Samsung’s Galaxy Ring is not awaiting launch. Samsung formally announced it on July 10, 2024, launched it globally that month, and continues to sell it in the United States. The current story is the company’s continuing patent dispute with Oura—not a looming product debut.
As of August 18, 2026, the reviewed court record shows no injunction, exclusion order, recall, or other ruling requiring Samsung to withdraw the Galaxy Ring from U.S. sale. However, Samsung and Oura remain engaged in active patent litigation, with major case milestones currently scheduled for 2027.

Galaxy Ring launch timeline
Samsung first previewed the Galaxy Ring at a Galaxy showcase on January 17, 2024. It formally announced the product alongside the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 10, 2024, and later described July 2024 as the Ring’s global launch period.

Samsung’s U.S. store still listed the Galaxy Ring at $399.99 on August 18, 2026, in Titanium Black, Titanium Gold, and Titanium Silver. Samsung also offers a sizing-kit route, which is worth using before ordering: finger size is less forgiving than watch-band sizing, and a poor fit can affect comfort and sensor contact.

What the Galaxy Ring does
Samsung positions the Ring primarily as a wellness and health-monitoring device. Its stated capabilities include sleep tracking, heart-rate and heart-rate-variability measurements, blood-oxygen readings, movement tracking, and personalized insights delivered through Samsung Health.
The Ring is designed to work within Samsung’s wider wearable ecosystem rather than as an isolated gadget. It can complement a Galaxy Watch, particularly for passive monitoring and overnight wear, while the watch remains better suited to users who want a screen, workout controls, notifications, or live exercise information.
Some features, including Energy Score insights, require a compatible Samsung Galaxy AI phone, Samsung Health, and a Samsung account. Buyers should not assume that every feature works identically with a non-Samsung Android phone. Compatibility requirements can also change with software updates, so prospective buyers should confirm their exact phone model before purchasing.
Samsung lists a 10ATM water-resistance classification and an IP68 rating for the U.S. model. Those are manufacturer classifications, not a promise that the Ring is suitable for every aquatic activity or will remain indefinitely waterproof after wear, impact, or repair.
The Ring’s measurements and summaries are wellness information, not a medical diagnosis or a substitute for clinical equipment. Anyone using wearable data to make a health decision should discuss meaningful symptoms or concerns with a qualified clinician.

Oura is the established smart-ring company behind the legal dispute. Oura has asserted patents in disputes involving other smart-ring makers. In March 2024, it filed a complaint at the U.S. International Trade Commission against Circular, Ultrahuman, and RingConn, seeking an exclusion order over allegedly infringing imported rings.

Samsung’s initial complaint argued that some of Oura’s asserted patent claims covered features used broadly across smart rings. Oura CEO Tom Hale said in January 2024 that the company would monitor the Galaxy Ring and take appropriate action if it identified potential intellectual-property violations.
Those statements are part of the parties’ allegations and public positions. They are not a court finding that the Galaxy Ring infringes Oura patents.
Samsung’s first lawsuit was not a patent victory
Samsung moved first in the legal dispute. On May 30, 2024, it filed a declaratory-judgment action in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Samsung asked the court to declare that the Galaxy Ring did not infringe certain Oura patents.

That case did not produce a ruling on whether Samsung infringed Oura’s patents. The court granted Oura’s motion to dismiss Samsung’s declaratory case because the action could not proceed on the theory Samsung presented.
In practical terms, the dismissal ended that particular case. It did not establish that Oura won the underlying patent dispute, and it did not establish that Samsung’s Ring was non-infringing.

The active case is a separate lawsuit in Texas
The legal story continued in a different court. The active Samsung-Oura case is in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas under case number 2:25-cv-01181.

- Samsung filed a first amended complaint on March 13, 2026.
- Oura filed an answer and counterclaims on March 30, 2026.
- Earlier motions to dismiss were denied on March 17, 2026.
- Oura has filed renewed motions seeking dismissal of portions of Samsung’s claims.
- The docket currently schedules claim construction for June 14, 2027.
- Jury selection is currently scheduled for December 6, 2027.
Those are docketed dates, not guarantees that the proceedings will occur exactly as scheduled. Patent cases can be narrowed, settled, delayed, transferred, or resolved through motions before a jury trial.
Most importantly, the Texas case is not the dismissed California declaratory action. Treating them as one lawsuit creates the wrong impression that Oura already defeated Samsung on the patents or that Samsung has already won a definitive non-infringement ruling.
The Eastern District of Texas docket is the appropriate source for later schedule and filing changes.

Is the Galaxy Ring banned or unsafe to buy?
Nothing in the reviewed sources shows a current injunction, ITC exclusion order, recall, or other sales prohibition affecting Samsung’s U.S. Galaxy Ring. Samsung’s U.S. store continues to list the product for purchase.
A pending patent case does not automatically make a product illegal to buy or use. The more realistic uncertainty concerns the Ring’s long-term commercial position. Depending on the litigation’s outcome, Samsung and Oura could face damages, licensing negotiations, product changes, feature changes, or import and distribution consequences.
That does not mean any of those outcomes is certain. It means buyers should distinguish between:
- Current status: the Ring is an established product that remains listed for sale.
- Legal status: Samsung and Oura are still litigating patent claims.
- Future risk: later rulings or a settlement could affect future products, features, pricing, or distribution.
For an individual buyer, the immediate practical risks are more likely to involve compatibility, sizing, returns, support, and ecosystem fit than an imminent court-ordered removal.

Who should buy the Galaxy Ring now?
It makes the most sense for Samsung Galaxy users
The Galaxy Ring is most compelling for people already using Samsung phones and Samsung Health. The Ring can add passive sleep and wellness tracking without placing another screen on the wrist, and it can complement rather than replace a Galaxy Watch.

Samsung’s U.S. listing reviewed for this article showed a one-time hardware price of $399.99 and no separate Galaxy Ring data subscription. That pricing advantage should be considered over the intended ownership period, although promotions, protection plans, regional pricing, and store policies can change.
Wait or compare first if you need platform flexibility
Buyers outside Samsung’s ecosystem should verify phone compatibility and feature availability before ordering. A generic “Android compatible” label may conceal limitations in Samsung Health, Galaxy AI, account requirements, or specific insights.
Oura remains the most direct comparison for buyers who prioritize an established sleep- and readiness-focused software experience. Its hardware and membership terms should be checked on Oura’s current official store before purchase. RingConn and Ultrahuman are other smart-ring alternatives, but current prices, availability, subscription policies, and feature support should likewise be verified directly with those manufacturers.

Do not buy it as medical equipment
If you need clinically validated monitoring, diagnostic capability, or a device prescribed for a medical condition, the Galaxy Ring is the wrong category of product. Its health summaries can be useful for observing trends, but they are not a replacement for medical evaluation.
Questions to answer before ordering
- Will it work fully with your phone? Confirm the exact model and Samsung Health requirements, especially for Energy Score and Galaxy AI-related features.
- Have you used the sizing kit? A ring cannot be adjusted like a watch strap, and finger size can vary during the day.
- Do you want a ring or a watch? The Ring is strongest for unobtrusive, passive tracking; it is not a replacement for a watch display and controls.
- How important is long-term platform stability? The active litigation adds uncertainty to future products and features, even though no current sales ban was identified.
- What are the return terms? Samsung’s U.S. product page indicates that a 5% restocking fee may apply in some circumstances. Check the current terms before buying.
- What happens if you need service? Confirm current repair, replacement-size, charging-case, and support options for your region.
The bottom line for buyers
Samsung did not merely confirm an upcoming Galaxy Ring launch: it launched the product in 2024, expanded its availability, and still sells it. The important update is that the Oura conflict has developed into active patent litigation.
The dismissed California case was a procedural defeat for Samsung’s attempt to obtain a pre-emptive declaration; it was not a final infringement ruling. The separate Texas case remains active, with claim construction and jury selection currently scheduled in 2027.
For now, the Galaxy Ring remains available and there is no reviewed evidence of a current U.S. sales ban, recall, or withdrawal. Samsung Galaxy owners who value Samsung Health integration can reasonably consider buying it, provided they confirm compatibility and sizing. Buyers who need platform flexibility, medical monitoring, or certainty about the product’s long-term legal future should compare alternatives or wait for further developments.
