The Seiko Prospex SLA069 is a 500-piece limited-edition diver that commemorates Japanese explorer Naomi Uemura’s ascents of five famous mountains. Its textured dial depicts Mont Blanc from the angle where Uemura began his climb, while the watch reinterprets Seiko’s 1970 diver design. Seiko says the model became available in May 2023.
What the SLA069 commemorates
Seiko’s account of Uemura’s mountaineering record begins with Mont Blanc, Kilimanjaro, and Aconcagua, which he had climbed by age 29. In 1970, he became the first Japanese mountaineer to summit Everest, then reached Denali three months later. Seiko describes Uemura as the first adventurer to reach the summits of all five mountains. How the design tells Uemura’s story
The Mont Blanc dial
The dial depicts Mont Blanc’s silhouette and surface from the angle at which Uemura began his ascent. Seiko says pressing and etching create depth in the mountain motif, evoking the contrast of rock and snow. The watch also has luminous hands, indices, and bezel; its date window sits between four and five o’clock.
Details drawn from the 1970 diver
The SLA069 reinterprets Seiko’s 1970 diver, whose flowing case included an extension to protect the crown at four o’clock. Seiko says the earlier watch proved reliable in extreme conditions when Uemura wore it in the Arctic. The SLA069 carries forward that design lineage, with polished case sides and a five-row bracelet. Seiko says the crown and bezel surface take their color cue from the blue shadows around Mont Blanc.

The case back is engraved with the Naomi Uemura Limited Edition name and an individual serial number. Seiko’s special page also displays Uemura’s words alongside the special box: “When one dream is realized, other dreams will follow.”

How it differs from the other Naomi Uemura reinterpretation
Seiko has also presented a separate reinterpretation for Uemura’s 80th birth anniversary. That model’s story centers on his 1974–1976 dog-sled journey from Greenland to Alaska; the SLA069 instead commemorates the five mountain ascents and uses a Mont Blanc dial. These are distinct commemorative editions. The available information here does not establish that their movements or full specifications are identical.

Release, pricing, and availability
Seiko says the SLA069 became available in May 2023 as a 500-piece limited edition. The official pages show different regional prices: USD 2,900 on Seiko’s U.S. page and EUR 3,000 on its European page. These are regional page values, not a universal price or evidence of current transaction prices. Because the edition’s release began in 2023 and production was limited, present-day stock is not established by Seiko’s release information. If considering a listing, confirm that it is the SLA069, and check the seller, territory, condition, serial details, and warranty. The specified 20 mm lug distance identifies the lug spacing, but does not by itself guarantee that every aftermarket strap will fit the case or bracelet end links.
