What makes the Silberstein collaboration different?
This is a specific 2024 collaboration, not simply another name for SilMach’s earlier The Time Changer concept. Business Montres describes the Silberstein watch as a professional retrograde chronograph with flyback and rattrapante (split-seconds) functions, operated through a two-pusher interface. The official English user manual sets out how the chronograph is started and how its hands behave.
Alain Silberstein’s design role is central to the collaboration. Business Montres attributes to him the description of the watch as a highly legible, easy-to-use tool watch in both chronograph and time modes. That is the designer’s stated intent, rather than an independent assessment of legibility or performance.
How to use the chronograph
The manual describes a chronograph with a maximum duration of one hour. It is not a conventional mechanical chronograph: follow the watch’s documented button sequence rather than assuming familiar controls or hand behavior.

- Enter chronograph mode: quickly press the yellow button twice.
- Read elapsed time: in chronograph mode, the yellow hand indicates seconds and the red hand indicates minutes.
- Use the intermediate-time function: the manual describes flyback and split-seconds operation as freezing the displayed hand positions so an intermediate time can be read. After the button is released, the hands restore or resume measurement according to the selected function; consult the manual for the precise sequence for that operation.
The launch description also notes automatic correction for the time spent manipulating the controls. The manual is the best reference for the exact operation; the launch description alone does not specify a universal sequence for every use of the two functions.
What MEMS means here
MEMS stands for micro-electromechanical systems: miniature electromechanical components made using microfabrication techniques. SilMach calls its approach hybrid MEMS micromotor technology and lists watchmaking, medical devices and micromechanisms among its application areas on its PowerMEMS technology page. In this watch, the term describes the motor technology behind the hands; it does not by itself establish the watch’s accuracy, battery life or durability.

In a 2023 interview about the earlier The Time Changer, SilMach executive Pierre-François Louvigné said the micromotors he was discussing could save 50% in height and thickness compared with the motors he described, and explained their surface-mount assembly. That is an executive’s account of the technology in the earlier-model context—not an independent test or a verified specification for the Silberstein collaboration.
Edition and launch price
Business Montres reported two versions totaling 300 examples and a launch price of €1,890 in 2024. These are historical launch figures. Current stock, a current selling price and resale value are not established by the cited coverage.

Do not confuse it with the earlier The Time Changer
SilMach’s earlier concept watch and the Silberstein chronograph share a name and technology context, but their reported details are not interchangeable. The 2023 concept was reported as a limited edition of 1,088 watches. A separate 2024 report on an earlier model gave a 42 mm steel case, 50 m water resistance, sapphire crystal, leather strap, CR2320 battery and estimated autonomy exceeding ten years, along with a then-reported Paris retail price of €2,846. Those specifications and figures do not establish the Silberstein collaboration’s case, water resistance, battery, autonomy or current price.

What the available evidence does—and does not—show
The manual provides operating instructions and a one-hour maximum duration, while launch coverage supplies the collaboration’s reported edition and price. The reviewed sources do not establish an independently measured accuracy figure, independent laboratory performance results, current service costs, or current availability. Earlier-model claims such as ±0.5 seconds per day and battery life exceeding ten years should not be transferred to this collaboration.

For a comparison with another chronograph, the documented points are the complication set, control layout, one-hour maximum duration, and the distinction between SilMach’s technology description and independently tested performance. Current asking price, service arrangements and resale value require model-specific information not established in these sources.
