The Straum Opphav Damascus took the original Opphav’s rippled, nature-inspired dial and paired it with a patterned Damascus steel case. The 2022 edition also used an Elaboré-grade Sellita SW200-1 movement. Fratello reported a total run of 250 watches across four colors; Straum’s Opphav Damascus Black page currently shows the watch as sold out.
What changed on the Opphav Damascus?
The original Opphav’s defining feature is its stamped, rippled dial. For the Damascus version, Straum kept that dial concept and changed the case material, adding a second pattern to the watch’s visual design. Fratello’s July 2022 report described the release as a response to feedback from Straum’s community and a way to extend the brand’s use of Damascus steel beyond its limited Rastarkalv.
In modern watch cases, Damascus steel is made by pattern-welding layers of metal; etching reveals the contrasting pattern. This describes a modern manufacturing approach and alloys, not historic wootz steel. On the Opphav, the result is a patterned case set against the dial’s own texture: the material change is more than a different finish, but it does not replace the original dial design.

The grade change and date-position adjustment are functional distinctions; the patterned steel case is the clearest visible one. Whether those changes justify the launch premium depends on how much you value the Damascus material and the finishing pattern. The 2022 prices are historical launch figures, not current resale values.

What are the Opphav’s dimensions and core specifications?
The available full specification list is for the regular base Opphav, not a separate Damascus-specific spec sheet. Fratello’s April 2022 review lists:
- 41 mm case diameter
- 46.6 mm lug-to-lug
- 11.1 mm thickness
- 22 mm lug width
- Box sapphire crystal and semi-display caseback
- Sellita SW200-1 movement
- 100 m / 10 ATM water resistance
- Veg-tanned leather strap
Use these as base Opphav measurements rather than assuming every figure is confirmed for the Damascus case. The Damascus-specific details reported by Fratello are its steel case, Elaboré-grade movement and changed date-position behavior.

How much did the Damascus cost, and how many were made?
Fratello reported a 2022 launch price of €1,050 for the Opphav Damascus and a €221 premium over the standard Opphav. The Damascus collection was limited to 250 pieces across four colors—not 250 pieces per color. Those figures describe the launch, not today’s second-hand market; no current resale value is established here.
Is the Straum Opphav Damascus still available?
Straum’s official Opphav Damascus Black product page shows the watch as sold out and offers a notification option. That is the status shown on the page accessed on October 8, 2026, and can change. It does not establish availability for every dial color or elsewhere, and the reviewed sources do not confirm current secondary-market stock.

Which strap fits the Opphav Damascus?
Straum’s Opphav black leather strap page says the strap is designed for the Opphav, Opphav Damascus and Rastarkalv, and is not compatible with Jan Mayen. Its dedicated design has inset lug cuts, while Fratello notes the Opphav strap’s distinctive flare at the lugs. A generic 22 mm strap is therefore a starting point for searching, not a guarantee that the end shape will fit or look right.

- Check that the seller explicitly confirms compatibility with the Opphav Damascus, or compare the lug-end shape and attachment dimensions before ordering.
- Straum’s accessories collection listed five products when accessed; the green leather strap was marked sold out at that time. Inventory can change. See the Opphav accessories collection.
- Do not assume the regular Opphav bracelet fits the Damascus. Fratello’s 2022 report said there was no bracelet option for the Damascus at the time and did not present fitting the regular bracelet to its case as a sensible choice. Straum later published an Opphav-family bracelet update in 2023, but that does not establish fitment or stock for this specific version.
