A “panda” chronograph typically has a light dial—usually white—with dark contrasting subdials. That describes a dial style, not a particular movement or case design. Three official examples show how different watches can look related on the dial but wear and operate quite differently: Seiko’s Speedtimer Solar Chronograph, Citizen’s Tsuno Chrono AN3700-62A, and Tissot’s PRX Chrono T137.427.11.011.00.
What makes a chronograph a panda?
In conventional watch terminology, a panda dial pairs a light background with dark subdials. Seiko defines the nickname as chronograph dials “featuring a white background with contrasting black sub-dials” on its Power Design Project page. The exact colors and layout still matter: a white dial alone does not establish that a watch is a traditional panda, and colorways can differ within the same model family.

Seiko’s page also explores a deliberately panda-inspired design, including pink alongside black and white. That creative concept is distinct from the familiar monochrome shorthand used to describe the three chronographs below.

Which one suits your priorities?
Choose by dial, not just by family name
“Panda” is a visual description, not a standardized model specification. Seiko’s 2024–2025 Japan catalog includes several Speedtimer Solar Chronograph references with different dial and bezel colors; verify the specific reference and image before deciding it has the classic white-and-black contrast. Citizen explicitly describes the AN3700-62A as a white-dial chronograph with black subdials. Tissot calls the cited PRX Chrono a panda-dial watch and gives it a 3-6-9 counter arrangement.

Choose the movement experience you want
The cited Seiko Speedtimer is solar-powered, the Citizen Tsuno is quartz, and the Tissot PRX is automatic. Those are different ways of powering and operating a watch, but the available specifications do not provide a like-for-like independent accuracy or ownership-cost test. Compare the movement type as a preference rather than assuming one is universally superior.
Choose for the wrist, not the diameter alone
The Citizen’s stated 38 mm case is the smallest explicit diameter among these examples. The Tissot is 42 mm wide and 14.54 mm thick, while dimensions vary across the cited Seiko references. Diameter cannot settle fit by itself: thickness, lug span, bracelet articulation and how the case sits on your wrist also matter. Try on the exact reference where possible, particularly before choosing the notably larger and thicker PRX Chrono.

- SEIKO Prospex
- Item shape: Round
- Power source type: Solar Powered
- Seiko Prospex
Tissot lists a 13 mm lug width for the PRX Chrono, but that figure alone does not confirm compatibility with a particular replacement strap; check the exact watch and strap reference. For a different Tissot option, the official PR516 40 mm listing supports a white-dial quartz chronograph, 100 m water resistance, a 20 mm lug width and quick-release bracelet information. Its listed details do not confirm black subdials, so it is an adjacent white-dial chronograph rather than a verified panda alternative.
Read water-resistance figures as specifications, not activity advice
The cited Citizen is rated to 50 m, the Tissot to 100 m and the Seiko catalog entries to 10 bar. These are manufacturer specifications, not blanket recommendations for every water activity. Check the specific model’s manual and manufacturer guidance for its intended use.

Check the exact reference and local listing before buying
The figures above come from manufacturer pages and a regional catalog, not independent performance testing. Catalog inclusion is not proof that a Seiko reference is currently available, and the Citizen page’s sold-out status and Tissot’s displayed US price can change. Confirm the exact reference, dial, local price, stock status and included bracelet or strap with the manufacturer or seller in your market. Do not carry prices or availability from one country’s listing into another.
