The rollout is no longer new: Samsung began delivering One UI 6 Watch, based on Wear OS 5, to U.S. Galaxy Watch6 and Galaxy Watch6 Classic owners in November 2024. The update first reached some U.S. beta participants in October, Samsung announced the wider rollout on November 19, and U.S. availability for Bluetooth and LTE models was reported on November 26.
Galaxy Watch6 owners who have not installed it should check the Galaxy Wearable app. The update adds new health and fitness tools, watch faces, suggested replies, and gesture controls—but it does not give the Watch6 the newer hardware found in later Galaxy Watch models.
What One UI 6 Watch means
One UI 6 Watch is Samsung’s interface and feature layer for its smartwatches. Wear OS 5 is the underlying Google-Samsung smartwatch platform. This is not the same as Samsung’s phone software called One UI 6.
The Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic originally shipped with Wear OS 4 and One UI 5 Watch. One UI 6 Watch brought selected software features from newer Galaxy Watch models to the Watch6 series. Samsung’s implementation is not identical to stock Wear OS 5 on another manufacturer’s watch.

- Rotating Bezel Design: Classic rotating bezel enables precise control and smooth navigation.
Samsung’s rollout announcement covered the Galaxy Watch6, Watch6 Classic, Watch5, Watch5 Pro, Watch4, Watch4 Classic, and Galaxy Watch FE. The Watch6 series was scheduled to receive the update first, with older models following sequentially. Timing varied by country, carrier, model, and software channel.
U.S. rollout details
- October 2024: Stable software began reaching some U.S. Galaxy Watch6 owners who had joined the beta program.
- November 19, 2024: Samsung announced the wider One UI 6 Watch rollout.
- November 26, 2024: U.S. availability was reported for Bluetooth and cellular Galaxy Watch6 and Watch6 Classic models.
The U.S. rollout report listed firmware versions R945USQU1BXJ5 for the Galaxy Watch6 and R965USQU1BXJ5 for the Watch6 Classic. It reported a download of approximately 1.8GB and an October 2024 security patch. Those details describe that rollout; they should not be treated as the size or firmware number of every later package. See SamMobile’s U.S. rollout report.
What the update adds
Energy Score
Energy Score combines information such as sleep, activity, sleeping heart rate, and sleeping heart-rate variability into a daily wellness indicator. Samsung says it requires a compatible Galaxy AI phone, Samsung Health, and a Samsung account.
Energy Score is for general wellness and fitness. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, monitor, or manage a medical condition.

- Larger Super AMOLED Display: Expanded screen area with slimmer bezels for improved visibility and usability.
More detailed sleep information
One UI 6 Watch expands sleep analysis with metrics including movement during sleep, sleep latency, heart rate, and respiratory rate. Samsung also expanded Sleep Apnea availability to additional Galaxy Watch models, although access depends on the market, device, software, and regulatory authorization.
Sleep Apnea detection is a regulated health feature where available and is not a substitute for medical evaluation.
Race
Race compares a current running or cycling effort with a previous performance. Comparisons work under compatible conditions, including starting from the same location as the earlier route.

Workout Routine lets users combine exercises into customized routines designed around their goals, rather than starting each exercise separately.

- Rotating Bezel Design: Classic rotating bezel enables precise control and smooth navigation.
New watch faces
Samsung highlighted new faces including Simple Digital and Ultra Info Board. The available faces can vary by model and software version.
Suggested replies
Suggested replies provide AI-generated response options from the watch when it is paired with a compatible Galaxy smartphone. A compatible phone and Samsung account are required, and availability may vary by market and software.
Double Pinch
Double Pinch can perform actions such as answering calls, dismissing alarms, and controlling a paired phone’s camera. It is off by default and must be enabled on the watch or in Galaxy Wearable.
Samsung says Double Pinch requires a Galaxy smartphone running One UI 6.1.1 or later. Owners using a non-Samsung Android phone may receive the operating-system update but not every Samsung ecosystem feature.

How to install One UI 6 Watch
Update through your phone
- Connect the watch to the phone through Bluetooth.
- Open Galaxy Wearable.
- Open the Settings tab, if your app version shows one.
- Tap About watch or About band.
- Tap Update watch software.
- Choose Update now or Download updates manually.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Samsung notes that labels vary by watch model and software version. A network connection is required. The official route is documented on Samsung’s watch software update support page.
Update from the watch
Wear OS-based Galaxy Watch models may also allow the update to begin directly on the watch. The exact menu wording depends on the installed software version.
Before installing
- Charge the watch sufficiently or place it on its charger.
- Use a stable Wi-Fi or phone connection.
- Keep the phone and watch close together.
- Make sure there is enough storage space.
- Do not interrupt the installation or restart the watch while it is updating.
The reported 1.8GB package means the initial download could take some time. Later builds may be smaller or larger.
Why the update may not appear
- Check the exact model. Watch6 and Watch6 Classic are eligible, but carrier and product-code variants can follow different schedules.
- Update Galaxy Wearable. Also update the relevant watch plugin through the phone’s app store.
- Restart both devices. Then reconnect Bluetooth and reopen Galaxy Wearable.
- Check manually. Go to About watch → Update watch software.
- Try a stronger connection. Use reliable Wi-Fi if the download fails or stalls.
- Check watch storage. Remove unnecessary downloads or apps if space is limited.
- Contact Samsung. If the watch remains on an unexpectedly old build, check Samsung Support or Samsung Members.
Do not factory-reset the watch as a first response. A reset removes local data and should be considered only after backing up and exhausting simpler fixes. Samsung’s support guidance also warns that available menus vary by model and software version.

Bluetooth, LTE, and phone compatibility
The U.S. report covered both Bluetooth and cellular versions of the Watch6 series, but that does not guarantee that every Bluetooth and LTE model receives an update on the same day. Carrier approval and product-code differences can affect timing.
The Watch6 originally supported Android 10 or later and phones with at least 1.5GB of memory. Individual features have stricter requirements. Energy Score, Suggested replies, Double Pinch, Samsung Health functions, and some health features may require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone, Samsung account, specific app versions, or local regulatory approval.
What One UI 6 Watch does not change
This update does not turn a Galaxy Watch6 into a Watch7, Watch8, or Watch Ultra. Software cannot add newer sensors, processors, physical durability, battery capacity, or hardware-specific capabilities.
For an owner whose Watch6 works well, installing One UI 6 Watch is the sensible first step and does not require a purchase. Consider new hardware separately if battery life, sensors, performance, durability, or future software support are the real concerns—not simply because Wear OS 5 is available on newer watches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is One UI 6 Watch still rolling out to the Galaxy Watch6 in the U.S.?

No. Availability can depend on the watch model, carrier, market, paired phone, Samsung account, app version, and regulatory approval. Several features also require a compatible Samsung Galaxy phone.
