Seiko announced the range on June 5, 2023, with worldwide boutique and select-retailer availability planned from July 2023; “new” describes its launch, not a 2026 release. Seiko’s announcement and its current product-family page identify the SFJ001 as part of the 1/100 sec Solar Chronograph family.
What is the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SFJ001?
SFJ001 is the reference for Seiko’s Prospex Speedtimer 1/100 sec Solar Chronograph. Its defining feature is the solar Caliber 8A50: the stopwatch function measures elapsed time in 1/100-second increments. This is distinct from the more familiar V192-powered solar Speedtimer chronographs, which Seiko describes with a 60-minute chronograph, a 24-hour subdial and a power-reserve indicator shown at the touch of a button. Check the movement and reference when comparing models; the Speedtimer name covers different layouts and functions. Seiko’s product-family page
How to read the 1/100-second chronograph
The dial separates the stopwatch’s three units across dedicated counters. Seiko says this arrangement is intended to support legibility; that is the manufacturer’s design rationale, not an independent readability test.
- 2 o’clock: 1/100-second counter.
- 10 o’clock: 1/10-second counter.
- 12 o’clock: seconds counter.
The subdial at 6 o’clock serves two purposes. In normal timekeeping it displays hours and minutes. While the stopwatch is running, it becomes a 60-minute counter; Seiko’s release says the hour hand is hidden beneath the minute hand during stopwatch use. Seiko’s June 2023 announcement

- Premium Workmanship: Tactical frog vs75 watch with finest workmanship, striking outlook, screw down crown and fold over clasp with safety and fine tune function is a classic chronograph watch for collection. A must have for tactical frog watch and great choice for watch lovers
- Men's Watches: The striking chronograph watch has tremendous wrist presence. Wears exceptionally well for formal events thanks to its fashionable (yet modern) looks. Swap in a colored strap and you can rock this piece during casual and sporty occasions
A 1/100-second display means the stopwatch can register elapsed time to hundredths of a second. It does not, by itself, establish that every user can start, stop and read the watch with laboratory-level precision. Seiko’s materials describe the function and dial arrangement, not an independent accuracy test.
SFJ001 specifications published at launch
The figures below are from Seiko’s June 5, 2023 announcement. The release cautions that specifications and price information are as of its publication date and may change; consult the applicable regional listing for current details.

| Specification | SFJ001 |
|---|---|
| Movement | Solar Caliber 8A50 |

| Water resistance | 10 bar |
| Magnetic resistance | 4,800 A/m |
| Case diameter | 42.0 mm |
| Case thickness | 12.9 mm |
These dimensions give a useful starting point for judging fit, but diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears; the supplied announcement does not state lug-to-lug length. Seiko also describes specially designed pushers inspired by the handling of its 1960s stopwatches. That is a manufacturer design claim, rather than a hands-on assessment. Seiko’s announcement
SFJ001 versus the regular solar Speedtimer
