The Seiko Prospex Marinemaster 1965 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation is a contemporary mechanical diver inspired by Seiko’s 1965 62MAS. Its two mainline versions share the same published core specifications: the light-blue-dial SJE099 and black-dial SJE101. Seiko’s US SJE099 specifications and UK SJE101 specifications are the reference points for these figures. The listed dimensions can help you compare the watch with one you already wear, but they do not establish how it will sit on an individual wrist.
How does it relate to the 1965 62MAS?
Seiko describes the modern model as inspired by the 62MAS, its first diver’s watch, released in 1965 and the first diver’s watch made in Japan. The new watch is an interpretation rather than a specification-for-specification reissue.

In Seiko’s account, the horizontal dial texture evokes waves, the hands inherit elements of the earlier design, and the LumiBrite and luminous bezel pip support legibility. The brand also says the movement was developed specifically for the rigors of diving while retaining a slim profile. It describes the exhibition case back as a first for its diver’s watches and says the case structure was reconsidered to maintain water and shock resistance while keeping the watch thin. What does the 200 m diver’s rating mean?
Seiko specifies 200 m / 660 ft water resistance and labels it diver’s. That is the manufacturer’s rating; by itself, it does not establish whether the watch is suitable for a particular dive plan or replace dive-specific guidance. For use questions, consult the current Seiko manual and applicable diving guidance. - Choose by dial: the SJE099 is light blue; the SJE101 is black. The published core specifications are the same.
- Check the proportions: compare the listed 39.5 mm diameter, 47.2 mm lug-to-lug and 12.3 mm thickness with watches whose fit you know. Wrist fit cannot be determined from those numbers alone.
- Consider the movement details: both are listed with automatic/manual winding Caliber 6L37, approximately 45 hours of reserve and accuracy stated at +15 to −10 seconds per day.
