles on May 19, 2026, then presented additional production-design and hardware details at Galaxy Unpacked in London on July 22. Samsung describes the glasses as a phone companion for hands-free assistance, not a replacement for a smartphone. The first collections are scheduled for fall 2026 in select markets.
The partnership brings together four distinct roles: Samsung handles hardware engineering, device integration, and Galaxy ecosystem connectivity; Google provides the Android XR platform and Gemini experiences; Warby Parker and Gentle Monster contribute eyewear design and fashion expertise. The announcements describe collaboration and co-development, not Samsung ownership of either eyewear brand. Samsung and Google’s first-look announcement and Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked announcement provide the official details.
Two partner styles
The Warby Parker frame has a brown finish and subtly upswept brow line for a conventional everyday profile. The Gentle Monster design is black, with a slim frame, straighter upper rim, and softly rounded lower edges. Samsung says the collections will include multiple frame styles, colors, and lens options. That does not yet establish which prescription or specialty lenses will be offered in each market.

What the glasses are designed to do
Samsung’s announced use cases center on Gemini and phone-connected, hands-free assistance. The company has described features including:
- Voice access to Gemini, along with touch and gesture interaction.
- Navigation, route guidance, and location-aware recommendations.
- Live translation and translation of text on signs or menus.
- Reading or summarizing notifications and adding calendar events.
- Taking photos, sharing the wearer’s point of view during calls, and capturing information such as a whiteboard for organization in Notes.
These are announced features and demonstrations, not independent tests of a finished retail product. Samsung says functionality may change or vary by market; language availability and the precise feature set at launch have not been fully specified.

Are these display-equipped AR glasses?
Not based on the models announced so far. Samsung’s official descriptions identify a built-in camera, voice and touch controls, Gemini, and phone connectivity, but do not specify an in-lens display. Bloomberg characterized the first products as predominantly audio-based, with cameras for Gemini, and reported that display-equipped models were expected later. The first Warby Parker and Gentle Monster collections are therefore better described as camera- and audio-first AI smart glasses than as confirmed visual AR glasses. Bloomberg’s report on the unveiled designs makes that distinction.
“XR” is the broader Android platform category, covering extended-reality experiences such as augmented, virtual, and mixed reality. It does not mean every device using Android XR has a visual overlay. Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset is a separate, immersive product category; these partner eyewear designs are intended to look and function more like ordinary glasses with AI assistance.

Hardware, battery, and the phone connection
Samsung lists a built-in camera, touch interaction, and Qualcomm Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 platform. It claims up to nine hours of battery life per charge and up to seven additional full charges from the case. These are manufacturer figures, not independently verified endurance results. Samsung says battery life varies with network environment, features, apps, settings, and charging frequency; camera use, navigation, translation, and frequent AI queries may affect actual runtime.
The glasses are not described as standalone. Samsung’s announcement says some functions require a compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone, Samsung and Google accounts, and data or internet access. The company has not yet published a complete compatibility list covering specific phone models, Android versions, iPhone support, or the features that work offline. Readers should not assume the full experience will work with any Android phone.

Privacy needs more than an indicator light
A camera built into everyday-looking eyewear raises practical consent questions, particularly because other people may not recognize when the wearer is recording or using visual AI. Android Central reported that Samsung said recording will automatically stop if the privacy LED is covered or the glasses are not being worn. That safeguard is reported in Android Central’s pricing and privacy coverage; Samsung’s reviewed product announcements do not provide a complete privacy or data-processing explanation.
Before relying on the glasses in sensitive settings, buyers will need clear answers on what the LED indicates, how photo and video recording are signaled, whether Gemini can be used without sending images, where voice and visual data are processed or stored, and how recordings can be exported or deleted. An indicator does not resolve consent or venue rules: workplaces, schools, medical facilities, transit systems, and government sites may restrict recording.

Launch date, price, and what remains unknown
Samsung’s stated launch window is fall 2026 in select markets, but the July announcement did not set a specific day. The reviewed announcements also do not give a final retail price or a complete regional availability list. A July 27 Android Central report said Samsung described the price as “reasonable” within the premium segment; that is positioning, not a price. For comparison only, Android Central reported Ray-Ban Meta glasses starting at $300 in the United States at the time of that report, but the figure is dated and may change. Ray-Ban’s product page is the manufacturer’s current listing.
Samsung has also not established prescription-lens pricing or availability, supported lens types, replacement-frame costs, repair options, water resistance, or any subscription fees. Android Central’s production-design hands-on described non-functioning models, so it is not evidence of real-world battery life, camera quality, audio performance, or sustained comfort. The hands-on report notes that limitation.
