Why SPB237J1 is not a Sharp Edged GMT
Seiko’s Presage Sharp Edged Series page describes a different group of watches. It identifies the caliber as 6R64 and lists the references SPB217J1, SPB219J1, SPB221J1, and SPB225J1—not SPB237J1.
The 6R64 GMT description includes a GMT hand for dual-time indication and an independently adjustable hour hand that can be moved while the minute and seconds hands continue marking time. The page also describes a date sub-dial at six o’clock, a power-reserve indicator at nine o’clock, and a two-color dial ring to distinguish day and night. Those are Sharp Edged GMT collection details; they do not describe SPB237J1 or its 6R35 movement.

What “Sharp Edged” means on the Presage collection
Seiko describes the Sharp Edged Series as using an Asanoha, or hemp-leaf, pattern on the dial and a sharply angular case construction. Seiko Watch Corporation says the Japanese pattern has been used in design since the Heian period, over a thousand years ago. This design description applies to the Sharp Edged Series, not to the SPB237J1 diver.
What strap fits the SPB237J1?
Seiko lists a 20 mm distance between the lugs and includes an additional polyester strap. The lug measurement is a useful starting point when searching for a replacement strap, but it does not establish that every aftermarket 20 mm strap will fit or suit the watch. Check the individual strap’s fit and attachment requirements before buying.

Choosing the right Seiko reference
- Choose SPB237J1 if you mean the Prospex 1970 Heritage diver with a 6R35 movement, date, and listed 200 m diver’s water resistance.
- Check the reference again if you want the Presage Sharp Edged GMT. Seiko’s collection page lists SPB217J1, SPB219J1, SPB221J1, and SPB225J1 as its GMT references.
For a GMT model, consult the official specifications for that exact reference before comparing case dimensions, water resistance, bezel, dial, or strap; SPB237J1’s specifications cannot be assumed to apply to the other watches.
