Its appeal is the vivid blue treatment paired with the Samurai’s angular case and distinctive hands; its practical package is an automatic 4R35 with date display and a 200-meter water-resistance rating. For a used example, condition and verification matter more than its original launch price or limited-edition status.
What the SRPB09 is—and when it was released
Seiko released the Blue Lagoon Samurai SRPB09 alongside the Blue Lagoon Turtle SRPB11. In its January 9, 2017 launch-era coverage, Hodinkee reported that both were scheduled for February 2017 and limited to 6,000 pieces worldwide each. It listed a US launch price of $550 for the Samurai. Those are historical release details, not a current price guide or an indication of present availability.
The SRPB09 is therefore chiefly a used-market purchase today, though remaining stock may appear. The reference family is listed as SRPB09J1, SRPB09K1, and SRPB09K2 by WatchCharts; confirm the suffix on the individual watch and its documentation rather than assuming all listings identify the same variant.
Design: angular case, vivid blue, Samurai hands
The Samurai’s visual identity comes from its straight-edged, angular case, crown guards, and distinctive hand shapes—the details behind its nickname. Hodinkee’s launch coverage describes the blue finish as shifting in appearance with the light. That makes the SRPB09 a conspicuous diver rather than a restrained, neutral-colored tool watch.

- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT: Seiko 4R35 automatic movement includes manual winding, 23 jewels, date display, stop-second function, and approximately 41 hours of power reserve.
- 200M DIVER'S WATER RESISTANCE: Rated to 200 meters / 660 feet for diving, with a screw-down crown and screw case back.
- STAINLESS-STEEL CASE: 41.7mm stainless-steel case measures 12.3mm thick with a 49.5mm lug-to-lug distance and 20mm lug width.
- HARDLEX CRYSTAL: Durable Hardlex crystal protects the dial, while LumiBrite on the hands, indexes, and bezel improves low-light visibility.
- DIVER-READY DESIGN: Unidirectional rotating bezel and three-fold clasp with secure lock, push-button release, and extender provide practical functionality.
Hodinkee gives the case diameter as approximately 43.8 mm and thickness as 13 mm. WatchCharts rounds the diameter to 44 mm and also lists 13 mm thickness. The small diameter discrepancy is consistent with rounding; neither figure alone establishes how the watch will fit a particular wrist.
Movement, display, and water-resistance rating
The SRPB09 uses Seiko’s automatic 4R35 movement and shows the date. Hodinkee describes the 4R35 as hand-windable, hacking, and offering roughly 41 hours of power reserve. The launch-era coverage also specifies a screw-down crown, a unidirectional rotating bezel, and water resistance rated to 200 meters.

- SEIKO WATCH – Seiko SRPL15 Prospex wristwatch.
- COLLECTION – Prospex design.
- CASE DESIGN – Prospex Mare model format.
- MODEL REFERENCE – SRPL15 identifies the specific model.
- WATCH DIAMETER – 41.7 mm.
That 200-meter figure is the model’s stated specification, not a test result for a used watch. Seals can deteriorate, and a watch’s history is not established by its reference number or appearance. If you plan to swim or dive with an individual example, have a qualified watchmaker inspect it and verify its pressure resistance first.
Published specification pages do not agree on every detail. I Know Watches lists 24 jewels and a 40-hour reserve, while WatchCharts lists 23 jewels and 41 hours; Hodinkee also gives approximately 41 hours. Because of that disagreement, jewel count and exact reserve are best verified against documentation for the specific watch rather than repeated as universal facts.

SRPB09 Samurai vs. SRPB11 Turtle
The two Blue Lagoon editions share the blue theme and release context, but differ in case shape, display, and original package. The figures below are from Hodinkee’s 2017 launch-era coverage and describe the original releases.
| Feature | SRPB09 Blue Lagoon Samurai | SRPB11 Blue Lagoon Turtle |
|---|---|---|
| Case profile | Angular, straighter-sided profile | Rounder Turtle profile |
| Movement and display | 4R35; date | 4R36; day and date |
| Original strap or bracelet | Stainless steel bracelet | Bracelet plus an additional rubber strap |
| Reported US launch price | $550 in 2017 | $575 in 2017 |
Hodinkee observed that the Samurai wears smaller than the Turtle despite their broadly similar diameter. That is a comparative impression from its launch coverage, not a wrist-fit guarantee. The choice is mainly between the Samurai’s more angular design and date-only display and the Turtle’s rounder case and day-date display.

What to check before buying a used SRPB09
A limited run can make the model appealing to collectors, but the edition size does not establish the condition, authenticity, or value of a particular listing. WatchCharts’ model page shows a UK pre-owned estimate of £256 dated September 19, 2026. That is one dated, region-specific estimate, not a universal fair price or a guarantee of a completed sale.
- Confirm the reference: Check the case and paperwork for the exact suffix—SRPB09J1, SRPB09K1, or SRPB09K2—rather than relying only on a listing title.
- Inspect condition: Ask for clear photographs of the dial, case, bezel, and bracelet. Look for damage, heavy wear, or parts whose condition is not shown.
- Check bracelet completeness: Confirm how many links are included and whether the bracelet can be sized to you. A retailer listing from Jura Watches identifies the SRPB09K1 and mentions bracelet-sizing service; that does not establish current stock.
- Establish what comes with it: Ask whether box and papers are included. Do not assume they are present because the watch is described as limited edition.
- Review the seller and terms: Check seller history, the return policy, and whether any claimed service or water-resistance test is documented.
- Verify strap fit before buying an alternative: Compatibility depends on more than a generic width listing; confirm width, end shape, and clearance for the SRPB09 before ordering a replacement strap.
Verdict: who should consider the Blue Lagoon Samurai?
The SRPB09 is a strong candidate for someone who wants a visibly blue Seiko diver with the angular Samurai case, a date display, and a conventional automatic movement. The 2017 edition size and launch price provide useful historical context, but the buying decision should turn on the individual watch’s condition, completeness, seller terms, and—if water use is intended—verified pressure resistance. Its closest period counterpart, the SRPB11 Turtle, suits buyers who prefer the rounder case and day-date display.
