The Chanel J12 Calibre 3125 attracts collectors because it pairs the J12’s black ceramic-and-gold design with a movement supplied by Audemars Piguet. That unusual mechanical provenance and the watch’s discontinued status help explain its appeal, but neither establishes a current market price or guarantees appreciation.
What is the Chanel J12 Calibre 3125?
The reference most often identified with the J12 Calibre 3125 is H2918. Specialist watch publication Time+Tide describes it as a 42 mm black ceramic watch with yellow-gold details, an automatic Calibre 3125 and a sapphire display back. The caliber was supplied by Audemars Piguet and is based on the AP 3120 architecture. That connection—not simply the J12 name—is the model’s central technical distinction.
The reported H2918 dimensions are 42 mm in diameter, 11.2 mm thick and 48.5 mm lug-to-lug, with 50 m water resistance. Time+Tide also describes a ceramic bracelet and a gold-and-titanium clasp. These are reported specifications for this reference; check the watch’s own documentation when evaluating a particular example.
Why does the movement make it interesting to collectors?
The 3125 gives the watch a notable combination: a design associated with Chanel’s ceramic J12 line and movement architecture associated with Audemars Piguet. Time+Tide describes the caliber as part of the same family as movements used in AP’s Royal Oak watches. This provenance makes the H2918 stand apart from J12 models with other calibers.

Chanel’s general J12 materials describe the collection’s ceramic and manufacturing approach, and the company says every J12 is developed and assembled at its La Chaux-de-Fonds manufacture. That statement concerns the collection broadly; it does not independently authenticate an individual H2918 or establish its service history. Current J12 models use different calibers, so the 3125 should not be confused with the Calibre 12.1 or 12.2. See Chanel’s J12 collection information.
What do the auction results tell us about its value?
Published auction records provide historical evidence of transactions, not a reliable current price guide for every H2918. The available examples differ by reference, date, condition and sale circumstances.

The two results should not be averaged or converted into a single current estimate. A defensible range would require recent realized sales of the exact reference, with condition and completeness details available. The sources here do not establish a recent H2918 comparable-sales dataset.
Does discontinued status mean it is rare or a good investment?
Time+Tide describes the H2918 as discontinued, which can focus collector attention. But the available sources do not establish a production total or prove that Chanel issued it as a limited edition. Discontinued does not automatically mean scarce in the market, and scarcity alone does not demonstrate demand, resale performance or future appreciation.

Time+Tide reported in 2021 that the original retail price was over US$20,000 and that the watch was then being listed close to its original price. That is a historical editorial observation—not a current asking-price survey, a series of completed sales or a guarantee of value retention. It should not be treated as a 2026 valuation.
Why current J12 prices are not a useful direct comparison
Current J12 prices reflect different references, sizes, materials and movements. For example, Chanel’s US product page lists the white ceramic-and-gold J12 H10327 at US$32,050, with a 33 mm case and Calibre 12.2. What to check before buying an H2918
Because the available auction records do not support a precise current valuation, assess an individual watch on its own evidence. Ask for documentation and compare it with recent sales of the same reference rather than relying on a current retail J12 price or an asking price for a different model.
