A March 2025 rumor said Samsung might introduce bone-conduction or open-ear headphones alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 in July. That did not happen: Samsung announced the Fold7 and other devices on July 9, 2025, without the headphones. Later leaks revived the possibility of a related clip-on product, but Samsung has not confirmed its name, audio technology, price, or release date.
What the 2025 rumor claimed
Reports published in March 2025 said Samsung’s mobile division was preparing a new wireless audio product, allegedly codenamed “Able.” The predicted launch window was July, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7. The reporting traced the claim to tipsters rather than an official Samsung announcement; coverage differed on whether the original attribution was Ice Universe or Digital Chat Station. TechSpot’s report and SamMobile’s report illustrate the mixed terminology.
The rumored product was variously described as bone-conduction headphones, wireless open-ear headphones, or Open Wireless Stereo (OWS) headphones. The reports did not establish that it used bone conduction, and they gave no confirmed specifications, price, product image, or sales markets.
Samsung did not launch them with the Galaxy Z Fold7
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, Galaxy Z Flip7 FE, and Galaxy Watch8 series at Galaxy Unpacked on July 9, 2025. Its official launch materials did not list Able or any bone-conduction or open-ear headphones. Samsung said the Fold7 became generally available in the United States on July 25, 2025. Samsung’s U.S. announcement and global Fold7 announcement document the lineup and dates.

That makes the July 2025 launch prediction wrong. It does not establish that Samsung canceled the product: Samsung has not publicly confirmed whether the alleged project was canceled, delayed, renamed, or remains in development.
Bone conduction is not the same as open-ear audio
Bone-conduction headphones transmit sound as vibrations through contact with the bones around the ear, leaving the ear canal open. Open-ear earbuds usually place small conventional speakers near the ear rather than inside the canal. Both formats can leave users more aware of their surroundings than sealed in-ear earbuds, but an open-ear design is not necessarily bone conduction.

- 【Long Term Battery Life】 Built-in large-capacity battery life of up to 10 hours, to meet the needs of sports, commuting and other uses throughout the day. The wireless headphones supports safe and stable Type-C fast charging.
- 【With Safety in Mind】 Open ear bone conduction headphones ensure that you can stay aware of your surroundings while enjoying your favorite audio. Compared to traditional in-ear or over-ear headphones, the level of safety is enhanced.
- 【Bone Conduction Headphones with Mic】Experience the freedom of wireless technology and enjoy seamless music playback with Bluetooth 5.4. The noise-cancelling feature ensures crystal-clear sound during hands-free calls, making it perfect for remote video conferences and long business meetings.
- Potential benefits: An unobstructed ear canal can suit people who dislike in-ear tips and can help preserve awareness of nearby sounds during exercise or commuting.
- Trade-offs: Open designs generally provide less isolation in noisy places, may leak more sound, and can deliver less bass impact than sealed earbuds. Fit and pressure points vary by person.
- Safety: Hearing nearby traffic is not a substitute for attention or hearing protection. Open-ear headphones do not make road use risk-free.
Later reporting about Samsung’s alleged clip-on design raised the possibility of ordinary speaker drivers rather than bone conduction. Until Samsung confirms the technology, “open-ear” is the safer description for any possible successor to the rumor. SamMobile’s coverage of the alleged design discusses that distinction.
What later leaks say about Able and Galaxy Buds On
In 2026, leak reports revived the product idea. “Galaxy Able” reportedly appeared in Galaxy Wearable-related app code, and later coverage suggested “Galaxy Buds On” as a possible name for a clip-on or outer-ear device. One report cited the model number SM-U600. These remain leak claims, not confirmed product details; an app reference can suggest development without proving a launch, final name, or retail availability. Android Central’s report covers the possible name, while SamMobile reported that the product was not expected at the July 22, 2026 Unpacked event and might arrive later.

What remains unknown
- The retail name and whether Able is a codename for a real commercial product.
- Whether the design uses genuine bone conduction, conventional open-ear speakers, or another approach.
- Battery life, water resistance, charging method, Bluetooth version, codec support, and controls.
- Compatibility with iPhones and non-Samsung Android phones, as well as any Galaxy-only features.
- Price, release date, and the countries where it might be sold.
Those details cannot be inferred from a rumored model number, app string, or leaked design images. Regulatory filings, Samsung support pages, retailer listings corroborated across markets, or an official Samsung announcement would be stronger evidence of a product moving toward sale.

What to buy or consider instead
For bone-conduction headphones now
Shokz sells established bone-conduction alternatives, which are not Samsung ecosystem accessories. Its OpenRun Pro 2 page lists a 12-hour battery life, IP55 sweat resistance, 30.3-gram weight, USB-C charging, and a $179.95 price signal observed during the August 2026 research period. Shokz’s comparison display showed the OpenRun at $129.95, with eight-hour battery life, 26-gram weight, and IP67 water resistance; Shokz says it is not intended for swimming. The same display showed the OpenSwim Pro at $229.95, with Bluetooth and onboard MP3 playback, nine hours of Bluetooth battery life, and IP68 waterproofing. Prices can change, so check the official page before buying.
For a Samsung-branded alternative
Samsung’s confirmed Galaxy Buds4 and Buds4 Pro are conventional earbuds, not bone-conduction headphones. They may make sense for listeners who prioritize Galaxy integration and in-ear audio, but they do not provide the same open-ear format. Samsung’s March 3, 2026 compatibility document includes the Galaxy Z Fold7 among supported devices for applicable Buds4 features, including high-resolution audio and head gestures.

Should you wait for Samsung?
Wait only if Samsung integration is your priority and you are comfortable with an uncertain product and timeline. Neither option confirms that Samsung will release an Able or Buds On product.
