Which one should you choose?
Choose the Seiko SSC813 if you want solar power and timing
Its solar Caliber V192 powers a chronograph that measures elapsed time up to 60 minutes. It also has a 24-hour subdial and a power-reserve indicator. Choose it if stopwatch capability is useful to you, or if solar power better matches how you want to own and use a watch. Solar does not mean maintenance-free, but the movement type distinguishes it from the Citizen’s automatic mechanical movement.

Choose the Citizen NJ0150-56Z if you want an automatic
The Tsuyosa uses Citizen’s automatic Caliber 8210 and has a three-hand display with a date. Its hacking function stops the seconds hand when setting the time, and Citizen states a 42-hour power reserve. Choose it if you specifically want a mechanical watch and value the traditional interaction of an automatic movement over a chronograph.

How different are they on the wrist?
The listed case diameters are 39 mm for the Seiko and 40 mm for the Citizen. That one-millimeter difference alone cannot predict which will feel smaller or more comfortable. Case shape and thickness, bracelet articulation, and your wrist all affect fit; try both on if you can. Both official product pages specify sapphire crystal—Seiko describes curved sapphire glass—without establishing that either crystal is scratch-proof.
What should you know about water resistance?
Citizen lists the NJ0150-56Z as WR50/5Bar/166ft and describes use for swimming in still water. The reviewed Seiko collection page does not state a comparable water-resistance figure for the SSC813, so these sources do not support a numerical head-to-head comparison. Check the exact model specification and its manual before deciding whether either watch is suitable for a particular water activity.

Do variant, price and warranty details change by market?
Yes. The US Citizen listing is for the yellow NJ0150-56Z and showed a $396 sale price against a $495 list price, along with a US 5-year limited warranty, when accessed in 2026. Those are regional retail terms, not guaranteed current prices or global warranty terms. Citizen’s Japanese page for the different NJ0150-56W reference describes a three-year international warranty and a domestic registration route to five years: Citizen Japan’s NJ0150-56W product page. Check the precise suffix, dial, availability and warranty for the market where you plan to buy.

Bottom line for a first watch
If your priority is an easy-to-live-with solar chronograph, the Seiko Speedtimer SSC813 is the more direct fit. If you want an automatic mechanical watch with a date and a steel-bracelet design, the Citizen Tsuyosa NJ0150-56Z fits that preference. Neither specification set establishes which watch will be more accurate in all conditions, fit every wrist better or cost less to own over time. For a first automatic specifically, the Citizen is the choice between these two.
