Seiko listed it as available in January 2022; whether one can still be bought depends on the market and the individual seller.
What is the Seiko SLA055J1?
Seiko positions the SLA055 as a modern reinterpretation of its 1968 diver, within the Save the Ocean series. The model’s blue dial uses a pattern and gradient that Seiko says evoke Antarctic ice and polar waters. The “J1” reference identifies the specific model designation used on Seiko’s regional product pages.

The series has a conservation connection, but Seiko does not publish a quantified environmental outcome for this watch. The company says the series supports several marine-conservation initiatives and describes a contribution to the National Institution of Polar Research. It also says the watch was donated to the 63rd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition. Seiko states: “The watch will be worn by members of the 63rd Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition’s mission to Antarctica.”
How many SLA055J1 watches were made?
Seiko states that the SLA055 limited edition comprises 1,300 pieces and was available in January 2022. Seiko says “Limited Edition” and the individual serial number are inscribed on the screw case back. The edition count describes the announced production run, not how many remain unsold.

Caliber 8L35
Seiko says the 8L35 was developed for diver’s watches and is hand-assembled at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan. The Singapore boutique listing gives an approximately 50-hour power reserve; that figure is the retailer’s stated specification.
Ever-Brilliant Steel
The case, bezel and crown use Seiko’s Ever-Brilliant Steel. Seiko says the material’s PREN value is 1.7 times that of the steel grade used in most high-end watches. This is the manufacturer’s stated comparison, not an independent test result. Seiko also notes that the crown sits in a separate case component, a design intended to make replacement easier.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the Seiko SLA055J1 still available?
Availability is not established globally. The Seiko Boutique Singapore listing showed the watch out of stock when accessed in 2026; that is a regional snapshot, not proof that it is unavailable everywhere. Seiko’s product information dates the model’s availability to January 2022, but does not establish current inventory or a current market-wide price.
If you are considering a listing, confirm the exact SLA055J1 reference, seller, condition, box and papers, and which straps are included. Strap details are not uniform across the available descriptions: the Singapore listing specifies silicone plus an additional nylon strap, while Seiko’s manufacturer page describes a Seichu-braided fabric strap. Check the package for the specific regional offer rather than assuming a strap configuration.
How does the SLA055 compare with the SLA057?
Seiko’s related model is the black-dial SLA057, also described as a 1968 Diver’s Modern Re-interpretation. Seiko lists the SLA057 as a 600-piece limited edition, compared with 1,300 pieces for the SLA055.
| Model | Dial | Announced edition size |
|---|---|---|
| SLA055 | Blue, Antarctic-inspired | 1,300 pieces |
| SLA057 | Black | 600 pieces |
Choose between them primarily by dial preference and the particular example available. Compare fit and wearing comfort, condition, price, and the exact strap package; the edition counts alone do not establish current resale value.
What is the Antarctic connection?
Seiko’s account connects the 1968 diver lineage to earlier Seiko dive watches used by members of the 8th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition in 1966. The SLA055’s expedition association is presented as a return to Antarctica through the 63rd expedition. That history helps explain both the polar dial design and the Save the Ocean framing, without establishing a specific conservation impact for each watch sold.
