What is the Seiko Presage SPB437?
Seiko identifies the SPB437 as the Presage Craftsmanship Series Studio Ghibli Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Collaboration Limited Edition. The manufacturer’s product page lists an edition of 1,500 pieces and an availability date of March 2024. Those are launch details, not confirmation that the watch can still be bought new today. How does the design refer to the film?
The dial is made with pure blue enamel, which Seiko says represents the blue outfit worn by Nausicaä. Its leaf-like hour and minute hands, white indexes and gold-toned seconds hand continue the visual references without turning the dial into a literal film illustration.
Seiko describes the textured case as resembling tools worn through use in the film. A blue crystal set into the crown refers to the eye of an Ohm, one of the story’s giant creatures. The case back is gold-plated and engraved with the line “Clothed in blue robes, descending onto a golden field,” which Seiko presents as a legend associated with the collaboration.

Movement and presentation
The watch uses Seiko Caliber 6R51, an automatic movement with a stated 72-hour power reserve. Seiko says it shares the performance attributes of the 6R55 but omits that movement’s date display. The SPB437’s no-date layout leaves the dial focused on its enamel surface and hands.
The leather strap is described by Seiko as coming from a tannery certified by the Leather Working Group. The special presentation box features an illustration from the film and includes a card bearing an original message in Japanese attributed to director Hayao Miyazaki. Seiko displays the message in English as “Let’s live without being bound by time”; that is the manufacturer’s English wording, not a verified transcription of the Japanese.
Film context behind the collaboration
Seiko dates the film’s release to 1984. Its collaboration page describes the story as taking place 1,000 years after the Seven Days of Fire destroyed modern civilization, in a world where the Sea of Decay is spreading. Nausicaä seeks a way for people and the natural world to coexist. This is the context Seiko gives for the watch’s imagery, rather than a full account of the film’s production or history.
