The Seiko Prospex SNJ029 and SNJ031 are closely matched solar ana-digi divers. Their clearest documented difference is the colorway: the SNJ029 pairs a tan chapter ring with a tan silicone strap, while the SNJ031 combines a black chapter ring with an olive-drab strap. Both share the H851 solar movement, a 200 m diver’s rating and the same substantial case dimensions, so the choice is chiefly about which look you prefer—and whether the listed size suits your wrist.
What “Arnie” means here
“Arnie” is the name used for these Prospex ana-digi diver variants. In this comparison, it identifies the watch style and family; it does not mean the SNJ029 and SNJ031 have different movements or core specifications. Seiko lists the same H851 solar movement and principal dimensions for both references.
SNJ029 vs. SNJ031: the colorway difference
Watchonista’s hands-on comparison describes the SNJ029 with a tan chapter ring and tan silicone strap, and the SNJ031 with a black chapter ring and olive-drab strap. Those visible color details are the main documented distinction between the two watches.

Shared movement and functions
Both watches use Seiko’s H851 solar movement. Seiko lists accuracy of ±15 seconds per month and the following functions:
- Power-save function
- Chronograph
- Daily alarm
- Full-auto calendar through December 31, 2100
- Battery-life warning
- LED illumination
These are manufacturer specifications, not results from independent performance testing.

Shared construction and size
Seiko specifies a stainless-steel case with hard coating and plastic components, a Hardlex crystal, a silicone band, a unidirectional bezel, a screw-down crown and a screw case back for both references. Each is rated for 200 m / 660 ft diver’s water resistance.
Seiko Watch Corporation lists a 47.8 mm case diameter, 50.5 mm lug-to-lug length and 14.4 mm thickness for each watch. The lug-to-lug measurement and thickness are particularly useful when considering how a large case may sit and feel, but the figures alone cannot establish fit on an individual wrist.

Straps, battery life and the screen-protector question
Replacement straps
Seiko lists 22 mm lug spacing and a silicone band on both models. That measurement is a starting point for looking at replacement straps, not proof that every 22 mm strap will fit correctly. Check a specific strap’s compatibility, length and buckle before buying.
Operating period
Seiko’s UK SNJ031 page gives an approximate operating period of six months on a full charge and approximately 22 months in power-save mode. Power-save figures differ across regional product pages, so those numbers apply to that UK listing rather than establishing a universal figure for every market.

Crystal and screen protectors
The cited specifications identify the crystal material as Hardlex but do not provide the crystal diameter or a verified screen-protector size. A forum owner’s question about finding a protector for the SNJ029 is an anecdotal request, not compatibility guidance; confirm dimensions with a seller or another reliable model-specific source before ordering.

Seiko’s specifications do not establish how either watch will fit a particular wrist. Try the case dimensions on in person where possible, or compare them with a watch you already find comfortable.
