What are the SPB127J1, SPB131J1 and SPB129J1?
They are the three references Seiko grouped in its Presage 2020 Limited Edition. Seiko describes the collection as a three-hand mechanical watch with calendar, inspired by the design of the 1964 Crown Chronograph. The edition quantity is 1,964 pieces, a number linked to the year of the inspiration; it is Seiko’s stated production limit, not a count of watches still available or surviving. Seiko’s collection page lists February 2020 availability and identifies the campaign as over.
Is the SPB127J1 a chronograph?
No. It has a three-hand display, date, and stop-seconds function; Seiko does not list a stopwatch function for the SPB127J1. The chronograph connection is historical and visual, not a function of these Presage models. Seiko describes the Crown Chronograph as Japan’s first wristwatch with a stopwatch function, developed in 1964 for the first international sports event held in Japan. It also says the original one-push chronograph used a pillar wheel. Those historical details are Seiko’s account on its collection page.
What is different about the three references?
Seiko’s collection page names all three models, but its textual description does not establish a dependable dial-color-to-reference mapping. Verify a particular reference against its model-specific product page and photographs rather than assuming the dial from a general collection description. The pages for SPB131J1 and SPB129J1 identify them as Presage 2020 Limited Edition models and show key specifications; their regional pages are for the Philippines, so locale-specific details should not be treated as global terms.

Seiko lists an anti-reflective coating on the inner surface of the sapphire crystal for SPB127J1. It lists 10 bar water resistance as a manufacturer specification; that rating alone does not establish whether a particular water activity is suitable for a specific watch or its current condition.

What design details connect the collection to the Crown Chronograph?
Seiko says the Presage design reproduces elements of the 1964 watch, including clearly defined Arabic numerals on a narrow bezel and fine minute gradations on the dial. The collection page describes an inwardly tilted case intended to sit securely on the wrist, Lumibrite on the indexes for legibility in day and night conditions, and anti-reflective coating on the inner surface of the sapphire glass. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent wear or visibility tests.
Seiko says the caseback is marked “Limited Edition” and carries a serial number in the range 0001/1964 through 1964/1964. For a specific pre-owned watch, check that the serial inscription and the rest of the caseback are visible in clear listing photographs; the edition statement does not establish provenance or authenticity on its own.

What movement is in the SPB127J1?
Seiko specifies its caliber 6R35, an automatic movement that can also be wound manually. The manufacturer lists approximately 70 hours of power reserve, 24 jewels, stop-seconds and a date display. Its published precision specification is +25 to -15 seconds per day. These are Seiko’s stated specifications, not results from an independent accuracy test or a guarantee of the performance of an individual watch today.
Can you still buy one?
Seiko’s 2020 collection campaign is marked over; that establishes the status of the campaign, not whether an authorized retailer or secondary-market seller currently has one. The official material cited here does not establish current stock, resale prices, or the number of surviving examples. Check live listings for the exact reference and evaluate each watch individually.

- Confirm the reference on the listing and, where possible, on the watch and documentation.
- Compare the dial and case details with model-specific Seiko material; do not rely on a collection-level image alone.
- Inspect clear photographs of the caseback, including the limited-edition inscription and serial number. Ask about provenance and supporting documentation.
- Check the seller’s reputation, return terms, service history, condition, and whether the listing includes the box and papers. These details vary by individual watch.
- Compare current asking prices for the same reference and condition. The 1,964-piece edition limit is not evidence of a particular market value.
Will a 20 mm strap fit?
Seiko lists a 20 mm lug width for SPB127J1, and its product pages show the same width for SPB131J1 and SPB129J1. A strap advertised as 20 mm is a starting point, not a complete fit guarantee: confirm the attachment and spring-bar details for the specific watch and strap before ordering. No particular strap is tested or endorsed here.
