The Seiko Presage Sharp Edged Series SPB305 and SPB311 are distinct 2022 models, not simply two dial colors. The SPB305 pairs day, date and power-reserve indicators with Seiko’s 6R21 movement and a steel bracelet; the SPB311 has an open-heart aperture, the 6R38 movement, a stated 70-hour power reserve and a calf strap.

How the movements and dials differ
SPB305: day, date and reserve display
The SPB305’s 6R21 shows the day and date as well as the movement’s remaining power reserve. Its 45-hour reserve is Seiko’s published specification. This layout suits someone who wants those calendar indications and a visible reserve indicator on the dial.
SPB311: open-heart display and longer stated reserve
The SPB311 uses the 6R38, with an aperture that exposes part of the movement rather than the SPB305’s day, date and power-reserve displays. Seiko specifies a 70-hour reserve. That is 25 hours longer than the manufacturer-stated figure for the SPB305, but it does not by itself establish real-world accuracy or performance in wear.

The movements also differ in stated beat rate and jewel count: Seiko lists 28,800 vibrations per hour and 29 jewels for the 6R21, versus 21,600 vibrations per hour and 24 jewels for the 6R38. These specifications describe the calibers; they do not establish which watch will keep better time on an individual wearer’s wrist.
Case, finish and wearing configuration
Both watches have a 40.2 mm case diameter, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, screw see-through case back, 10-bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance in Seiko’s 2022 specifications. The SPB305 is 12.2 mm thick; the SPB311 is 11.8 mm thick.

Seiko says the non-GMT watches introduced in the 2022 Sharp Edged Series share a revised case design: a mirror-finished facet between the top and sides, with the case tapering inward. Both dials use the collection’s Asanoha, or hemp-leaf, pattern, which Seiko connects to Japanese textile tradition and symbolism of health and vitality.
The most immediately visible practical difference beyond the dials is the attachment: SPB305 comes on a stainless-steel bracelet, while SPB311 is specified with a calf strap. The official specifications do not establish lug width or third-party strap compatibility, so check the exact watch’s fitment before buying a replacement strap.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the SPB305 if you want day and date indications, an on-dial power-reserve display, a white Geppaku dial or the supplied steel bracelet.
- Choose the SPB311 if you prefer an open-heart display, the indigo-blue Aisumi dial, a calf strap or Seiko’s longer stated power reserve.
Neither specification sheet establishes a universal winner for comfort, finishing quality relative to other watches, current value or timekeeping in everyday use. Those judgments depend on preference and, for fit and feel, trying the watch on.

Seiko listed the SPB305 at a US retail price of $1,100 in its March 2022 release. That is historical launch pricing, not a current MSRP or a guarantee of what a retailer charges now. The cited release does not give a corresponding SPB311 price.

Seiko’s collection page records both J1 references as available in June 2022; that is launch-era availability, not evidence of current stock. For a purchase, verify the exact reference suffix, condition, seller, current price and availability directly with the retailer.
