Its closest standard counterpart is the black-dial HBF001. The main differences are color, design details, and production status—not a stated upgrade to the core dive specifications: Seiko lists both with the 8L45 movement and a 300 m diver’s rating.
Which Seiko Marinemaster models are being compared?
For a current-model comparison, the references are the HBF003 Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Save the Ocean Limited Edition and the HBF001 Marinemaster 1968 Heritage Diver’s Watch. Seiko lists both in its current Marinemaster lineup. The Marinemaster is Seiko’s flagship series for diver’s watches, according to the company.

“Save the Ocean” is not one permanent model name. Seiko also used it for earlier SLA055 and SLA057 watches, which are separate blue-dial limited editions from the 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation line. Their differences from HBF003 are covered below.

Is HBF003 a different watch or just a different dial?
It is a distinct limited-edition reference, not simply an HBF001 dial variant. HBF003 has its own model code, mangrove-inspired green design, pink-gold-colored seconds hand, and 900-piece limit. But the official specifications show the same central movement and core water-resistance rating as HBF001. The available specifications do not establish that HBF003 is a more capable diver.
The practical choice is therefore primarily about appearance and edition status. HBF003 suits someone who wants the distinctive green treatment and a limited run; HBF001 is the black-dial continuous-production option. Seiko’s product page does not quantify a conservation impact for HBF003, so the edition’s environmental theme should not be read as evidence of a specific conservation outcome.

Does HBF003 cost more than HBF001?
Seiko’s Philippine-market HBF003 listing gives a price of PHP 231,100. Seiko’s March 2026 US announcement gives HBF001 a recommended retail price of $3,600, but does not state a US price for HBF003. These are different markets and the sources do not provide a like-for-like price comparison; do not infer a US HBF003 price from them.
HBF002 is a separate JAMSTEC collaboration model. Its US price is not a price for HBF003. Current stock and availability are not established by the cited product information.

How does HBF003 differ from older Save the Ocean Marinemasters?
The older SLA055 and SLA057 are 2021-era 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation editions, not alternate names for HBF003. Seiko describes their blue gradients and patterned dials as inspired by Antarctica and blue ice. They use Caliber 8L35, and Seiko specifies Ever-Brilliant Steel for their case, bezel, and crown.

Seiko’s official pages for the older references are SLA055 and SLA057. If a listing or watch has the blue Antarctic styling and an SLA055 or SLA057 model code, it is an older Save the Ocean edition, not the current green HBF003.
